Hi,

How’s it going.

Today I have something really simple
to tell you. Short and simple. I have
to make it quick. I have to volunteer
tonight. Hand out candy and go to a
party so I have lots to do today.

With that said, yesterday I was at two
business meetings and I thought of
something with bipolar disorder.

The second meeting was great but
the first one got way off track
and it’s what made me think of
this key bipolar success secret.

I thought of it when a person was
on the “hot seat” in our meeting.

That means that a business owner
sits on a chair facing the group
of us and tells his 3 biggest problems
in his/her business and we brainstorm
solutions.

So this guy was on the hot seat and
guess what? He could not come up with
his three problems. He basically
just kept saying, “business hasn’t
been well.” He complained about high
gas prices, the war, and a bad economy.

He never said specifically what problems
he was having.

It was really annoying actually because
he wound up wasting a lot of time.

After I heard this, I thought
of how so many people wind up complaining
about bipolar disorder but never clearly
identify what are the exact problems
they have and never focus on solutions.

When I was first helping my mom,
I made a complete list of exactly what
problems I was having. Here is an excerpt
from my notes:

-Figure out what she has
-Find a doctor to help
-Figure out how to help her prevent it
-Help her be able to handle it
-Help her get out of de.bt

and there were many other things
but you get the idea.

NOTE-I put “it” because at the time
I really didn’t know or understand
what my mom had. This is before
I had done a ton of research.

When you get my courses/systems:

SUPPORTING A CHILD/TEEN WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?

http://www.bipolarparenting.com

HAVE BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.survivebipolar.net

one thing that runs through it is the fact that you
have to be proactive and also you have
focus on solving problems not just complaining.

Many people just complain about bipolar
disorder and never come up with any solutions.

This is one of the biggest reasons that people
who do well with bipolar disorder don’t go to
or avoid support group meetings. Keep in mind
that I volunteer at three and have been for over
three years but I have noticed that many people
will not go because it turns into what one person
has said is a “complaint fest.”

I have to agree. It frustrates me that some
people just like to talk and complain and not
focus on solutions like the business owner
that I encountered yesterday.

I am sure there are many people on this list
that use to complain and then focused on finding
solutions and defining the exact problems they
had. These people wind up beating bipolar
and controlling it instead of it control them.

I am sure that you know people who always complain.
And if you offer them suggestions, they kind of
get mad. They just want to complain and never
want to fix the problem. I find it so true with
bipolar disorder. People love to complain
about it. They love to assume that whatever
the problems are, one is doomed and there
are no solutions. There are always solutions
to every “bipolar” problem. I have had
the most difficult problems and found
solutions.

With that said, I have to take off. Write me
some stories based on this email if you could.

Dave

Shocking trait of bipolar disorder finally revealed

Hi,

How’s it going?

I wanted to write you today about something
that’s rather interesting–a shocking
trait about bipolar disorder.

I have noticed now for many years that
there’s something really strange about
bipolar disorder. Well there are many
things but I find this one particular
thing most disturbing.

What is it?

It’s the fact that bipolar disorder episodes
wind up striking or occurring at the worst
possible times. The times that you are
least prepared. When you absolutely
don’t want an episode to occur.

I have some theories on this and
I will get to those in a second.

BUT, I want to remind everyone that
we have several holidays and events
coming up.

We have Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas,
New Years, and the New Year (I call this an
event as well).

You have to start to plan and think about
what you are going to do if your loved
one with bipolar disorder goes into an episode
or if you do.

During the next couple of months, many
people will have a difficult time coping
and dealing with bipolar disorder. Both
bipolar supporters and bipolar survivors.
This is a fact for the most part of bipolar
disorder.

The key is to be prepared and realize the
shocking trait of bipolar disorder that
is strikes at the worst possible times.

Here is some advice. Start to think of
what you will do if a bipolar disorder episode
occurs.

Things to think about:

How do you get a hold of the doctor/therapist
especially on a holiday.

What are you going to do if you are your loved
one with bipolar disorder is too manic or too
depressed for one of these holidays or events.

How are you going to handle other friends and
family members.

How are you going to handle the transition from
fun and holidays to the new year that is not
so fun and exciting (for many this leads to
depressive episodes).

What are you going to do if there is drinking
and you are there and you or your loved one
can’t drink.

How are you going to handle diet restrictions
for the new year.

What are you going to do about not having
money to spend on present if that’s the case

These are the kinds of questions you need
to ask and start thinking about. You have
to making a plan and can’t just hope for
the best.

I like to think about bipolar disorder
as like a person or “being” that inhabits someone
and it’s a slick person. It’s cunning. It works
hard to cause problems. It sits and waits
for the best time for it to strike. When
people’s guard is down. When people don’t want
to deal with it. When people’s resources
are low. It doesn’t strike when a person
is in front of a hospital or team of doctors
where it would be easily overcome, it strikes
when it has the greatest chance to create
the most problems.

