  1. Church response to mental illness. How is one meant to differentiate a true reconnection with God through and a manic induced delusion of a connection with God? I had a girlfriend who was seriously manic depressive. When in mania she thought she had a direct hot line to God that that he’d given her (like so many others hospitalised before her) the task of saving the World. But when she switched back into the depressed state she said she was then aware of having been delusional about her job from God … So? How DO you tell the difference? A true relationship with God or an imaginary one?

  2. I have read an article by Marja Bergman where she (like others before her) claim Bipolar generates creativity. Frankly I don’t believe it. I think the creativity was there in the first place, that the effects of Bipolar allow her, and others like her, to tap into that creativity. In my opinion, that is dangerous IF you use the Bipolar to do that because that means you would be encouraging manic episodes rather than trying to suppress them with medication. Psychiatrists clearly advise that the frequency of BP episodes should be reduced because, with each only, the condition deteriorates overall. Untreated, BP 2 becomes BP 1. Partially treated is the same but the progress will be slower, one presumes. Moreover, scientists at Edinburgh University have shown that, with every episode of BP, part of the brain responsible for memory and cognition shrinks! Ergo, Bipolar episodes ain’t healthy, so encouraging even little ones for the sake of creativity can’t be healthy either.

But if, as I believe (and as some of my other creative ut controlled BP friends have shown) one’s innate creativity can be sourced WITHOUT relying on BP to source it! Surely doing that makes more sense!

  3. Dear David,
I’m responding re: credit card consolidation article. I’m entering into such a program this month. Was just too easy to put book clubs, presents for my grandchildren, and magazines, on the card. I now owe approx. $3500, and that figure may not include medical bills. I’m going thru a reputable company that I was referred to by my housing case mgr. I’ve been asking for lots of prayer, as I may have to do something w/my student loan, which I was denied being excused from, but I plan on appealing it. Thanks for being there for us.

  4. Church Response to mental illness – This article should be sent to every
pastor and counselor. I just wrote to my pastor about chemical and hormonal
imbalances and explained to him my experiences and asked for him and
his counselors to be educated on this subject. I stressed to him that it could
be life threatening if a person with imbalances was given the wrong advice.
I told him that I had some books and if needed I could check with my doctor’s
office for good books for them to read. People try to give you some advice
when they don’t really know why and what people with chemical imbalances
go through. They need to realize that the brain is a part of the body and something can be physically wrong with it just like any other part of the body.
Since the brain tells other parts of the body what to do and when it doesn’t
work correctly other parts do not function the way they should either.
I could go on and on about this subject because it is one that I feel
    strongly about.
Hopefully soon more people will talk about it so the general public will
    have some idea about it.

    Thank you.
    Doris Irwin
