Thanks for your email newsletter and the news on bipolar disorder. My daughter has bipolar, diagnosed about 5 years ago after her first manic episode. I teach a microbiology class at Miami Univ. in Ohio and the textbook briefly mentions the possibility of a virus causing schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. It’s an encephalitis virus called the Borna Disease virus (BDV). Have you run across anything about this virus in your readings? Some researchers think there’s a possibility of making progress against bipolar in some cases by using antiviral medication. Any thoughts?
