Bipolar Cures and Natural Remedies

Hi,

Hope you’re having a good day.

I hate those commercials that say, “You need to take this,” or “You need to do that…”

They make me feel like if I don’t do it, I’m being left out of something, or something bad is going to happen to me, you know?

But then I shake my head out of the advertising propaganda and remember it’s just that – they want me to feel that way.

It’s just an advertising ploy to get me to buy something I don’t really need or want, and I know I’m not going to die without it!

I’m also realistic.

I remember that what works for SOME, doesn’t necessarily work for ALL!

That’s why I’m so careful about what I put into my body, and what I recommend to other people.

Like I’ve been really criticized for my stand on “miracle cures” for bipolar disorder.

Come on, we all know that there’s no cure for bipolar disorder right now.

I wish there were, I really do, because I’d be the first one to tell you!

It would be the headline of my Bipolar News section on the website!

But that’s just not reality, and I don’t want you to get scammed.

And I have had people write to tell me about these “miracle cures” and how they did get scammed, enough to know that they aren’t true.

But I’ve also been criticized about how I warn people about supplements and natural remedies as well.

So let me get that straight.

I’m not into propaganda. I’m not selling any natural remedies or anything myself, so I have nothing to gain by this.

And even though I’ve been accused of this (I have no idea where this came from), I am NOT a representative of a drug manufacturer making millions of dollars on my website pushing drugs (I am not a millionaire, believe me – I don’t even take a salary!)

I just want people to know the truth.

I do discuss supplements and natural aids in my courses/systems. But I do it with a big warning to do it WITH your doctor’s knowledge and permission!

And always IN ADDITION TO and NOT INSTEAD OF your regular bipolar medication.

I have to acknowledge that these supplements and natural aids for people with bipolar disorder are out there, just like I have to acknowledge that these ads are out there for things I don’t need or want.

It doesn’t mean they’re bad OR good. I’ve heard they’ve helped some people, but I’ve also heard the opposite.

All I do is warn people that they should ALWAYS, ALWAYS CHECK WITH THEIR DOCTOR before trying any herbal or natural remedies.

In addition, remember that just because something worked for one person doesn’t necessarily mean it’s  going to work for you.

Think very carefully before you try something you’ve never tried before.

And always remember that “If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”

Some companies will try to take advantage of you, so be careful of that as well.

There is a saying that goes, “If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it.”

In other words, if your bipolar medication is working, don’t mess with it.

I don’t want to keep repeating myself, but I don’t think I could say this enough times:

THERE IS NO CURE FOR BIPOLAR DISORDER, natural or otherwise.

Don’t listen to any advertisement that tells you that there is, even if there are a thousand testimonials from people with bipolar disorder who supposedly were cured using this product!

Think about this fact: There is NO, and I repeat NO, natural product, supplement, aid, or “cure” for bipolar disorder on the market today that has been approved by the FDA!!!

That ought to tell you something right there!

That isn’t just David Oliver talking. That is the Food and Drug Administration talking!

Don’t fall for fancy advertising. Don’t feel like you’re missing out on something. Listen to your doctor.

Do what is working for you.

Stick to your treatment plan, and the systems that you’re following, and you can manage your bipolar disorder.

Bipolar Disorder? Discover The Advantages To Staying Home

Hi,

I wanted to drop you a quick line about something.

The other day I sent out a notice about a resource I have titled:

“161 Ways To Make Money From Home If You Are Dealing With Bipolar Disorder.”

It’s located at:
http://www.bipolarsupporter.com/specialoffer/bipolarbusiness/

Many people have asked if this is for bipolar survivors or bipolar supporters?

The answer is both.

For the bipolar survivor there are soooo many advantages of a home business.

One of the biggest is the ability to increase your income, of course.

But there are other advantages, too, like the flexibility to set your own schedule, work in the comfort of your own home, save money on gas and car expenses as well as the freedom to not have to drive to work.

No more boss looking over your shoulder, no more gossipy co-workers, no more late hours coming home, no more weekend or day off call-ins.

You are your own boss!

And another big advantage is that you can work around your bipolar disorder. If you are having an “off day,” (which will now be ok, you don’t have to call in sick, or somehow try to cover it up), you can take the day off!

For the bipolar supporter:

You also have many advantages to a home business, the biggest advantage still being, of course, the increased income.