Now some might read this and think I am
out of my mind and that it’s not a “person”
or “thing” and that if I think about it like
this I am crazy or that I have a mental illness.

When I do think about it this way it helps
me separate the bipolar disorder from my mom,
it helps me plan better and it becomes kind of
like a game–me versus the disorder. Who’s smarter.
Who will win. I am competitive so I take the challenge
seriously. I have taught this thinking to many people
and they find it helps them as well.

If you start to think of bipolar NOT your loved
one is the real problem and enemy so to speak
it becomes easier to deal with as well.

With that said, take some time today and figure
out a plan. Grab a blank sheet of paper and
start to brainstorm.

If you need help get one of my courses/systems
because I cover virtually every problem you will come
across.

I must say, for three years in a row
AFTER my mom’s big bipolar episode, I let
my guard down. I know this sounds dumb but
I thought my mom had “used up” her big
episodes and there wouldn’t be any more.

For three years my mom went from stable to
unstable in as little as 7 days and then
the system kicked in and she went back to being
stable. BUT, I must say I had to intervene
and if I didn’t, I am not sure if the system
would have done everything without my intervention.

BUT the good news is that I rebuilt all I learned
into my current courses/systems to prevent these
type of “doomsday scenarios” from happening
during holiday periods like we will
see over the next two months.

I know some people think I am negative or a major
downer but I just want to warn you so you don’t
get caught and then have to scramble and suffer
during the holidays and fun time.

I know that many people know exactly what I am
talking about. I would appreciate if you share a
story about bipolar and how it strikes at the
worst possible times.

On one last thing. Remember it’s the bipolar NOT
you or your loved one. There’s two separate things.
No one wants to have bipolar and many times what
is done is done because they can’t help it.

One final thought. I believe the reason why
it appears that bipolar always strikes during
the worst times is because bipolar episodes
are triggered many times by stress or events.
So during holidays or fun times that can push a
person into mania and then afterwards push a person
into depression. Fun events can in some cases fuel
bipolar episodes. And it’s during fun periods of
time you don’t want an episode so it winds up happening
during the time you want it least. Make sense? Hope so.

Well I have to run. I have a million things to
do. Catch you tomorrow.

Your Friend,

Dave

The biggest bipolar supporter secret

Hi,

How are you?

Boy, am I excited about today’s daily email
on bipolar disorder!

When you read it, you’ll see why.

Here’s an email that I got:

“Dear Dave,
I recently went on a cruise to the Bahamas
with my husband, and we were talking to another
couple we had just met, and I was telling the
woman about your website, and this man came
up to me from another table and apologized for
eavesdropping, but he said that he knew the
website I was talking about, and that 3 years ago
he found that website and got help for his son
from it.

He said that they took action because of
the information they got from the website, and
now his son is 20 years old, on medication, goes
to therapy, and is in college, and doing great!
He said it was all because he found bipolarcentral.com.
I just thought you should know
that people are being helped by your website.”

—————————————————-

Too often, I get emails that are from people
complaining, or being negative. But this
email is so encouraging to me, because it
tells me I’m doing my job, you know?

If this man’s son is doing so well now at 20
years old, that means he first found the
website when his son was only 17 years old!
And that he’s been reading and following the
website and reading my materials for 3
whole years now!

The point is, that he took action on my
materials, and look how good he is doing!
In all my materials, there is a section on
taking action in some way, shape, or form,
because if you only have the materials,
but don’t do anything about them, what
good are they?

I have three main courses/systems for helping
with bipolar disorder:

SUPPORTING AN ADULT WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?

http://www.bipolarsupporter.com/report11

SUPPORTING A CHILD/TEEN WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.bipolarparenting.com

HAVE BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.survivebipolar.net

If you take the information from the
courses, like this man obviously did for his
son, you can rise above the bipolar disorder
just like he did, and you can beat it! Then
you can have success, just like his son did,
at the time when he would have needed it
the most!

Imagine it – at 17 years old, when most
adolescents are struggling with who they are
and other self-esteem issues, wondering what
to do with their lives, at that in-between time
of their lives… and also at that time that the
DSM-IV (the psychiatric “Bible”) says that
people begin to be traditionally diagnosed
with bipolar disorder… this young man got
the help he needed from bipolarcentral.com
and his whole life changed!

Can you imagine what his life would have
been like if he hadn’t gotten that help at
that time of his life? Do you really think
that he would be in college right now? Do
you really think that his bipolar disorder
would be under control like it is? Do you
really believe that he would be as stable
as his father brags that he is?

The big “secret” that his father was
bragging about, and that I want you to
take away from all this is that this
father not only discovered the infor-
mation on the website, but that he
TOOK ACTION on the information
he discovered on the website.

You also have discovered much
information, since you have been
reading these emails and, hopefully,
been getting my courses as well,
which truly educate you all about
bipolar disorder. But it’s not about
whether you get the information or
not.

IT’S ALL ABOUT WHETHER YOU
TAKE ACTION ON THE INFORMATION
YOU RECEIVE OR NOT!

