More About Bipolar, Natural Herbs & Vitamins

Hi,

The other day I sent out information on
my material titled:

“My Findings: Vitamins, Herbs, and Alternative
Therapies for Treating Bipolar Disorder.”

At:

http://www.bipolarcentral.com/alternativetherapiessale/

I had a lot of people who wrote me how happy they
were that I have information in this area. At the same
time, however, there were a bunch of people that
said that I was a supplement hater and just pushed
medications.

I am not a hater of supplements. I am a realist.

I sent out a message the other day about natural
therapies, vitamins and herbs for bipolar disorder.
Some people were telling me that I am a
hater of supplements. I am not.

I personally take a lot of supplements. My mom
does, too. But what I was saying is that you
have to be very careful about them.

I even body build non-competitively, which
requires taking lots of natural supplements.
And I have lots of friends who take natural
supplements.

You have to be really careful with natural
remedies for bipolar disorder, though.
They may not go well with the other
medications you’re taking for the
disorder. You may have drug
interactions that you can’t anticipate.

That’s why before you take anything,
even natural supplements, you MUST
check with your doctor first, especially
if you have bipolar disorder.

Another thing is, don’t fall for the ads
for natural herbs, supplements, and
supposed “cures,” especially when
they’re advertising for “cures” for
bipolar disorder. There is still
no cure for bipolar disorder.
Remember that.

Again, I’m not saying that I’m
against natural things that you can
take to make you feel better. I’m
just saying to be careful.

You would be surprised how many
natural things you can take that you
would never think are natural.

For example, everyone knows that
fish is good for you as a food. But
did you know that fish OIL is even
better? You’d have to eat a lot of
fish to get the amount of fish oil
you need to be of benefit to you,
however, so that’s why there are
pills you can take.

You can find Omega-3 Fish Oil
in any health food store or on
the Internet. Fish oil is good to
reduce the risk of heart disease.

Coconut Oil is natural, too, and
is good for cooking with. It’s
cholesterol-free, and healthy for
you as well, because it’s good for your
metabolism.

Hemp is something that most
people don’t know about, but is a
very good herb for you because it
gives you an antioxidant boost.

Shocking truth about Caffeine and Bipolar Disorder

Hi,

How’s it going?

I hope you are doing well.

I just arrived in San Fran yesterday.

I have a whole bunch of stuff to do
up here.

I am really, really tired from all
this traveling. Plus I have had to carry
so much food and supplements for my
“eating plan.” If you have bipolar disorder
and think taking your medication is a pain
imagine having to bring a box of food, a blender,
liquids, pills and all this special food. It’s
a major pain.

Actually I was thinking on the plane today
when someone said, “I need some tea, I need
caffeine to give me energy.” Then I was thinking
about bipolar disorder and caffeine and how
people don’t know some key things.

Did you know that caffeine is a DRUG?

IMPORTANT NOTE

I am NOT a doctor, therapist, lawyer or
other kind of professional. I am NOT offering
medical or legal advice in anything I say
or write.

And that the stimulant effect of it can stay
in your system for up to 12 hours (but that
we can build up a tolerance to it)?

Now, by caffeine I don’t just mean coffee.
Caffeine is also in soda, chocolate (I know
you didn’t want to hear that) and, you
might be surprised about this, tea! Yeah,
tea has as much caffeine as coffee!

I told you that last part because so many
people drink iced tea, especially in the
summer months, and I think you should
know that.

I think it’s important that you know this
about caffeine especially because being
the supporter of a loved one with bipolar
disorder, caffeine can disrupt their usual
mood, and might have something to do
with their sleep patterns, which can lead
to a manic episode.

Caffeine can also interfere with their
medications. Especially at night.

As little as 250 mg of caffeine a day is
enough to cause insomnia and nervous-
ness, which will activate the stress
response, and possibly trigger an episode
in your loved one.

I talk about responses to stress a lot in
my courses/systems:

Too much caffeine makes other disorders
worse, as well.

