The Big Mistake People With Bipolar Make With Their Medication

Hi,

I wanted to send out a quick message about some criticism that I have been getting concerning my message
I sent out the other day about my new resource:

“Everything You Need To Know About Bipolar M.edications (That Your Doctor May Not Have Told You).”

Located at:
https://www.bipolarsupporter.com/specialoffer/knowaboutbpmeds/

IMPORTANT NOTE
I put a “.” in the word “m.edications” so hopefully the word doesn’t cause it to be sent to junk mail.

I have gotten several people that talk about how one could use natural herbs for bipolar disorder.

I want to warn you about this.

It’s a HUGE potential mistake.

They think they can go off their medication and just take one of these “natural cures” or herbal supplements INSTEAD OF their bipolar medications, so they go off their medicaiton.

People who get off their m.edication, wind up potentially harming themselves and others, and even possibly killing themselves.

You might think I am being extreme.

But I’m not!

There are so many stories of people I have talked to myself who have told me of the times they’ve gone off their medications and hurt their very own families, even though that’s the LAST thing they would ever do, normally!

People have written me emails asking to be taken off my mailing list because their loved one COMMITTED SUICIDE because they went off their medications.

I’ve read so many headlines (and I know you have too, if you read my bipolar news on bipolarcentral.com) that talk about the violence, and even MURDER that people who go off their bipolar medication commit.

If you think I’m scaring you, well just think how scared I was when I talked to people, got those emails, and read the headlines for myself!

If I didn’t know better, even I would have thought I was making this stuff up but, unfortunately, I know I’m not. It’s the TRUTH!

Just look at the statistics – Even national organizations, like NIMH (National Institute on Mental Health) will
tell you that 20% of people that don’t take medication for bipolar disorder, or go off their bipolar medications, will KILL themselves!

That’s 1 in 5 people.

Now, I don’t know about you, but that definitely scares me!

Believe me, I don’t want an email from you telling me to take you off my list because your loved one killed themselves because they went off their bipolar medications.

I don’t want you to suffer like these other people I’ve talked to because their loved one wouldn’t take their medication and got violent and did horrible things.

I don’t want your loved one to do any number of things that they are 100% capable of doing without being on their medication!

That’s why it is SO important that you get my new resource:

How Spirituality Can Help With Bipolar Disorder

Hi,

Hope your day is going well.

Hey lots of people over the last few weeks have been asking me about spirituality and bipolar disorder.

So I wanted to talk about it today.

Many people, whether they have bipolar disorder or not, or are supporters or not, go to church only on Christmas or Easter, and consider that being spiritual (or religious).

Well, I’m not being judgmental of that, really I’m not. Actually, I’m not even talking about religion at all. I’m talking about spirituality (whatever your choice of religious beliefs).

According to a study in “Annals of Epidemiology,” people who attend religious services tend to be healthier than the rest of us.

This report came out earlier this year, but it’s only the latest in a series of studies which have explored the link between spirituality and our health.

This research has found that meditation and prayer seem to be associated with “improved immune systems and fewer episodes of chronic inflammation.”

Ok, so let’s talk about how that relates to bipolar disorder.

In my courses/systems, I talk about how important it is to stability to keep yourself healthy by keeping a good sleep schedule, exercising, and eating a healthy diet.

But there are other things to consider to have a healthy body as well, like this article says, like your spirituality – whether you have bipolar disorder or are supporting someone who does.

Most people don’t consider their spirituality as being as important as it is, when they’re considering what things make up the stability of their bipolar disorder.

In this article, it doesn’t just talk about the physical benefits of spirituality, but the mental health benefits as well.

People who practice spirituality in their lives have a lower stress rate, and also a lower rate of depression just in general.

They tend to be more positive people, and they also tend to be happier.

They also tend to find more fulfillment in their lives.

There was even a study back in September by the Journal of Affective Disorders that showed lower suicide rates among people who regularly attended religious services.