This father TOOK ACTION on the
information he received 3 years ago
from bipolarcentral.com. At a time when
there weren’t a whole lot of bells and
whistles – at a time when there weren’t
a whole lot of extras – at a time when
there was basically just the courses.

But what did he do? He TOOK ACTION
on what he learned in those courses, and
he got help for his son, so that his son is
SUCCESSFUL today because of the action
his father took 3 years ago!

I would encourage you to take a lesson
from this story, and from this father’s
actions.

Unfortunately with my family action
was not taken for decades. It really wasn’t
until I was determined to help my mom
control bipolar did things turn around.

I made a lot of mistakes but eventually
found my way. You have to take action
especially when you are a bipolar supporter
you can’t just sit around and hope your
loved one gets better on their own.

It won’t happen.

Well I have to run, see you tomorrow.

Dave

Shocking truth that fools people about bipolar disorder

Hi,

How’s it going?

Hope you had a good day yesterday.

Today I wanted to address something
I see over and over and over and over
again I see with bipolar disorder.

I have never really written about it
but now is the time.

It’s one of the absolutely positively worst
things about bipolar disorder and it’s
one of the most deadly traits.

Let me tell you why I thought of this
today. Well I saw some blog posts
and emails about my email yesterday
where I talked about natural health supplements
and natural “stuff” for bipolar disorder. I
warned people how most of it was total, and
I mean total, junk.

People were writing me and basically agreeing
with what I said but there were some people
saying that you could get off medications for
bipolar disorder and be okay.

NOTE-
I am NOT a doctor, therapist, insurance agent,
lawyer, or other kind of professional. I am
NOT offering medical advice rather my opinion.
If you see medical advice please stop reading
this.

One person wrote me that she just got
off her bipolar medications and was doing
great and it has been a few months.

Okay, well let me tell you something I have
found very interesting about folks with
bipolar disorder that get off their medication.

First a person gets off their medication and
“appears” to be doing well. Everything seems
okay. They are generally happy and you
the bipolar supporter may think, “wow
they are doing great” if you don’t know what
to look for and 99% of people don’t know
what to look for (for example, my dad still
to this day does not know what to look
for…know idea why).

Then slowly but surely over a few weeks to a
months, things start to turn. The person many
times will enter a manic episode. He/she will start
sleeping less, spending more mo.ney and doing
more things faster. Eventually his/her judgment
will be bad and they will start doing and saying
things that they never would do or say.

Then over time the person gets to a point where
they start to act “crazy” or very manic. At this
point the person reaches generally a place where
they can’t be stable again without going to the
hospital and they MUST be put on bipolar medications
again to be stable. Problem is, many times, they
are so far gone it takes so much to get them
to treatment.

The other problem is, when you get off medications for bipolar
disorder, sometimes whatever you were on that made
you stable will not work again. Doctors and researchers have
no idea why this happens but ask around and it does.

So then a doctor has to figure out a new bipolar
disorder medication or medications that will work
for you.

This could take a short time or a long time. Most
times, I have seen it take a long time especially
when a person is off bipolar medications for several
months.

All the while, the person can’t really work well, is
still saying and doing bad things and causing tremendous
havoc to those around them and destroying their live
and/or any progress they previously made.

Eventually if the person finds the right doctor
and sticks with him/her the right medication that
causes stability will be found. Unfortunately this
generally take up to or more than a year.

This process is how people wipe out YEARS of
their lives. It’s how people take 10 to 15 years,
NOT months to finally become stable. When you
get stable, take bipolar medications, get off
of them have to find new combinations, time goes
by fast when you do it let’s say 5 times. Some
people experiment and do this process 5 to 10 times
wasting large blocks of their lives.

The thing that is so darn deadly with bipolar
disorder is that at first,
when the person stops taking their medication, first
everyone thinks they are doing okay because in my mom’s
terms “their moving around doing a lot of stuff.” They
look happy and productive. To the untrained eye, it looks
like they are getting along great.

Then eventually the bipolar supporters know something is really
wrong but the person with the disorder thinks they are fine.

NOTE-

I have been on the phone with potential and I repeat
potential success stories that stopped taking medication
and they said the were fine. They were doing great!

When I spoke to them, they were talking super fast, rambling,
not making any sense at all, and when I spoke to their bipolar
supporters they said the people were totally out of control
but thinking they are fine.

The warning is. When you are stable do NOT stop taking
your medication because you could find yourself literally
out of your mind and thinking you are fine and okay
when you aren’t and you are hurting everyone around
you.

When you get my course/systems below:

SUPPORTING A CHILD/TEEN WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.bipolarparenting.com

HAVE BIPOLAR DISORDER?

http://www.survivebipolar.net

you will find many of the major success stories actually got
off medication at some point and did all kinds
of horrible things. Some tried to kill themselves
or others. Some were in jail. Many bankrupt. Most
have been married several times. One guy lost
his entire family. They refuse to ever speak to
him again even though now he is a big time success.
BUT, what he did when he was on and off medications
for years must have been so bad, they can’t forgive
him. I am not saying I agree with this just pointing
out the facts.