This is what I’ve found out in my research:
Too much caffeine can also make you
urinate more, which makes us lose
magnesium and other needed minerals
in our bodies.

It also blocks the brain’s natural tranquilizer,
Andosine.

Here’s how to reduce caffeine intake:
Drink only decaffeinated coffee
Stop drinking it at all
Decrease the amount of caffeine you drink
Mix ½ regular coffee with ½ decaf in your blend
Replace coffee with juice or water

Hey I have to run. Tomorrow is the bipolar
news. I’ll catch you later.

Dave

Urgent Notice About Bipolar Disorder And Herbs, Vitamins, Natural Remedies

Hey,

If you’ve been looking into natural herbs,
vitamins, and/or alternative therapies for
bipolar disorder, then you must know something
important. Very important.

Many people are looking into things that are really
dangerous. Very dangerous.

When I first found out my mom had bipolar disorder
I was looking into the same thing. Over several
years I spent a ton of time AND money to find
out if there were things that can or did work.

I was shocked that so much stuff being promoted
out there was TOTAL garbage. I mean TOTAL garbage.

My mom’s doctor helped me figure out what was
good and what was bad. I think most people are
way off track when it comes to bipolar disorder
and natural “stuff.” I say stuff because it
covers you know vitamins, herbs, natural complementary
remedies, etc. There is a lot of “stuff” out there.

I will tell you this. There is NO one magic bullet
for bipolar disorder. Do NOT fall for the ads you
may find on the internet. Also, please run ANYTHING
past a qualified doctor before you use it.

My mom runs EVERYTHING single thing past her
doctor and she approves it. She NEVER ever does this
on her own.

I have just put together some information I think
you will find very interesting.

To find out what I discovered about herbs, vitamins
and natural remedies, please visit:

Learning to Laugh More With Bipolar Disorder

Hi,

How’s it going?

Well today I am flying from San Diego
to head up to San Francisco.

I have several people I have to meet
up there.

I have to get ready right now. However,
before I take off…

Let me ask you, when was the last
time you laughed?

I mean downright belly laughed?

I was watching this commercial the
other night, and I swear I laughed till
there were tears in my eyes!

The commercial showed these different
people giving verbal commands to
things, but they didn’t work.

Like one man said, “Close blinds,” but
The blinds didn’t close, and the man was
standing in the window naked, looked
up, and his neighbor was staring right
at him!

The most hilarious one was this
woman with a to-go cup of coffee
in her one hand and a briefcase in her
other hand, walking up to a glass door
of a building, and she says, “Open
door,” and the door doesn’t open, and
she walks right into the door, and the
coffee goes everywhere, all over the
glass! I’m telling you, this was
hilarious! I just couldn’t stop laughing!

So, I’m asking you, when was the last
time YOU laughed like that?

I go to so many bipolar support group
meetings, and I get so many negative
or complaining emails that I know that
this is true – too many people with
bipolar disorder and their supporters
stop laughing once the diagnosis is
made.

I mean it! It’s like the disorder
steals all the joy they have, like
pulling the rug right out from
under someone.

Now, does that seem fair? I
don’t think so.

But I see it this way. Having a
sense of humor is a choice. It
kind of goes along with being
a positive or being a negative
person.

I’ve heard from some people
who have bipolar disorder and
their supporters who paint the
picture that their lives are so
dark and gloomy that it’s more
like they’ve got cancer than
just bipolar disorder!

Then I’ve heard from some
people who tell me they’ve
learned to manage the disorder
so well that they’ve gotten to
the point of success (stability)
and actually have a pretty
happy life!

And guess what the difference
is? At least for some people,
they’ve been able to put the
joy (the joy of life) back into
their lives.

In my courses/systems, I teach
about enjoying life, about having
a positive attitude, about positive
affirmations, and taking advantage
of the good times between episodes:

SUPPORTING A CHILD/TEEN WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.bipolarparenting.com

HAVE BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.survivebipolar.net

Let me tell you this: You NEED
to laugh as much as you can in this
life! Even experts will tell you that
people who laugh more live longer.

