My husband suffered a massive first time manic episode at the age of 48 last year; we’ve lost everything we built in a 23 marriage. He is convinced he has had a spiritual awakening (despite the fact that he has done the opposite of things spiritual during and since his first episode…followed by cycling in and out of several others). He gets very defensive and angry at the mention of BP or of mental health. He refuses help even tho three different Drs. (one in France, one in Hong Kong and one in Thailand} diagnosed him BP), he refuses meds refuses to even acknowledge any problem….at one point he was convinced he was Jesus Christ reborn….
I still love him but he abandoned me and our kids; I am the villain and he is enlightened….I so want to help him but I think now the only thing I can do is accept that the man I once loved is gone and help myself without him… Has anyone else had the experiaence of BP insisting they are spiritually enlightened and not BP?

Don’t really know what I expect but I find comfort in this site and knowing that I’m not the crazy one or alone in trying to be a supportive loved one…