The common denominator of this grief and strife
is getting off bipolar medications.

For those that wrote or posted to me, who are off
bipolar medications without working with a doctor,
heed this warning.

And if you haven’t gone unstable yet, you will.

Let me ask you a few questions, for those out their,
that stopped taking their medication for bipolar disorder.

Do you like gambling with your life?

Do you know you could kill someone or kill yourself (check
the stats on this it’s 100% true. Don’t get mad at me,
I report the facts, check them)

Do you want to risk hurting those around you?

Can’t you work with your doctor with changes to the
treatment plan not “wing it” or do it on your own?

Do you realize that you could bankrupt yourself
and your loved ones around you.

You might think I am being harsh on a Sunday but
this stuff is DEAD SERIOUS. This isn’t like
a cold or something.

Everyone should really think about this email
and think about the seriousness of bipolar disorder
and go with proven success and get a great doctor,
work with him/her, go to a therapist and take
your medication as prescribed faithfully.

Don’t be a statistic on my bipolar weekly news.
Look back over my bipolar news I send out on
Fridays. Read the stories of people with bipolar
disorder that have done bad things. You will find
it was because they got off their bipolar
medications.

NOTE-Everyone who does something really crazy
with bipolar disorder never wanted to for the most
part. They did it OFF medication. Don’t be one
of them.

2 years ago a lady threaten to kill me on my list.
She also hurt someone physically and go into trouble. She went
to jail. She just got out. I don’t know why such a
short sentence. Who knows I am not a lawyer. Anyway,
she wrote me an email asking for my forgiveness
and that she would stay on her bipolar medications.

She told me she went “crazy” after several months
of being off her medications. Believe me I know,
I got the death threats from her.

Imagine waking up to someone who says their
going to kill you anyway they can? That’s what
she did to me when she was off her medications
for several months.

The good thing is, she promised to stay on her
medications. I do forgive her too.

Well I have to go.

Catch you tomorrow.

I know I am going to get hate mail from people
saying I push drugs on people and I am working
with “big drug” companies. I don’t care. If
I can just help one person on my list it’s worth
it.

Stopping medication is VERY serious. Don’t do
it.

Your Friend,

Dave

Bipolar Warning-Watch out for this?

Hi,

How are you? Well today is Saturday
and the weekend.

I am actually going to a Halloween
Party today so I have to make this
quick because I have a lot to do before
I go to the party.

Something happen yesterday that kind of
made me really mad.

I was talking to a friend of mine
who asked how the “bipolar stuff”
was going. I told him great.

Then he told me how he knows
some natural doctor and as soon
as he said this, I said, “oh
geeze, here we go”, that has
a natural treatment for bipolar
disorder.

My friend is a well intentioned
person and sincere.

He went on to tell me how basically
in order for my mom to do well (which
she is already but I think my friend
missed that), she needs to take
this “amazing supplement” so
she could be “okay”.

My friend says that his natural doctor
friend says that it works so great
and has “totally cured people.”.

Every time I hear this, I kind of want
to scream. The last time I heard this,
the person who was suppose to be cured
of bipolar disorder by meditating and
eating a kind of “tree bark” from
some kind of place in South America
was in a mega super episode and
incomprehensible for our interview.

The person who told me said it was because
he didn’t take enough “tree bark.” I argued it was
because the person got off his medication
that was working.

BE WARNED!

These days there are tons and tons of people
making all kinds of claims of natural products
to treat and manage bipolar disorder.

I’ve heard it all: tree bark, shark something
or another, magic berries, magic water,
something from volcanoes, special grass,
special mud, etc.

Then there are the natural people that don’t
endorse natural supplements but doing natural
things to total control bipolar. Things
like “getting in touch with yourself”,
paying a ton of money for a person to
“cleanse your soul”, weird kinds of meditation
that are not free but cost $5000, etc.

99% of what is presented to me in regards to
natural is a scam. I use to spend so much
time working to validate things brought to me.
When it comes to supplements however, I get
a ton of people sending me stuff in the mail
and writing me about this and that. Most of
them are like h.ome business programs.

One was actually found
to have NO and I repeat NO nutritional
qualities at all and was essentially
“colored water.”

These days anyone can start their own
nutritional company and sell anything
just about. Also, note that there are
many legitimate natural doctors that
are like real MDs but have other degrees.
BUT on the flip side, there are tons
and I mean tons of con artists out
there saying they are doctors but they
are really not or got a degree from like
a NON accredited mail order/internet scam operation.

IF you are looking into natural supplements
and bipolar disorder BEWARE.

I actually put together a guide on this
if you are interested, it’s called:
“My Findings: Vitamins, Herbs, and Alternative
Therapies for Treating Bipolar Disorder”
http://www.bipolarcentral.com/alternativetherapies/

You’d be shocked about the kind of nonsense
that I ran across. It really makes me super
mad when people try to make up natural things
to “cure” or take the place of bipolar medications.