People who only see the doom and
gloom side of bipolar disorder are
like a self-fulfilling prophecy –
they go through more depressive
episodes than those who have
learned to have a more positive
attitude.

Now, this isn’t medical advice,
for sure, but I bet if you did learn
to laugh more, you really would
have less episodes.

What do you think?

Well I have to head off to the airport.

I’ll talk to you tomorrow.

Your Friend,

Dave

Achieving Dreams – Setting Goals With Bipolar Disorder

Hi,

How’s it going? I hope you are
doing well.

I have a super busy day so I have
to get going. Before I do…

Let me ask you something:

When you were little, what did you
want to be when you grew up?

An artist? A writer? A teacher?
A musician? A ballerina? The
President?

Whatever you wanted to be, I bet
it didn’t include bipolar disorder,
did it?

So what did happen to your
dreams? I mean, maybe it wasn’t
the bipolar disorder that knocked
your dreams to the side – maybe it
happened before the diagnosis?

What happens to our dreams between
childhood and adulthood?

Most likely there was some adult
(parents, teacher) who told you that
your dream wasn’t realistic. Some
dreams (doctor, lawyer) maybe are
realistic, but ballerina/president?
No.

We give up our childhood dreams to
Become responsible adults. We
graduate from school, grow up,
get a (real) job, get married, buy a
house, raise children…and before you
know it, we’re too old to follow our
childhood dreams even if we wanted
to.

Or is it?

Maybe too late (or unrealistic) for
childhood dreams, but still possible
for adult dreams. And yes, you can
still have them despite bipolar disorder.
You just might have to be a little more
creative.

What if we were to call them goals
instead of dreams?

Like, “I’ve always wanted to cruise the
Mediterranean…”

Or, “I’d like to visit Europe someday…”

Or, “I’d like to go back to college and
finish my degree…”

Or, “I’d like to finally write that book…”

Or, “I’d love to lose those extra 50
pounds…”

Or, “I’d like to learn ballroom dancing…”

You get the picture.

The point is, these are all attainable
goals.

And I’m sure when put this way, you
can think of a few yourself.

In my courses/systems, I teach it this
way, too. I don’t talk about dreams.
I talk about goals. About setting
realistic goals, how to do it, and
setting long-term and short-term
goals:

SUPPORTING AN ADULT WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.bipolarsupporter.com/report11

SUPPORTING A CHILD/TEEN WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.bipolarparenting.com

HAVE BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.survivebipolar.net

Perhaps the reason you haven’t
pursued your dream is because it’s
too big.

But if you put your dream into terms
of long- and short-term goals instead,
you can turn it into manageable, bite-
sized pieces.

Here’s what I mean:

Like the example of going back to
college for that degree that you want.
That would be your long-term goal.
But the short-term goals would be to
think of it in terms of semesters, or
even courses.

Writing a book could be a long-term
goal, with writing chapters as the
short-term goals.

Losing 50 pounds as a long-term goal
could be broken down into 10-pound
short-term goals.

See what I mean?

So what does all this have to do with
bipolar disorder?

The fact that you can still attain your
dreams even with the disorder if you
break it down into setting goals,
because with bipolar disorder, the
setting of goals is something that
is attainable, because you have room
for flexibility. You can work around
mood swings and episodes.

Understandably, some of your goals
might be limited by bipolar
disorder. For example, making plans
to travel is one of the things that
people write to me all the time about,
because it’s difficult to do when you’re
dealing with bipolar disorder.

I get questions like, “What if we’re going
on a trip and my loved one goes into an
episode?”

Or, “How can I keep my loved one from
going into an episode when we’re
traveling?”

I’ve gone into these answers in-depth in
my articles, website, and courses, but
I’ll just tell you briefly here:

It can be done, but it takes a lot of
planning, and you need to make sure
that your loved one is STABLE.
Stability is crucial in avoiding bipolar
episodes when you’re traveling.