Whether you decide to work outside the home and let your loved one work the business, or whether you decide to work it together is up to you, as you have that flexibility!

But if you decide to stay home as well, the advantages are the same (and more) for you as for your loved one.

If you have children, you also get to save money on day care expenses, and to spend more time as a family.

You and your loved one both will have more personal time together as well. No more “home late from work,” or spoiled dinners!

You get to work side by side with your loved one, working the business together.

And you can be an even better supporter, helping your loved one to manage their bipolar disorder.

I encourage everyone to really think about a home business and investigate it.

If you don’t have my resource you can get more information by visiting:

http://www.bipolarsupporter.com/specialoffer/bipolarbusiness/

Hey one more thing. I am not crazy because you see all those “.” in between words. I am doing that to try to avoid having my message caught in the filters.

Bipolar Disorder? Change Your Mood, Change Your Day

Hi,

How’s it going?

I have had a ton of computer problems.

My lap top started dying and my computer Friend recommended that I simply transfer to a new one since I had a warranty.

I had so many problems. Yesterday before I made the change, it took me about 35 minutes to send one email.

That’s a long time : )

I think I have it all fixed finally. I was working on it until like 2:00am.

I actually used this backup service called Carbonite.com to transfer all the material. I highly recommend it for backing up your computer.

It saved me a ton of time and grief.

Well let me jump into this lesson today.

Did you know that you can change your mood at any time?

Your mood is a CHOICE.

Now, I’m not talking about the mood swings that come from the chemical imbalances of the bipolar disorder. You can’t help those.

I’m just talking about normal moods. The ones that everyone has.

The ones that supporters have.

Like you might be having a bad day.

You might still be stewing about something your loved one said or did the night before.

So you’re having a bad day today because of it.

Let it go!

There are some things you can change, and some things you can’t change.

What your loved one says or does is something you CAN’T change…

But your mood is something you CAN change.

You CAN control yourself.

You CAN control your own reactions.

And you CAN control your day.

Let’s go back to what your loved one said or did the night before.

Maybe you don’t think you handled the situation the way you would have liked to.

Maybe you’re still thinking about it, and wished you could have said or done something differently.

And now today you’re still stewing about it, and it’s affecting your mood.

But here’s the truth.

You CAN’T change yesterday!

What happened, happened.

And you can’t go back and change it.

You have to let it go.

So maybe you wish you did it differently.

If you learn from it, you can turn it from a negative into a positive.

Just like you can turn today’s mood from negative to positive.

That’s something I teach in my courses/systems below. That you can turn things from negative to positive. It all depends on your attitude, and understanding what you have control over, and what you don’t have control over. In my courses/systems below:

You DO have control over your mood today.

If you’re in a bad mood, you can change that.

You can stop brooding about yesterday…

Just accept what happened…

Learn from it what you can…

Try to do it differently next time the same situation presents itself…

Let it go…

And make today a better day…

Just by changing your mood!

Bipolar Disorder? What’s a Man Thing?

Hi,

How’s it going for you today?

My today was horrible yesterday.

I have had a ton of problems with my computer.

I couldn’t even send an email yesterday.

I think I have finally figured the problem.

Anyway, let’s jump into today’s topic.

I have to tell you the funniest story.

I think I have the craziest friends.

This one friend of mine, her husband dumped a whole bunch of hot grease down their kitchen sink, and when it hardened, of course it clogged up all the pipes and they couldn’t use the sink at all.

Well, they tried drain opener three times. No luck.

Then they tried boiling hot water and dish detergent with grease cutter another three times with no luck.

Finally, her husband had to get under the sink, take out the trap, and manually pull out all the hardened grease by hand, then scrub out the remaining grease.

Ugh. I sure wouldn’t want to do that. Well his wife (my friend) made him, because he caused this problem in the first place!

Well, all my friend did was laugh as she was telling me this story, and when I asked her why she didn’t get mad over it, she said:

“Because it’s a man thing.”

“What’s a man thing?” I asked (being a man, I wanted to know).

“You know,” she said, “One of those things you guys can’t help doing, just because you’re a man.”

And I felt about this big, you know?

And I know this is kind of a funny way to bring this up, but it made me think of the stigma attached to mental illness.

I talk about stigma in my courses/systems below:

SUPPORTING AN ADULT WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.bipolarsupporter.com/report11

SUPPORTING A CHILD/TEEN WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.bipolarparenting.com

HAVE BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.survivebipolar.net

Stigma is like what my friend was doing – She was taking men and generalizing about all of them.

