Your Friend,

  1. Thanks for the item about becoming obese due to Bipolar. I have put on 2 stone in 1 year since being diagnosed as Bipolar and started Lithium treatment. I also struggle with an eating disorder, so the weight-gain side-effect of my treatment is very upsetting. I am trying to walk every day, even when I don’t feel like leaving the house, and am also trying to stick to a healthy diet. The worst time is when I’m ‘high’ because then I binge eat – afterwards I feel awful because of my weight, and then the suicidal feelings kick in. It’s comforting to know that other people have the same problem, and the suggestions in the news item were very helpful. I will talk to my psychiatrist about it next time and see what can be done. Thanks for the article. Deborah

  2. Now that Britney is being “treated” inpatient for a change, maybe there will be hope for her and her condition. As the articles in the BipolarNews say, she WAS being treated outpatient, but failed to take her medication. Perhaps in an inpatient environment, she can be evaluated properly and forced, if need be, to conform to treatment for bipolar.

There’s no way a f** 72-hour evaluation will/can work for her in her current situation. She needs to be committed (involuntarily if need be), for proper tests to be performed. She does NOT need her syncophants to be around her at this time; no one has ever told Britney “No!”

Bipolar disorder is a mental illness. She’s been suffering long enough. Her handlers (manager, publicists, family, etc.) don’t want her to be labled “mentally ill,” because she would lose her fan base, and they would lose their “meal ticket.” It’s about time someone “woke up” and realized this poor girl needs HELP in a big way.

I, for one, am VERY glad she’s in a psychiatric ward. She won’t be happy; there’s no doubt about it. She will refuse treatment, and “act out” as far as she is allowed to get away with it. Speaking from experience, the above is what I tried to do during my first hospitalization. I hope the doctors will keep her there for as long as it takes for her to “come down,” and accept her diagnosis.

My heart goes out to her, and I pray that she gets the treatment she so desperately needs.

  3. Hi David: This is in regards to the hateful email you received that your emails don’t help, I was just thinking after I submitted my responses on how your emails have helped me that this person may have been a bi-polar having an episode and at the time you received this email from her she really didn’t feel like the info was helping her at that time. Maybe by now her episode is over and she may feel differently. I know I get accused of all kinds of things that I really don’t do whenever there is an episode going on in my house. Keep up the good work!

  4. The article about Bi-Polar making someone obese was particularly interesting since my son who is 21 is obese and Bi-Polar. He doesn’t get regular exercise and overeats as well as seeming to have a voracious appetite. He can get quite angry if he is challenged about eating so much. I think he gets satisfaction from food when often life is a series of continuous hurdles due to his Bi-Polar and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. It is hard to find medications that treat both disorders well and don’t add weight or increase appetite as well as decrease energy from being on the medications. Angela H