You also need to plan for every
eventuality. You need to have
safety plans in place, just like you
should when you’re home. And
make sure you have plenty of
back-up medication.

The point is, though, you can still,
for example, fulfill your dream of
visiting Europe – you just have to
plan for it (set it as a long-term
goal).

I know a woman who has been
successful at setting goals and
achieving her dreams. Her secret
is that she does the hardest part first –
that way she gets it out of the way.

What about you? Have you found
success at fulfilling your dreams or
attaining your goals?

If so, we’d all love to hear
about how you did it!

I have to get ready to head off to a
meeting. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.

Your Friend,

Dave

No socks, disaster for me, 10 Rules for Bipolar Disorder and Emotional Health

Hi,

What’s going on?

I have a really important bipolar rules I am
going to share with you.

Before I do…

What a trip it’s been in California.

Listen to this.

Okay first, I forgot to pack dress socks.
Can you believe that? It’s so annoying.

I was super mad about it. I don’t have
a car and my friend wasn’t around. I was in
the hotel in the morning and I discovered
this.

I randomly decided to call someone who
has actually a whole bunch of disorders.
This person is super high functioning.

I was going on and going about how
I was super mad. The person listened
and said, “Hey Dave, we really should
go over the stuff and anyway, is
not having any socks the end of the
world? It could be worse.”

I was like, “Hey, you’re right.”

Then the person was like, “hey,
why the heck would people be looking
at your feet anyway.”

I was like, “Hey, you’re right. Only
like a weirdo looks at people’s feet”
LOL

Okay so in my hotel. Which is suppose
to be a new one. I almost lost my arm
in the elevator trying to hold the door.

My key didn’t work to use the elevator
multiple times. My key didn’t work
to open my door many times.

The water to take a shower was cold
yesterday. FREEZING cold. I started
to put soap on me and then it went
cold. I was stuck. I had half my
body with soap and the other half with
no soap. I couldn’t call anyway.

I just had to deal with a freezing
cold shower which was total shock.

I can’t believe the hotel that was
suppose to be new had all these problems.

Oh, and I forgot my lap top charger
at home as well. I ordered a new one
that was suppose to be sent one day.
Well they screwed up and sent it 4 day.

Geeze. It’s been a pain of a trip.

Oh I actually met with one of my subscribers
from San Diego California. That was really
cool. We had a fun.

Okay enough with the stories let’s get to
the topic at hand today.

Today I want to talk about the

10 Rules for Emotional Health

I know, I hate rules too, but I think
this list is really important for your
emotional health, whether you are
the one with bipolar disorder or the
supporter.

1. Take care of yourself.
If you are a survivor, you have
to take care of yourself in order
to manage your disorder. Get
the right amount of sleep, eat
a healthy diet, and exercise,
are just a few examples. Same
goes for you supporters. You
can’t be any good to someone
else if you aren’t good to
yourself first.

2. Focus on the positive instead
of the negative.
Survivors, if you stay negative,
you will stay sick. Supporters,
if you stay negative, you will be
no good to your loved one, and
you will be no good to yourself.
You need to be a more positive
person, in order to stay emotionally
healthy. You need to take every
negative thought and turn it into
a positive one.

3. Let go of the past.
Yes, I know this is easier said than
done. Supporters, I know you’re
probably saying to me, “But you
don’t know what he/she has done
to me!” But remember, I am a
supporter, too! There’s plenty
of hurt and other negative feelings
I went through with my mother.
I just had to learn to let go of it,
or I would still be suffering from
those horrible memories, and
still be lost in the past, instead of
living a good present like I am.
I had to make a decision to
forgive my mother, as you need
to make a decision to forgive your
loved one now. If you don’t, you
will keep that resentment, and
both of you will suffer.