People who practice some form of spirituality take better care of themselves in general.

Now, I am definitely not preaching at you, or telling you that you need to believe a certain way.

But I am telling you that you need to take are of yourself both physically and mentally. And don’t forget spiritually as well.

Do you agree or disagree?

Every Bipolar Disorder Checklist Should Include These

Hi,

I hope you’re having a good day.

Lots of doom and gloom these days in the news. Just don’t watch it.

Anyway, let’s jump into today’s topic.

Have you ever heard of a bipolar checklist?

Well, I hadn’t, until someone told me about it.

I think it’s a good idea, though.

I’ll tell you where she got it from.

She attends Alcoholics Anonymous, and she as telling me about one of the steps where you’re supposed to take a daily inventory of yourself – you know, kind of look back at your day and see how you did, the good and the bad.

Well, she has bipolar disorder and she sort of does the same thing with her disorder – she kind of does a daily checklist with it.

I thought that was kind of a good idea, so I wanted to share it with you.

Even for supporters, who don’t have bipolar disorder, you could still do this in general for yourselves – it’s still a good idea – you can just adapt it for your own life.

Anyway, in my courses/systems I sort of talk about the same idea of a checklist, only I call it a bipolar toolbox:

Ok, so back to what I was saying.

So this woman does a daily mental checklist at the end of her day about her bipolar disorder.

For example, she makes sure she remembered to take her medication.

But she goes the extra mile. She also “checklists” that she has her next morning medication ready for her to take when she wakes up the next day. I think that’s a good idea. (If you’re not already using a pillbox, that is, which is another thing I recommend in my courses/systems.)

So I was thinking.

Here’s some other things you should remember to “checklist” for your bipolar disorder every day:

Make sure you check your calendar for any doctor or therapist appointments.

Make sure you do what you can on your To-Do List (and anything you don’t get done, make a new one for the next day and make sure you put those things on it).

Make sure you keep the lines of communication open with your supporter. (You should be doing this anyway, but this idea came from the woman I told you about from AA, who has to call her sponsor every day.) Make sure you set your alarm for the next morning to wake up at a good time, keeping in mind that you get 8-9 hours of uninterrupted sleep that night.

Make sure you do some type of exercise each day. It might be working out at a gym, or it may just be doing a little walking. Maybe even swimming at the local Y. Just something to keep you active.

Make sure that you eat healthy meals. Some people eat 3 meals a day, while others do better eating 6 smaller meals a day, like a diabetic does. You can find some good, low fat, low calorie recipes on the Internet.

If you keep a mood chart or journal, before you go to bed might be a good time to do this. It would help to think about the day that has passed, and to record your thoughts and feelings, as well as any events that may have triggered any mood changes or affected the way you felt.

Got the idea?

I’m sure you can think of other “Checklist” items. If so, I’d love to hear about them.

Share them with us.

Bipolar Disorder? What is Success?

Hi,

Hope you’re having a good day.

I want to ask you a question today:

What is success?

I mean, what do you think success is, what is the definition of success?

Webster’s dictionary says that the definition of success is, “the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence”  (power).

Do you agree?

Do you think that just because you’ve made lots of money that you’re successful?

Or that if you’ve obtained favor from the president that you’ve obtained success?

Or because you’ve got a lot of power that you’re successful? Well, I’m sorry to disagree with you if you think any of those things, but I just don’t think that they work when it comes to bipolar disorder.

I just can’t see my mom standing before the president (lol).

And I can’t see me rich, since I don’t take a salary at all, and I’m not in this for the money anyway.

And I know you probably don’t have a lot of money, because you probably spend most of it just trying to take care of your loved one with bipolar disorder – for their doctor and therapist visits and for their medications. That can cost a whole lot, I know!

So does that mean that none of us have success?

I define success differently.

