  1. Treatments article is interesting.

By coincidence, it was my 3 month meeting with my psychiatrist today. She said the current view amongst her colleagues in the UK (and her’s) is that anti-depressants should no longer be prescribed to people with Bipolar Disorder, that she in particular is seeking only to use mood stabilisers. Of these, Lithium is the one she prescribes the most, although we agreed I should stick with Laprogine (for which I have an increased in dosage – 225 mg a day.)

She also got back results of a blood test she’d ordered for me. The good news was that there were no indications of any liver dysfunction caused by the meds. However, the random glucose level is a little too high and she test also showed evidence of a different kind of liver dysfunction …

Now THIS liver dysfunction is usually associated with too much booze. But I don’t drink! (Well, hardly … ) How about that?! I have a booze related liver problem without having had the pleasure of drinking the booze!!! Pah! Life just ain’t fair, is it!!!

  2. By the way, I have a problem with mood switching during the day. Sometimes there is a change through the day and sometimes it can happen within a minute. It’s not pleasant. Very tiring. Happy and exuberant one moment, tearful the next, sometimes just as fast as I’ve typed that sentence! My pDoc advised the mood stabilisers generally don’t have any effect on this problem, not directly…. which is a bit of a bummer!!! If anyone has experience of this and successful treatment for it, I’d be interested to hear of it at harryf200@yahoo.co.uk . Cheers!

  3. HI IM NEW TO THIS, NOT TO BIPOLAR BUT TO TALKING ABOUT IT. I WAS ONLY DIAGNOZED TWO WEEKS AGO. AND NOW AM ON EPILEM PLUS ZOLOFT. IHAVE BEEN ON ZOLOFT FOR YEARS BUT REALIZED MY MANNIA WAS OUT OF HAND. I AM 48 AND I HAVE MADE SUCH DREDFUL MISTAKES WITH MY LIFE. I HOPE TO SHARE WITH YOUNGER PEAPLE OR PARENTS TO UNDERSTAND. MY HUSBAND THINKS NOW IM ON MEDICATION EVERYTHING IS JUST FINE BUT HE JUST DOESNT GET THAT MY LIFE IS A DAY TO DAY JOURNEY AND ITS HARD. I DONT WANT PITY BUT I NEED TO BE LISTENED TO. MY MESSAGE TO GRAHAM IS YOUR DOCTER IS WRONG GO AND GET A SECOND OPINION. YOU DONT NEED TO PUT UP WITH THAT. SOMTIMES THEY SAY OH THAT IS NORMAL BECAUSE UNFORTUNATLY THEY JUST DONT KNOW. I AM NOT SAYING HE ISNT GOOD. SOMTIMES I FIND GOING ON A REAL BRISK WALK WITH HAPPY MUSIC PLAYING AND DOING A BIT OF A WORK OUT HELPS. THE ENDORPHINS START WORKING. DEB FROM ADELAIDE