Don’t get me wrong, my mom takes natural things
and also does natural things to work WITH her
bipolar medication. WITH. Please read that again
with her bipolar medications. They are complementary NOT
replacements. And she ALWAYS works with her
doctor. Also, my mom does natural exercises you
probably have never heard of at the advice of her
doctor but with her bipolar medications.

She doesn’t hide the fact she is taking it
from her doctor.

In my courses/systems, below:

SUPPORTING A CHILD/TEEN WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?

you hear many, and
I mean many, horror stories from people who
got off their medication and went and took
some weird supplement or went to do some
kind of strange meditation or weird
form of “natural” therapy and went into
super episodes and created doomsday scenarios
for their loved ones.

To sum up:

Do NOT ever make any treatment without
taking to a qualified doctor first

Don’t believe outrageous claims about
supplements or weird therapies for bipolar
disorder

And no I am not a supplement hater. I take
a ton of supplements because I body build
NON competitive. I do it as a hobby. If you
met me, you’d be amazed how many supplements
I take but I still never would make claims
about bipolar stability and supplements.
Well I have to run, catch you tomorrow.

Hi,

How are you?

Hope you are doing well. Today I am in the
library and their is this one guy talking
on his cell phone super loud. When these times
occur, I debate in my head to say something.

I wish cell phones were BANNED from ALL libraries.
It’s so annoying. Anyway, I went up to the
reference librarian to complain and see if
she could shut the guy up.

I had a book about bipolar disorder in my hand and
she asked me, “Do you have bipolar disorder?” I said,
“No I don’t but I have an organization that helps
people dealing with it–both supporters and
survivors.”

I came to find out this woman had a sister with
bipolar disorder. She said it was a nightmare.
She had for like 10 years her sister hadn’t
done much, did drugs, couldn’t hold a job and was
in and out of the hospital. She had no money
and was constantly in a “bad state.”

I asked lots of questions and finally she
said, “You know, psychiatrists are a total
joke, they have no idea what they are doing.
My sister is suppose to be with this new
one that is suppose to be so good and he
can’t get the medication right.”

I asked her how long she has been with him
she said 3 weeks. Then I asked (below next
to Woman> are her responses):

How many times has she seen him?
Woman> Not sure

Who is are her main supporters?
Woman> Umm I guess me.

How did you find him?
Woman> Not sure

Who was she seeing before?
Woman> Not sure

Who besides your sister is reporting
what’s going on including any side effects?
Woman> What do you mean? Umm. No one I guess.

NOTE-As I type this, ANOTHER guy is talking
on his cell phone. GEEZE!!! If you do this
in libraries don’t!

What are you expectations with the doctor?
Woman> He can help her and help right away
if he is so good.

How long do you think it takes to find
the right medication?
Woman>A few days?

What is your sister doing that is making
you think the medication is wrong?
Woman>She doesn’t have a job?

Do you think your sister can be a success?
Woman> Omm, seriously not really.

Look at what I wrote and look at the woman’s
responses?
Talk about unrealistic expectations.
She is her sisters main supporter and she
doesn’t have a clue.

Then the woman was super negative about the
doctor. I can’t even type all the bad stuff
she said. I cut her off and basically told
her that she was wrong in blaming the doctor.

After 15 minutes she agreed. And she did
concede that she hasn’t really done anything
other than complain about her sister and
she kind of dumps her sister off to doctors
and hopes they will “take of her.”

Well I am here to say, that doesn’t work.
My dad tried that one for about 38 years and
it never, ever worked.

The bottom line is, with doctors that
treat bipolar disorder you have to be realistic
in what you expect. It takes even the best doctors
time to find the right combination of medication.

Also you have to be fair. Notice the woman thinks
the doctor is not good because her sister isn’t
working. Is that a good measurement of whether
the doctor is good or not? And, how the heck can a
person go from not working
to working after being in a major bipolar disorder episode
in 3 weeks. UNREALISTIC!

Don’t fall into this trap. And the other really
bad thing she has done with her sister is not
shop for a good doctor.

In my courses/systems below you know that I advocate
my doctor/therapist finding system:

SUPPORTING AN ADULT WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.bipolarsupporter.com/report11

SUPPORTING A CHILD/TEEN WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.bipolarparenting.com

HAVE BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.survivebipolar.net

And I advocate getting doctors/therapist to
contact you and sorting through hundreds at
the same time. I recommend shopping for a doctor
like you shop for a car, painter, etc.

It’s amazing that people will show more
for food that a good doctor.

BUT on the flip side it didn’t sound like
her sister had a bad doctor even though he
was kind of random and wasn’t shopped
for. I find that many times people put some
much demand on the doctors and they want
results that are not realistic or don’t even
make any sense.

