  1. Just have a question for anyone who may be able to answer. My son was diagnosed with ADHD in March, but recently his therapist is thinking he may be bi-polar as well. He’s eight, so obviously he’s a kid and he gets into “kid” trouble. My question is this. Each night after school, he is an absolute TERROR. Defiant, can be aggressive, doesn’t listen, doesn’t follow rules, you know, everything that an ADHD kid does and some regular kids too. BUT he’s on meds and his meds stop working after about 30 days….is this behavior typical of bi-polar?

  2. I think that the article describing the death of the little girl from overdose was wrong about the medication that killed her. It seems very unlikely that a girl of that age would have been taking Clonidine. I think it was Clonopin, especially since it was given to make her go to sleep. That’s what I use to sleep.Without Clonopin, I would only sleep 1-2 hrs per night. But, I don’t think parents should drug their kids just so they won’t have to interact with them. The number of additional pills this mother got from the pharmacy to replace “lost or damaged” pills tells a story all on it’s own. Don’t have children if you aren’t willing to take the time to nurture them and love them!!!

  3. I have no more interest in getting more help from this site. I tried opting out but there is always an error. I already have the assistance i was looking for and no longer need your repsonses. Thank you! Please stop sending me emails. They are being sentdirectly to spam mails.

  4. Hi Dave
A lot of your mail is repeats which I have seen time and time again. Not to say that I have not been helped by some of your info, I definitely have. One thing I totally disagree with is your attitude towards alcohol and bipolar. Both I and a friend (both of us bipolar)tend to go on the occasional ‘binge’ when we are hitting an episode. Alcohol helps the depression(OK, not in the long term) and the loneliness of being bipolar. I think you need to reseach this aspect a bit more. Liz

  5. Erica,

how can I remove you when I don’t know your last name? Also, every email I send has a remove link and I am 100% positive it works. All you have to do is click on it.

    Dave

  6. To Liz,

Do you realize every medication says do not drink alcohol? If you do, you are asking for serious problems. There are seriously thousands of people on my list that would all say the same thing. It’s a really dangerous.

  7. we are about at our wits end here with the school system. our son who is 13th has bipolar disorder and add. last tuesday the doctor took him off prozac because it was working against him instead of with him and causing episodes that school does not want to handle–since school started around aug 1st he has been suspended 3times making today the 3rd–we are involved with wrap around at school and on wednesday of this week james went into an episode which was provoked by a teacher and the school called the police and was taken to the courthouse and then transported to detention center in vincinnes indiana and held for 12hrs for disorderly conduct-and released into our custody on thursday—he is on probation til he turns 18 for something else that happened 2yrs ago because he was not on the right medication–and had a great year last year-due to medication adjustments–he is currently on ability and metadate cd but until the prozac gets out of his system he will continue to go into an episode when someone says the wrong thing–waiting for the prozac to get out of his system to see if any more adjustments may be needed for his medication–yes james is in counseling once a week but the school will not work with us–they want him sent off or out of school–he enjoys going to school–they expect a miracle or something–we are not giving up on him–i think we are depressed because school calls every other day to get james—they have a resource room he can go to but rarely anyone in the room–school doesnt have anyone–any suggestions—no i havent purchased any of the information that you have offered–barely making the bills we have—have tried to get james on disability but he has been denied twice…

  8. Dave,
I’m 43, and was newly diagnosed around 6mos ago.
I have to say, I truly have had Bi-polar, most of my life, and I cycle through the same storm around 3-5 years. I do o.k., but I do have ptoblems with my relationships, and job changes are inevitable, every 6 months to a year.

This cycle though, it was more pronounced, in my behavior, I couldn’t bounce back, like I ususally would, I have never taken off time for work, but I had to. My family members, are disappointed, and I don’t talk to them at all, lot’s of changes, but nothing positive. I have to admit, I lke being animated, energetic (manic), and its been a hard battle to give in to.

I Have wrapped up about 45,000 in debt not including my car payments, I am trying to still get
adjusted to my meds, and (non compliance) is an issue because, I have very fast thoughts, I get to busy and forget.
I do have a memory problem, and do forget often,
I become scattered and irrational. but I was taking my time, to chooose what type of debt program, because I have a house foreclosing, and I didn’t want to just walk away, I wanted to make it right.

I paid the $1,300 up front, but maybe I missed understood, but I didn’t know we were on a specific time frames, and I had waited 2 months
to figure out if I wanted to repay, or file Chapter 13 or 7, I decided that, because I dont want the stress doing me in, unfortunately the attorney said I waited too long, did not contact them,
he no longer will represent me.

I needed him, but to no avail, Is their anything you can sugest to How can I go-about how it goes tr

  9. I have a son who is adhd and i know he is at least bipolar but the Dr. are so afraid to say he is but thay give him meds. for bipolar. How can you get help for it if the Dr. won’t be strate with you.

  10. Grrr! First of all I can’t figure out how to access the Psychoeducational Manual because you have to subscribe to the page, how does one do that? It said I needed a mailing label, which suggests I am not able to register on line. It was the only thing I was interested in reading.

Also more sad stories about death and violence and bipolar. More success stories please. Without a balance of the good and the bad this “Current Bipolar News” is strengthening the stigma around mental illness = violence. Violence is a rare outcome but the news makes it sound like every person with a mental illness will ‘snap’ and become violent when you least expect it.
    Just my thoughts.

  11. Query has anyone heard of drug nulactil, have looked on the web but can not find anything that says what the side effects are.
The alcohol question seems to be one that is causing comment – I understand the need to feel one of the crowd -= but it is an unrealistic thought that the meds don’t have an effect – your blood reading would show a much higher level with meds. than if you were not on any. All I can say is be careful, the labels aren’t put on the bottles just to hide the contents inside.

  12. Your generalization that all people with bipolar have a tendency to lie is a falacy. There are multiple tupes of Bipolar Disorder and not all of them include lying. Because of your statement I lost the love of my life because he was convinced by your page that I was a compulsive liar due to my having Depressive bipolar. You need to make it clear that there are different types and not all have the same symptoms. I personally am not a compulsive liar and am tempted to contact someone regarding this statement to pursue legal action against the Americans with Disabilities Act

  13. Hey I am leaving a message here for (Bronwyn said… about nulactil and its side effects)
I was put on this drug when i was 5years old for about 6 weeks while i was addmitted into a childs psychiartic hospital – aka state home – warila – brisbane in 1973.

The side effects that I got from the drug were – unsteadyness on my feet – I would often fall over – I would go into myself but considering the crap that was happening around me its a no wonder – i didnt need the drugs and they were ineffective becuase they were prescribed for a problem which back in those days was a problem that the authorietys didnt want to talk about – or shut up and stop telling lies . this kinda deal. Give her this medication – it will calm her down. Yikes !!!
Anyway i dont know if i am bipolar or anything- i would prefer not to be any particular diagnosis and i dont want to take any drugs that are on offer by a government offical.
If you read through some of my thoughts on the web http://objective.past.tripod.com/index.html

its got some stuff there about nulactyl – nulactil

    Cheers