Like saying that every man is the same, just because he is a man.

And men do “man things.”

(whatever those are)

So…

Like the stigma society has against mental illness, they think that everyone with a mental illness is “crazy.”

Then, of course, they have their own definition of “crazy,” too.

Some of them, believe it or not, even think they can “catch” bipolar disorder from you!

Because they don’t see the distinction between one mental illness from another.

They are all the same.

Just like my friend thinks that all men are the same.

And I know she’s not the only one, either.

There are a lot of people in society that are still scared of people with bipolar disorder, unfortunately.

They’re scared because they don’t know enough about the disorder to not be scared.

The only thing we can do is educate them about it.

That’s why I’ve got the website, and I’m trying hard to get out information to people about bipolar disorder, so they’ll understand it more, and there won’t be so much stigma surrounding it.

And hey, what IS a “man thing,” anyway?

With Bipolar Don’t Always Imagine This

Hi,

How’s it going?

I saw an interesting post that said:

I thought you were a wierdo on the make; taking advantage.I ignored most of the emails and felt angry. However today I have discovered the comments by other sufferers and this was because I realised you had words of comfort and wisdom in your updates which made me look further.

For some reason, I have gotten a few people this past week asking to work for me but then asking me questions suggesting that I was running some kind of scam.

Which obviously I am not.

I am glad this person sees that I am working hard to help. It’s no simple task.

I was reading a book and saw this quote:

I have been through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened,” by Mark Twain.

I was thinking about this and it reminded me of many negative supporters who think everything will go wrong and nothing will go right.

Now bipolar disorder is serious and things do go wrong, but you just can’t be thinking about all the negative things all the time.

If you concentrate on all the worst things, you can’t help your loved one get better, because it will make you have a negative attitude.

Then your loved one will pick up on it, and they will have a negative attitude, too, and they won’t get better.

They’ll just start thinking, “I’ll never get better. I may as well just give up.”

It’s just like that Mark Twain quote. They’ll just start imagining all sorts of things.

Just like you.

If you start thinking about the worst things all the time, you’ll start imagining that things will happen, and they might not even happen.

Like you’ll be walking around on eggshells waiting for the next episode to happen, when it might be YEARS before the next time your loved one goes into an episode again.

And what if your loved one does the same thing?

In my courses/systems, I talk about how a positive attitude vs. a negative attitude can affect your loved one’s stability.

I’m not saying that you shouldn’t plan for things that might happen. I’m not saying that at all.

You still have to plan but many times, people imagine the worst all the time.

You should still have your Episode Emergency Plan in place.

What’s that?

Well, even though you don’t want your loved one to go into an episode, and you shouldn’t be worried about it all the time, you should still have a plan in place in case they do. That’s just smart thinking.

What you do is, you make a list of all their medications (keep it current, too) with dosages and when they’re supposed to take them, and have it in a handy place in case they do go into an episode and have to go to the hospital.

Also keep a list (current) of their doctor, psychiatrist and therapist, with names, addresses, and phone numbers handy, along with all other contact numbers, like family, etc. for the same reason.

Also, if you have any documents, you need to keep these somewhere where you can get to them easily if your loved one goes into an episode and needs to be hospitalized.

For example, if you keep them in a safety deposit box and your loved one needs to go to the hospital on a Sunday, you won’t be able to get to the documents.

These are documents like a Power of Attorney and a Medical Release Form, that your loved one needs to sign in advance when they are NOT in an episode.

So what I’m saying is not that you expect the worst so that you’re in a constant state of worry, but you still plan for emergencies in case they happen.

You can still keep a positive attitude, especially for your loved one, but still be prepared at the same time.

You can, as the saying goes…

“Plan for the worst, but hope for the best.”

What do you think?

Bipolar Disorder? Just Because The Message Is Negative…

Hi,

How’s it going for you today?

I have a friend that is kind of like a young philosopher.

One day my friend said that one of his friends was “the most self-actualized persons he knows” (whatever that means) lol

So anyway, I was talking to my friend and he was telling me about the reality of many of the parents in his school system–more than 50% don’t really parent well.

He said that he has tried to explain to parents that they should not work in New York and drive 4 hours or more a day because the kids aren’t getting the kind of love, guidance and supervision they need and ultimately get into drugs and other bad things.