A person once told me her doctor wasn’t any good
because he wouldn’t see her after 5pm on Sundays
each week. I asked this person when could he she
you then and she said well any other time but I
liked after 5:00pm on Sundays the best. I was like,
“Ever hear of the word compromise?” She thought about
it then felt dumb. Keep in mind this woman was totally
stable. She then said, well since he makes so much
money he should accommodate me. I just shook my head.

The problem is, she left that doctor and now had
to start over with someone else.

If you don’t like a doctor, seriously sit and think
if what you are thinking makes and sense, you are
being fair and realistic. Don’t get on the doctor
merry go round for no reason.

With that said, I have to take off and the library
is closing.

Don’t forget, Friday, tomorrow is the bipolar news.

Your Friend,

Dave

Bipolar lesson: Do you have this to help you?

Hi,

How’s it going?

I hope you had a great day yesterday.

I think I really shook a few people up
yesterday about my email and looking
for a magic solution to every problem
with bipolar disorder–the fact that
one does not exist. From the responses
I got, I think I really have pushed people
into the right way of thinking of bipolar
disorder.

With that said, a number of people emailed
me about what do I mean about having plans
for handling Bipolar episodes.

I wanted to address this today in my daily
email–a plan for bipolar disorder.

Basically I have a plan for virtually every
situation that I can think of that could happen
with my mom and bipolar disorder.

It might sound like a huge gigantic task
but it’s really not.

Basically what I did is look back in
the past at my mom’s bipolar disorder
episodes. Then I made a list of the problems
and what happened and went wrong.

Then I brainstormed other things that could
happen. Then I began to sit and make plans
to address each situation.

After three years now, I have a complete
list of solutions to virtually all the
problems. It also helps that I have 8 people
who work for me with bipolar disorder and
I have tens of thousands of people on my mailing
lists.

Virtually every concept that I have is included
in my main courses/systems below:

SUPPORTING AN ADULT WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?

SUPPORTING A CHILD/TEEN WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?

HAVE BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.survivebipolar.net

The bottom line is, with bipolar disorder
you have to plan. You have to stay on top of
things. You have to think about what happen
in the past. You have to think about what could
happen in the future.

You have to look at patterns and make
predictions.

Then you have to be solution oriented and
make a plan.

You know, most people in life just don’t have
any plans. It’s kind of strange. I constantly have
a plan for everything. I guess that’s just the
way I am. I have a workout plan, eating plan,
bipolar plan, business plan, volunteer plan, writing
plan, etc., hiking plan, etc.

There’s a quote by Napoleon Hill. It says,
“people don’t plan to fail, they
fail to plan.”

It’s amazing to me, how with bipolar disorder,
how little effort people put into planning.
They put more effort into complaining about
bipolar disorder then they do planning.

I have found, the key with bipolar is planning.
I know I keep repeating myself but I want to get
the point across loud and clear.

If you know of someone who is a successful bipolar
supporter besides me, or someone who successfully
manages bipolar disorder, ask him/her if having a
plan was one of the major keys. I am very positive
the person will say yes.

There are people that came to me more than 2 years
ago. They were a wreck. Constantly worried about
what was coming around the corner. Now when I talk
to these people they are relaxed and not worried.
Bipolar disorder is still in their lives but they
have a plan and having a plan cuts down on anxiety,
stress, etc.

Ask yourself this question: “On a scale of 1
to 10, with 10 meaning you have the greatest plans
ever and 1 meaning you have no plan for anything
at all, how do you rate yourself?”

If you are less than a 7, what are you going to
do to get to a 10? And if you have been less than
a 7 for a long time, please understand that
whatever you have been doing is not really working
and you need to change direction.

Well I have to take off, catch you tomorrow.

Dave

Bipolar Warning. The one thing you shouldn’t do

==>>Help with ALL aspects of bipolar disorder<<==

Hi,

How’s it going?

I wanted to write today about a serious
problem that I see many people having and a big
mistake that is being made.

Recently I have noticed a whole lot of people
contacting me and wanting almost instant answers
on how to totally completely help a loved one
from a to z in a few days.

Some of the conversations and posts that I have
seen make me really want to send out this email.

First, you have to understand, things with bipolar disorder
take time. You can’t rush stuff. You can’t push your
loved one to get better “immediately.” It would be
great if there was a way to undo a bipolar episode in
a few hours or days but there is NOT such a way.

I can’t believe I have read people want a “magic”
set of words to get a person to accept their illness.

Michele Soloway pointed this out to me and she was
like, “When someone writes something like that,
do you think they are serious?” I told her, “yea
I think so.”

She said, “boy that’s scary.” It really is.

Another person sent me a letter in the mail and his is
a quote from it “I just need a few quick ideas
to get her to understand what she has. I don’t
have lots of time so please keep it short.”

Imagine getting a letter like that?

You will notice, that I have a CD called
“My Mom’s Story.” Why do I have this cd? Well
it’s to show from a to z how long and what I had
to go through to help my mom get stable and start
to fix all the things that she had done when she
was in her major bipolar episode.

