  1. i do believe that jail isnt for mentally ill people, they need to pay for the wrong they did but jail isnt the answer.More care and love prior to incident is needed,if its at all possible.

  2. Sometimes 1000 times more love than is deserved goes to the bipolor person and still they behave in ways that are not safe. Although it is a tragedy when a bipolar person is taken to jail, they also need to be held responsible for their behavior as adults (real adults – meaning multiple decades old !) When someone is hurting other people but can play a game and act different ways in front of different people, that is not bipolar but abuse. Yet, the article may be counting all the people who are abusive but also have bipolar disorder. It’s a fine line. I tried to get someone help and called the police to take them to the hospital and they ended up taking him to jail. It was never meant to be that way, but I also needed to protect my self and my child. I called the psychiatrist who hung up on me, the crises line and then the police. The mental health court is pathetic and gave him a choice as to whether he wanted to be a part of it – how does someone with lack of insight into how they behave make that decision? I know him through good and bad but the last 6 years have gotten worse each year. When he is on the proper medications he is ok, but he refuses to take the medications that help.
