A think telling freinds about bipolor yes a think you should to make people awere of the mentle illness it is not there fault some people donot understand about it. That is why people are being called all sorts of names to top it all as if the illness is,nt enough to cope with.

    God bless
    Take Care Linda x

  3. Hi Dave
This is Carolyn from the UK. I have had alarm bells ringing in my head about Zypresa – known here better as Olanzapine. It raises the level of Serotonin which in turn reduces the uptake of Dopamine – the pleasure neurotransmitter – which all schizophrenics and bipolar sufferers lack. Now I read that it has not been authorised by the FDA for bipolar and schizophrenics. Nearly all the people I know who suffer from these two illnesses are presently prescribed Olanzapine. Fortunately although I was on it myself I asked to be taken off it because it increased my appetite and I was putting on so much weight!

I would be very grateful for your comments on this.

    Regards

    Carolyn

  5. I am wondering why every time I click on a posting in the news area it sends me to a page saying that I am not allowed to view it…..something about it being private and that I need authorization to view it….maybe there is something I am not doing correctly? I really do not know but would like to be able to view the articles…some of them are very interesting…

  6. I have been married for nearly 52 years to an alcoholic and he has destroyed my life and every thing in it, he was in a mental health ward 3 times, I took care of him and built him back up into a viable human being again only to have him spit in my face and go back to drinking again, finally he was diagnosed as a Bi-Polar diseased person, who has periods of mania and manic times, its been awful, what a horrible life. We are going to court on Tues of this week coming ,,, I filed for Separate Maintenance. He is on his meds he has lost his drivers license and he has lost me, and all of his friends and family. He is a drunk and he is Bi-Polar. the two together are just like an atom bomb. Hateful , disgusting , horrible , treat every one like dirt. Took me years to get over him throwing me a crumb , he is so far gone in my eyes and I dont hate him, he is sick, but cant live with him ever again. I dont know what you think you can do to save this union, but I havent any reason to go on with it. Marilyn Lacross. lacross.marilyn@gmail.com

  7. I was very drawn to the article about bipolar sea creatures. However, it simply stated that these creatures were found at both the north and the south poles and had nothing at all to do with bipolar disorder.

The article about Justin Thurber, who allegedly has bipolar disorder and a very low IQ is fairly disturbing. I didn’t like the way it was written. The writer obviously does not know anyone with bipolar. In my experience most people with bipolar disorder are highly intelligent. Of course it is possible that someone has learning difficulties (retarded) as well as bipolar disorder. However, the article was phrased in a way as if the two mental illnesses were commonly linked, which they are certainly not.

CAROLYN, most bipolar meds seem to take a long time to develop and have a full effect. Olanzepine/Zyprexa seems to work for my boyfriend, who has been taking it since last summer after a manic episode. We have yet to wait and see if it has the full desired mood-balancing effect. It’s still in its experimental stages. Weight gain seems to be the most common side effect, also lethargy and tiredness. From October to Christmas last year he was in a depressive episode and the doctors did not want to risk increasing his anti-depressants in case he would go too high again. Different meds work for different people, which is why it is so difficult to find the right cocktail for each individual.

  8. IHAVE 4CHILDREN THE THEOROPIST SAYS THEY ARE BIPOLAR THEY ARE ON DEPAKOTE 375MG ADAY AND RISPERIDONE 0.50MGS A DAY THE MEDICINE SEEMS TO MAKE THEM WORSE AT TIMES I HAVE THEM SET UP AT CHILDRENS HOSPITAL IN LITTLE ROCK