4. Be respectful and responsible.
This is more for survivors. You need
to own up to what you’ve done and
said in your episodes, even if you
don’t remember. Your loved one
has remembered everything you’ve
said and done, and is probably
still feeling hurt and resentful
about it, so you have to be
respectful and responsible and
do the right thing, and make up
to them for it.

5. Have an attitude of gratitude.
Supporters, living in the world of
bipolar disorder can get to you
sometimes – you can get to feeling
like it’s all that’s in your life. But
it doesn’t have to be. Trade all
the negatives of the disorder and
what it has done to your loved one
and your lives, and develop an
attitude of gratitude instead. Be
grateful for every day that your
loved one goes without an episode
and make the most of those days.
Be grateful for the smaller things
as well.

In my courses/systems, I talk about having
A positive attitude and how just changing
yourself from a negative person to a positive
person can change your recovery as well as
your life:

SUPPORTING AN ADULT WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?

SUPPORTING A CHILD/TEEN WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.bipolarparenting.com

HAVE BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.survivebipolar.net

6. Develop one or two friendships outside
the one you have with your loved one.
This goes for both of you. Go to a support
group meeting. Meet new people. Get
out from the bipolar disorder that tends
to overwhelm your life and isolate you.
You need to have other relationships
outside of just your own. You need to
learn to talk about other things besides
bipolar disorder.

7. Have some fun!
People who don’t have fun in their lives,
especially people who have bipolar
disorder, tend to become more depressed.
This doesn’t have to be expensive, but
just something that keeps your spirits
high. I know a couple who have “Date
Night” every Friday night, and sometimes
all they do is go to the local mall and
have a cheap dinner at the food court
and watch the people! To them, this is
fun. Other times, they just rent a
movie, put covers on the floor,
pop some popcorn, and snuggle
together to watch the movie. And
both of them have bipolar disorder,
by the way!

8. Remove yourself from hurtful or
damaging (negative) situations.
For survivors, there are many situations
that are negative, stressful, over-
exciting/stimulating, and can trigger
an episode for you. These are
situations that you need to avoid.
If you find yourself in one of these
situations, you need to get out of
them right away.

9. Accept that life is all about choices.
Some choices are good, and some are
bad. But they are YOUR choices. You
need to learn to make good choices.
The more good choices you make, the
more emotionally healthy you will be,
and the happier in the long run. If
you make bad choices, there will
always be consequences to pay,
and you don’t want that.

10. The future is up to YOU!
Have a plan for the future.
Unfortunately, no one knows when
your next episode will occur,
although I have tried to teach you
how to avoid episodes, how to
watch for triggers, and how to
manage your bipolar disorder.
However, I have also told you
that you most likely will have
another episode. That’s why
I always tell you to have a safety
plan in place for the next episode.
you can make short term plans
and long term plans for your
future, and you should make
plans just for yourselves that
have nothing to do with bipolar
disorder. Just make some kind
of plans to have a healthy,
happy, successful future – the
future is up to YOU!

It’s OK to be OK with Bipolar Disorder

Hi,

You know, sometimes the simplest
things are the best things – but are the
things that could pass us by if we don’t
catch them when they’re there.

Here’s what I’m talking about:

Just a catchphrase I heard someone
say the other day:

IT’S OK TO BE OK.

See? Nothing big. Nothing earth-
shattering.

But, you may be wondering, what
does this have to do with bipolar
disorder?

Well, you know me… everything I
see, everything I hear…everything
I come across has something to do
with bipolar disorder! I just think
about it all the time.

But I do think there’s a lesson to be
learned from this simple phrase,
and yes, I think it can be applied to
bipolar disorder.

Here’s the thing. I get letters from
people all the time, describing how
the disorder has taken over their
lives, how they live and breathe
bipolar disorder, how they can’t do
anything about it, how they can’t
even make plans to do anything
because the disorder is always in
the way, how everything has changed
in their lives because of the bipolar
disorder. And on and on…

Now I’m not doubting their word,
believe me. Too many people saying
the same thing. So don’t think I’m
saying that what they’re saying isn’t
true. I’m not saying that (so don’t
send me any hate mail, please).