I do this so people have an idea of how long
it takes. I remember when my mom was on the
road to stability, I always thought in my head,
“Is she on track? Behind? Ahead?” I had no
one to ask and to compare to. When you listen to
that CD it gives you some idea. Everyone is
obviously different but the cd represents a
fair understanding of how long it will take.

But for those that haven’t listened yet,
I have a few things to say. Each problem
with bipolar disorder can be solved in a multitude
of ways. There are generally no one size fits
all solutions to every problem. Just like each
person requires a different group of medication
or medications.

Take a look at this.

Let’s look at getting someone into treatment. There
are more than 23 ways I have discovered that can accomplish
then. I have personally used 3 of them. The first
one worked the first time I needed it. However the second
time my mom went into an episode, the first method, second,
third, fourth and I think like up to method 7 didn’t work.
Eventually one method worked for her SECOND episode. Then
in her third episode, the previous other two methods did NOT
and I repeat did NOT work. I had to keep trying stuff
until something finally worked.

How did I come up with a list of 23? Well the ones
that I didn’t personally invent, came from
people all over the world that had other ideas that
worked.

When I had about 15,000 people on my list, I sent out an email
to everyone asking for people to send me a proven way
they used to get a loved one into treatment. I got hundreds
of responses. Any time I got the same response 4 times
I included it on the list. I also then interviewed one of the
people who used the technique.

In my bipolar supporter course, you find all these options.
BUT, there is NO magic few words or one line that works in
all cases. I am kind of amazed people even think that it’s
going to be that easy.

Now let’s look at something else. Getting someone to accept
his/her bipolar disorder. There are a number of techniques
in this area as well. Each technique has to be tried to see
which one will work.

Michele and I were talking today and we both said,
if you are going to be a good bipolar supporter, you have
to be realistic and fair to your loved one. You can’t
expect instant results.

Remember that bipolar disorder is tough and complicated. It’s
going to be hard in the beginning getting the ball rolling.
Some times you might feel the ball is going to roll back down
the hill and run you over. But you push harder and harder
and then eventually you are up the stability mountain where
things are calm, peaceful and much easier. It does take time
and it takes techniques and there are a lots of them to learn.

My goal is to have you cut your learning curve down substantially.
Instead of it taking you 5 to 15 to 20 years to figure it
all out. I want to cut that down dramatically into 6 months,
a year, etc.

Do you know how many years my mom spent trying to figure out
bipolar disorder? Seriously decades. Michele Soloway spent
more than 20 years. Bob who works the bipolar inner circle
forum took more than 10 or 15 years.

I don’t have an exact statistic but the average person who
is either a supporter or survivor has spent more than 10
years trying to develop a way to cope and deal with
bipolar disorder.

My goal like I said it so to cut that way down but I am
NEVER, EVER going to cut the learning curve down to a few
minutes, hours or days.

Today I just wanted to remind everyone this.

I know personally with my mom, November is a tough period
and so is December. We have the system in place. BUT it’s possible
that the plan I have might not work so I have to go to plan
b, and maybe c, maybe even plan d–the ones in my course.
BUT I don’t expect any kind of magic to work and
take care of everything.

Well with that said, I have to take off. I have a super long
day ahead of me. Have a great day and catch you first thing
tomorrow morning.

I think I am going to do a F.REE podcast on people
with bipolar disorder accepting their illness, why
you shouldn’t be so darn hard on those that don’t.

I have an interesting view on this. I can’t write it
because it’s too complicated so I am thinking of doing
a podcast for f.ree.

Well catch you later.

Bipolar Lessons From The New Movie Rendition

==>>Help with ALL aspects of bipolar disorder<<==
Check out all my resources, programs and information
for all aspects of bipolar disorder by visiting:
http://www.bipolarcentral.com/catalog.asp

Hi,

How’s it going?

Hope you had a good weekend.

Well today I wanted to email you some
lessons on bipolar disorder that I took
away from the movie Rendition.

What’s Rendition?

Here is a description I found from imdb on what
Rendition is:

“Rendition presents a very topical matter
in the form of a very tense thriller. It’s a
gripping, and not a preaching, movie. Seeing
it in an Arab country with a mixture of Arabian
and European audience gave it an extra level of
atmosphere. The audience was totally gripped by
the film and gave it a loud applause afterwards.

The story of an Egyptian, married to an American,
picked up on the suspicion of links to terrorist
organizations and shipped to a friendly (with US)
Arab country for “enhanced interrogation
(as Meryl Streep’s character states in the film:
“we have no torture in the US”) seems to be from
the front page of todays news.

There is a very neat link between the various
of the film never drops. The movies’ message seems
to be (as stated by Jake Gyllenhal’s character in
the film) that by abducting and torturing suspects
you create many more terrorists. The acting is
uniformly excellent with Streep and Reese Witherspoon
the stand outs. Not to be missed.”

The movie was really, really good but kind
of disturbing. Basically a guy in America
is “taken” to some prison and is tortured
over and over again because he would not
“confess.”