He said that parents yell at him and say things like, “How the heck am I going to pay for my big house if I don’t work in New York?”

NOTE-It’s common that many New York people moved to just over the borderline in Pennsylvania for big gigantic houses. This is super stupid but that’s another story. (NOTE-This area has one of the highest drug, gang, foreclosure and divorce rates in the United States…because people work in New York and live in PA).

So anyway, my friend tells these parents things like, “You made a mistake buying this house. It’s okay to make mistakes but now you have to make a choice, live in big house or downsize into a much smaller house and get a local job and spend time with your kids.”

He says that parents go crazy so to speak when they hear this and he says,

“Just because the message is negative doesn’t mean it’s wrong.”

I said to him, I deliver many a negative message to people dealing with bipolar and they get mad.

It’s true. Many of the things I teach in my courses/systems may seem negative to you when you read them at the time, but if you practice them, they will help you to achieve stability.

One of these messages is about medication.

People with bipolar disorder would rather hear that they only have to be on medication temporarily, just until they feel better.

Then I come along and tell them they have to take it for the rest of their lives in order to stay stable.

It’s like that saying, “Don’t shoot the messenger!”

Remember, “Just because the message is negative, doesn’t mean it’s wrong.”

In fact, in this case, it just might save your loved one’s life.

Or like I tell people with bipolar disorder that they have to have 8 hours of sleep a night, and some people don’t want to hear that.

They think that they should be able to have as much or as little sleep as they want.

But too much sleep can put you into a bipolar depressive episode, and too little sleep can lead to a bipolar manic episode.

Again, “Just because the message is negative, doesn’t mean it’s wrong.”

In this case, the information could keep your loved one from going into an episode.

I tell your loved one that they need to go to see their doctor, psychiatrist and therapist as well, and they may not want to hear that.

They think it’s a negative message.

But without going to those appointments regularly, they won’t be stable.

And I tell them that they have to get a good doctor, that not all doctors are good.

That they definitely think is a negative message, because we’re brought up to believe that all doctors are good.

But I’ve heard from or talked to too many people with bipolar disorder and /or their supporters and I know different.

So you have to find a good doctor and you have to listen to them and do what they tell you to do in order to be stable.

So all these things are just examples of what could be taken as negative messages, but again, as the saying goes:

“Just because the message is negative, doesn’t mean it’s wrong.”

Bipolar Disorder? Live like this

Hi,

How’s it going?

I hope you’re having a good day.

I have to go really quick because I am going to brunch with my mom and dad. It’s my dad’s birthday.

Anyway, my computer is driving me out of my mind. It’s locking up every three seconds. It needs a trip to the computer hospital but I don’t have time to bring it : )

Let’s talk about today’s topic really quick and then I have to take off, okay?

I saw this plaque that said:

“It’s never too late to live Happily Ever After.”

I thought that was really cool.

What a concept, huh?

Especially when you apply it to bipolar disorder.

Too many people with bipolar disorder (and their supporter) “stop” their lives once the diagnosis is made.

They think the opposite of the saying:

“It’s never too late to live Happily Ever After.”

They think that now that they have bipolar disorder, their lives are going to be controlled by it…

Because now they have to take medication for the rest of their lives…

Because now all their time will be spent running to appointments and other places related to their bipolar disorder:

· Doctors
· Psychiatrist
· Therapist
· Pharmacy
· Support Group

They are afraid they can’t do the things they used to because it might cause them to go into an episode.

Yes, it’s true that you do have to change some things when you’re diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

But it does NOT mean that your whole life has to change!

And it shouldn’t mean that your happiness has to change, either.

“It’s never too late to live Happily Ever After.”

The dreams you had before the diagnosis, you can still have.

The hopes you still had before, you can still have.

The plans you had before, you can still have.

You just have to have a good treatment plan, and in my courses/systems, I show you how to develop one:

Bipolar disorder doesn’t have to control your whole life.

In fact, most people with the disorder only have about two episodes in a whole year. (Some even less than that)

The rest of the time, they live a fairly normal life.

So there’s no reason to be afraid of the disorder or its affect on your life, your dreams, your hopes, or your plans.

As long as your loved one takes their medication and sticks to their treatment plan…

“It’s never too late to live Happily Ever After.”

Do you agree?