It has to do with something I teach in my courses /systems below:

NEW LEARN THE SECRETS OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?
http://www.bipolarsupporter.com/bipolarmastersystem/

SUPPORTING AN ADULT WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:

SUPPORTING A CHILD/TEEN WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.bipolarparenting.com

HAVE BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.survivebipolar.net
I talk about setting long- and short-term goals.

See, I think success is the achieving of the goals you’ve set for yourself (whether you have bipolar disorder or not).

Like, I originally set out with my website to reach as many people as I could with bipolar disorder and their supporters with the message that even though there isn’t any cure for bipolar disorder, there is treatment.

I wanted them to have a place they could come where they could get the most up-to-date information on the disorder in a user-friendly, easy-to-understand, NOT-doctor-speak way.

That’s why I started my website, and my courses/systems, the f.ree mini-course, daily emails, newsletters, and all the rest.

And SO many people have been helped! I know, because they write me all the time! I have SO many testimonials! You can read them for yourself, if you don’t believe me.

So, I think I’m a success not because I’m wealthy, or I have favor, or just because Webster’s dictionary says those things are what success is…

But I think I’m successful because I set my goals, I went after them, and I achieved them.

What about you?

Do you agree or disagree with Webster’s dictionary’s definition of success?

I’d like to hear what YOU think success is.

Warning About Bipolar Supporters and M.edications

Hi,

I wanted to send out something about a huge mistake that bipolar supporters make.

NOTE:
I put a “.” in the word m.edication to help this message not get filtered to your junk mail.

I just don’t want you to think I am crazy : )

Their loved ones don’t want to take m.edication and then start talking about all these bad things about m.edications.

They talk about side effects and how the m.edication makes them feel bad.

They talk about how the m.edication makes them feel “different,” or “not like themselves.”

They may say they don’t want to take their m.edication because it will make them less creative and/or less productive.

Another typical reason for a loved one not to want to take their m.edication is that they “just forget” to take it.

The biggest excuse, though, is the old, “I feel fine. I don’t need to take m.edication.”

After a few days or weeks many bipolar supporters to start to cave in and start to go along with their loved ones, and say something like, “Well, maybe you’re right – maybe you don’t need to take m.edication.”

Don’t fall for this!

I am going to have to scare you because the statistics for those who don’t take m.edication for bipolar disorder are VERY SCARY!

Now, I want to tell you ahead of time that I am NOT making this up. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) says that 20% of people with bipolar disorder who don’t take m.edication for it, or go off their m.edication, will kill themselves.

That’s 1 in 5 people!

Remember, I told you, I am not making this up.

NIMH is a national government organization!

So, the bottom line is, don’t let your loved one with bipolar disorder convince you he/she doesn’t need to take m.edication.

It is true there could be some side effects from m.edications but the worst effect one could experience would be DEATH from NOT taking m.edication for bipolar disorder.

With Bipolar Disorder, You MUST Avoid This

Hi,

How’s it going?

Well the Super Bowl was yesterday.

The Steelers won in case you care : )

It actually was a great game and right down to the end.

I ate a ton yesterday and I feel sick today. I had lots of bad carbohydrates.

I gave myself a free eating day so I had pizza, wings (chicken), chips and ice cream.

I really feel sick. Oh well it was fun while I was doing it.

Hey, so let’s jump into today’s topic. These days there’s a lot of doom and gloom.

You watch the news and you would think the world is going to end tomorrow or in a hour.

Well, it’s not.

My friend was really down and was getting depressed as we talked about everything.

I told him to avoid:

CATASTROPHIZING

Do you know what that means? Take a guess and then scroll down. According to psychcentral.com it is n irrational thought a lot of us have in believing that something is far worse than it actually is”

People with bipolar disorder and their supporters do this all the time.

It’s so common.

They make something big out of something small.

In my courses/systems, I talk about what the signs and symptoms of bipolar disorder are:

NEW
LEARN THE SECRETS OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?
http://www.bipolarsupporter.com/bipolarmastersystem/
SUPPORTING AN ADULT WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?