But what I am simply saying is
that IT IS OK TO BE OK.

What this means that not everything
has to be a crisis. Not everything is
an emergency. I know it might feel
that way sometimes. Maybe it feels
that way all the time to you. You
might write me and yell at me and
tell me that living with your loved
one really is like going from crisis
to crisis all the time, I don’t know.
All I’m saying is that it doesn’t
have to be.

If you read my courses/systems,
you/your loved one can learn how
to manage bipolar disorder to the
point that there is stability, so that
there are longer periods of time
between episodes:

Really, it’s true! Michele, who works
for me, her mom went 12 years without
an episode. And I even heard of a man
who went 20 years without an
episode! Now I’m not necessarily
saying that your loved one can go
that long, because I’m not a doctor
or therapist. But, with treatment,
I know people can go long periods
of time between episodes.

The thing is, you shouldn’t have to
walk around on eggshells all the
time waiting for your loved one to
go into their next episode. That’s
no way to live. And if you tell me
that’s the way it is in your home,
I’ll tell you that you need to make
some changes, then. Because you
don’t have to live that way.

If you and your loved one work
together to manage the bipolar
disorder like I teach in my courses,
you don’t have to live “waiting for
the other shoe to fall.” What kind
of life is that? Always being so
negative…just waiting for the next
mood swing? You can’t plan for
anything…you can’t even enjoy
one day’s peace…the bipolar
disorder has totally taken over
your lives, and nothing is “normal.”

How can you live like that?

The point is that you DON’T
have to live like that. It is your
choice. You can learn to manage the
disorder, or you can let the disorder
manage you.

Remember the point I made in the
beginning:

IT’S OK TO BE OK

It’s so simple. It’s ok to be ok.
You/your loved one don’t have
to “be bipolar” all the time.
You don’t have to center yourself
on the disorder. You can have a
life outside of the disorder and just
BE OK in between mood swings.
Yes, there are times between
episodes. And during those times
you/they are OK. And it’s just OK
to be OK.

There is still life outside of bipolar
disorder.

Dave

Bipolar Survivor and Bipolar Supporter Go Together

=>PLEASE FORWARD TO FRIENDS, FAMILY AND LOVED ONES <= Hi, I was thinking about something that
kind of made me laugh, but that could
kind of be serious, too, I suppose, if you
looked at it that way.

But the important thing is that it could
have something to do with bipolar disorder
too. (and I do know that sometimes I do
come up with the weirdest thoughts on
bipolar disorder, don’t I?)

Anyway, I was thinking about how some
things just go together.

Like on the old show “Married with Children,”
the opening song said, “Love and marriage…
go together like a horse and carriage…”

So I started thinking about other things
that go together…

Like a bagel and cream cheese…

Like peanut butter and jelly…

Like french fries and ketchup…

Like meat and potatoes…

Like wine and cheese…

Like a baby and its mother…

Like a child and their cartoons…

Like an executive and his corner office…

Like an artist and their canvas…

Like an actor and their stage…

And…

Like a person with bipolar disorder
And their supporter.

See what I’m getting at? There are
just some things that go together
naturally.

In my courses/systems below, and
you’ll see how I go more into the
relationship between a bipolar survivor
and their supporter:

A bipolar survivor and their supporter
should go together just like the things I
talked about above. And the more
adversity (episodes) they go through
together, the stronger and closer they
should become.

A pair. Two are better than one,
because for one thing, then you aren’t
lonely any more. And you never have
to fight the battle against bipolar
disorder by yourself. And THAT is a
big deal, isn’t it?

Having someone by your side (if you
are a survivor) is the greatest feeling,
just knowing that you don’t have to fight
this fight by yourself.

If you are a supporter, then knowing
that you are the ONE person that your
loved one depends on to be there for
them, you must feel good about yourself
just knowing that you can do that for
another person – it must be the
greatest feeling!

Well, I have to go…

Dave
