What can to do a supporter or a caretaker?Actually I am happy with the situation because with your help my mind plenty clarify.I am understanding many things. The second psychiatry that attended my loved one has prescribe a medication that is an antidepressant for nervous depression, TOC,stress pos-traumatic,panic upset. The important was that she enlarged the possible areas, and that she is going well with the medication. For the persons,”once have been persuaded that they are suffering from a biochemical abnormality of their central nervous system that can be corrected by pills, there is a good chance that their personality will be restored to normal or nerar normal in few weeks.Treatment with antidepressants, may have to be continued for many month or longer”.In other hand ” all important drugs have important side-effects,and the true nature of the depression affecting the patient hasn’t been realized. The question is : endogenous depression ( without apparent cause) or bipolar, and that the diagnose could be deliberately vague so as to preserve the pacient’s confidentiality.Lilian P.

  4. Dear Dave,
I recently found out that my departed grandfather was Bipolar, and upon further investigation discovered that so was my mother, sister and several other members of family on my mother’s side. How genetic is Bipolar?
Thanks for your mails. They are really interesting and helpful.

  5. I received this in an email from my sister-in-law (she knows I support 2 BPDs, but what she doesn’t know yet is I can add 2 more since my husband’s daughter and husband have moved in again) so instead of boring everyone with the typical book I write, I copied and pasted the story because BPD or no mental disorders, I feel that nearly everyone needs to read something like this every now and then:

    When your hut’s on fire:

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him. Every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements, and to store his few possessions. One day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, with smoke rolling up to the sky. He felt the worst had happened, and everything was lost. He was stunned with disbelief, grief, and anger. He cried out, ‘God! How could you do this to me?’ Early the next day, he was awakened by the sound of a ship approaching the island! It had come to rescue him! ‘How did you know I was here?’ asked the weary man of his rescuers. ‘We saw your smoke signal,’ they replied.

    The Moral of This Story:

It’s easy to get discouraged when things are going bad, but we shouldn’t lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of our pain and suffering. Remember that the next time your little hut seems to be burning to the ground. It just may be a smoke signal that summons the Grace of God.

P.S. Consider passing this on, because you never know who feels as if their hut is on fire today.