Lynn on my blog wrote the other day:

Lynn said…
Hi. I saw ‘Rendition’ w/some A.A. friends,
last evening. I didn’t really know anything
about it x that it was something about espionage (sp).
It was a little difficult to watch in some places,
but it was very well, very realistically, very
believably done, and I would highly recommend it.
Certainly gives you alot to think about, and talk
about w/your friends! Ooh, by the way, I HAVE
BIPOLAR DISORDER.”

Anyway, I was thinking about something related
to bipolar disorder and it’s a super important
lesson.

Basically in the movie an American person
is taken without going to any kind of court.
In the movie you assume that something
like this can’t happen in America and
that people are treated right and put
through the court system. This isn’t
true in the USA any more. Rendition
is a real thing you can run a search
in the search engines and see.

Anyway with that said, it reminds me
of the huge mistake bipolar supporters
make with loved ones with bipolar disorder.

I have talked about this mistake as
TOBC (total outsourced bipolar care).

This is when a bipolar supporter kind of
drops off a person into some part of the mental
health system and doesn’t do any kind of
watching or checking in on what’s going on.

They think, “well all I have to do is
just get my loved one to the doctor
or hospital and they will take it from there
and I am all done.”

People like this assume: all doctors
are good, family support is not necessary
or important, all therapists are good, people
are treated okay in hospitals, group homes,
out patient programs, etc.

I am here to tell you, this is NOT true.

Today there are many great doctors,
therapists, hospitals, group homes, outpatient
programs but there are some that are not and
there are people that are in good places that
are bad and do bad things.

Over the last couple of years, I have heard
many horror stories of how people with bipolar
disorder have been treated. Many of these stories
came from bipolar supporters not the people with
the disorder–just in case your thinking that the
story my have been made up by someone with bipolar
disorder in an episode. However some have come from
bipolar survivors and I totally believe them.

I interviewed one day that said his brother
was chained to a wall, attacked, hit, abused,
not really fed and made fun of in a hospital
many years ago. Another person with bipolar
disorder told me he was chained to a wall for many
days in a hospital in the 1960s that is now shut
down.

A girl that I knew told me she went to a place
that had animals and one of the cages was donated
from a psychiatric hospital when decades ago
they used the cages for “difficult” and/or “bad
patients.”

A person I interviewed the other day told me
she was sexually assaulted under care. She also
told me here doctor fell asleep during visits
with him.

My mom has told me her old doctor fell asleep
while she was talking to him numerous times.
I didn’t believe her until I met
him. Like my special reports say, he was totally
“clueless.” He couldn’t fall asleep with me because
I turned the heat up on him BIG TIME 🙂

A furniture sales person told me 15 to 20 years ago
he worked at a program for the mentally ill and the person
who ran it had a scam that basically took all the people’s
money from them to him.

Today it appears that things are not as bad.

I think with the advent of the News and media those
bad places can’t do these extreme things anymore. BUT
there was a story recently of a person in jail with a mental
illness that was mistreated and died in prison because he
didn’t get the right treatment plan. You may have seen
this on TV.

I do hear over and over of cases where the system doesn’t
help someone, medication is not given, people are not
listened to, doctors don’t show up for appointments with
serious situations, patients are given two different
medications that conflict, etc.

The list goes on and on. In all these cases, there was
no one to watch over and check out what was going on.

The lesson that I took away from the movie Rendition
is that bad things can happen to good people and that
things that you think can never happen in “this day
and age” can especially in mental health. Because many
times the system unfortunately doesn’t always treat
those dealing with mental health whether supporters
or survivors fairly or well.

So if you have a loved one in the mental health system,
I strongly advice you to follow all my rules of making
your loved one a 5 percenter and getting him/her
the best care.

HAVE BIPOLAR DISORDER?

I talk about how to do this at length. I talk
about the phone calls you need to make, checking
in, “drive bys”, “check ins”, the concept of
Mrs. C. etc. There is a whole list of things
that need to be done to make sure a loved one
with bipolar disorder not only is not mistreated
but gets the absolute best care they can possibly
get.

I found this out way early on that most of the
time the system needed “positive pressure” from
me.

You should NOT, and I repeat should NOT assume
that a person will get great care because that’s
what a doctor, therapist, hospital, etc. is suppose
to do.

When I spoke to someone at the movie Rendition, he said,
“You’d never think something like that would ever happen
but I guess it does.” He got me to thinking of all
the bipolar supporters that come to me after the system
has run them over and I give them a plan on how to
run the system over and I point out how the
system really works and people are amazed. They always
say, “I can’t believe it works like this, it shouldn’t.”

NOTE-This is not a slam against doctors, therapists
and hospitals I am just pointing out reality. I write
about the truth and reality not theory. If you are
offended I am sorry but what I say is the total
truth.

Well I have to take off. I will catch you tomorrow.
Have a great day. And I do recommend that movie Rendition.

Your Friend,

Dave