SUPPORTING A CHILD/TEEN WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.bipolarparenting.com

HAVE BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.survivebipolar.net

I also talk about how important it is for you, as a supporter, to know those signs and symptoms.

And it is, no doubt.

But catastrophizing would be like if you saw only one sign or symptom and then jumped to the conclusion that your loved one was in a major episode.

Do you see what I’m getting at?

Making some big thing out of a small thing.

Like a hypochondriac, who, say, was out exercising, maybe running a little bit, and runs out of breath, then starts complaining that they’re having a heart attack. You know those kinds of people, right?

Making something big out of something small.

That’s catastrophizing.

That’s what I want you to avoid.

I do want you to be vigilant in watching your loved one for signs and symptoms of a bipolar episode (that’s just a part of being a good supporter), but I don’t want you to catastrophize over it.

Just because they have one sign or symptom, or even two, doesn’t mean they’re going into an episode.

And watch yourself as well.

Just because you have the flu, doesn’t mean you have lung cancer.

Ok, I’m exaggerating a little bit there.

But you know what I mean.

Try to keep the right perspective, and you can avoid:

CATASTROPHIZING

I seriously want to ask, have you ever done this? If so, please post a story. It’s odd how our minds many times think the worst instead of the best.

Let me know.

Shocking, “I Miss My Bipolar Mania.”

Hi,

How it’s going today?

Today is the Super Bowl (big championship game in the USA for football)

I have to do some work and then I am going to a friends’ to eat and watch the game.

Before I take off, I wanted to tell you something important and shocking.

I’ve heard about and read so many scare stories of people with bipolar disorder who went off their medication just because they missed their “manic highs.”

Well, for one thing, they’re only thinking about themselves. They’re NOT thinking about family members or the other people they hurt when they’re in a manic episode.

They’re forgetting that mania isn’t always a “high” feeling, either.

Sometimes they can feel irritation, agitation, anxiety, anger, and even rage and violence.

They may miss all those times of what they perceive to be clear-headed thinking and great thoughts and ideas that nobody else has ever thought of before.

But, in reality, this is delusional thinking and grandiose thoughts. They are, simply, not in their right mind.

This causes them to make bad choices and poor decisions.

They may think it’s fun to go out on that shopping spree, spending all that money, but they don’t think of the consequences of empty bank accounts, maxed-out credit cards and possible financial ruin. In my courses/systems, I go over all the signs and symptoms of bipolar mania and a manic episode, including the things I just talked about:

One woman with bipolar disorder said:

“I had such incredible dreams and aspirations when I was manic. I, too, thought the world followed me though their eyes. I felt so attractive so sexy, so desired. I miss my mania”

(another symptom of mania can be risky sexual behavior)

Sometimes your loved one, in a manic episode, may act as if they’re driven by a motor – full of energy and drive, with less and less need for sleep.

They may talk frequently, rarely pausing between sentences, and their speech may be rapid as well.

Again, this is another sign of bipolar disorder, and a part of their manic energy.

They may resent you (and others) for not wanting to go along with their dreams, because they don’t understand that their dreams are grandiose and usually unrealistic.

Nobody is trying to steal your loved one’s dreams. When they are more stable, those dreams may (or may not) still be there. But dreams need to be approached in a more realistic way – with long-term and short-term reachable goals, etc.

Like the same woman in the beginning of this email (once she was stable) said:

“Now life is predictable, comfortable, and reliable, and I constantly search my soul for what my life’s true purpose is.”

Dreams are great, and they can possibly come true.

But there’s a difference between realistic dreams and manic grandiose thoughts and ideas.

And I’m sure you want them to be happy. But the “happiness” that comes with bipolar mania is NOT true happiness.

Stability is the most important thing in your loved one’s life.

That way, their dreams will be realistic ones.

Don’t you think?
