Bipolar Disorder? What’s Your Shoe Size?

Hi,

How’s it going?

I hope you’re doing well.

There’s an interesting thing with bipolar disorder.

It’s about medication.

Too many people think they can manage it themselves, without their doctors (psychiatrists).

They want to take less medication, or they want to take more medication.

Taking less medication is like wearing a size 10 shoe when you really need a size 12 shoe!

You can see how silly that would be. You wouldn’t do that, would you?

So you really can’t let your loved one mess around with their medication, either.

If they’re having problems with their medication, they really need to talk to their doctor about it.

They can’t just decide to mess around with it themselves.

That’s like I said above, like buying the wrong size shoe, or the wrong size clothes.

In my courses/systems below, I talk about how important taking your medication is, and in the right amounts, the right dosages, what to do if you feel that there’s something wrong with your medication, etc.

But I always say to check with your doctor if you feel there’s something wrong with the medication you’re taking.

It’s not like there’s nothing you can do if you’re unhappy with your medication, it’s side effects, the way you’re feeling or behaving, or whatever.

You can always talk to your doctor about it.

If you don’t trust your doctor, you need to get another doctor.

But messing around with your own medication is very, very dangerous.

If you don’t take enough, you could go into an episode.

If you take too much, you could DIE – you could have an overdose!

If you don’t like the way your medication makes you feel, you can tell your doctor, and they can change your medication.

They can change your dosage of the medication you’re on.

They can change when you take your medication.

They can do several things that maybe you haven’t even thought about.

But just don’t – DO NOT – mess with your own medication by yourself.

  1. my duaghter is 16 and she was on lamictol for the past 5 wks but her epicodes were not emproving infact thay were getting worse yesterday we saw her docter and now she geodon and he said she is bipolar.now what?

  2. I have had bipolor for years and the one thing that I do know is that it takes about at least 2 weeks to start to have some kind of effect. And side effects are part of the deal. I am at the same place. My body gets use to the drugs and then they dont work. So I went to shock treatments and they help but the side affects are for a life time. (no memory). It is just a part of being bipolor. Sorry for not having better news. I hope you can find what works. take care Della

  3. My adult friend had been taking Effexor for years, for the past year he was on two 75 mg pills a day. If he doesn’t take it he gets dizzy spells and headaches. He decided to gradually stop taking the medicene, due to the fact he does not have health insurance and they wanted to double the price of the office visits and demand that their patients see him more frequently. Frankly it is unaffordable and is a shame that people can’t get help because doctors are so greedy and ask for double the money for the visits and expect them to go more frequently. Sometimes when your a size 12 shoe, the only thing you can afford is a size 10 with the economy nowadays.

  4. my brother is bi-polar. He messed with his meds, forgot doctor appts. and went into an episode. It took him, his doctors, his wife and kids five monthes to get him back on track. It was scary. He became another person. The doctors say they don’t think I’m bipolar but it does run in families. I have two sisters and two brothers. We ALL have anxiety disorders, agoraphobia and one brother has been diagnosed bi-polar. The oldest brother died twenty years ago but when I think back on his actions he was definatly bi-polar. He handled it with whiskey. My oldest sister seems to be in a perpetual state of manic. she doesn’t take her meds right and she drinks alcohol. The alcohol seems to calm down the mania part but it still is not good or right. As someone who has to cope with mental issues I can say it is so hard. If you have a good day, people think your better and start pounding you with (normal) requests. They think your all better when in reality you may just be hanging on. If you were in a wheel chair people would be much more sympathetic, but because it is your mind, moods, fears, and emotions people pull away. I’v been on this road for forty+ years and everyday I wake up hoping today will be ok. Sometimes it is, most times it is not……Kathy

  5. Kathy, I know what you mean. My nephew has bipolor and a lot of other major issues and part of my family just told him to snap out of it. Granted he did need more disapline growing up than he got but he does have major problems now. And now his Mom is being tested and I have had it for many years. We come from an abusive home so I know that I have spent my whole life depressed in one form or another. And I am sure bipolor is part of that depression. Back then there was not much heard about bipolor. By the way I am 47 and I have just had to be on social security because of the bipolor and the depression. It has been really hard to deal with and really hard to accept. Good Luck.

  6. A lot of people don’t understand Bi-polar. When I try to explain it to people they always say “Well I wouldn’t take that from anyone” They don’t realize that out loved ones become different people when they are having an episode. And when it is over our person comes back. I guess you have to live with it and deal with it before you understand. My loved one is finally on meds and it is going a lot better. I haven’t seen that “other guy” he becomes for quite a while. I hope he never comes back but if he does I will wait for my guy to come back.

  7. Little one you Know NOTHING. wHAT YOU “KNOW” i COULD WRITE ON A pOSTAGE STAMP.
i HAVE NOT TAKEN “MEDICATION” IN 3 YEARS. wHY, BEACAUSE I AM FAR WORSE ON THE “MEDICATION.”

ALSO IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. READ OTHER MAIL.

JACKASS WHY DON’T YOU POST MY INSIGHT?

THAT’S IT THERE IS NO FROODOM IN THE USA!

  8. BiPolar “disorder”.

I had never a problem then I met the lowlife organism known to some as the psychiatrist. 8 years later I am still in a state worse than death.

Yes Medical induced Brain dammage she calls it “BiPolar”. An “illness” Conjured by Freaud or some other inept FOOL! Yes the “symptoms” list changes to suit the psyc. SAD! The “symptoms list” removes all of our rights! We are NOTHING! I have been told symptoms that are contradictory?

The sworn Duity of the psyc organism is to Ruin lives & Families. Otherwise they make the tits on the Bull look useful at there peak. There all insane, many sadly are Criminaly insane. And I believe you R one, well you have no brain for a start, and you have a great DELUSION!

I believe the psychiatrist is the WHOLE problem remove & treat them, yes they are very sick.

Studies PROVE these Worthless organisms make BiPolar WORSE!(it is there Duity)

Remove these creeps. The Money saved on there pay and upkeep should go to ending Poverty, homlessness….. Thus improving the Worlds Mental Health!

I have assessed over 12 of these inept fools, NONE are or any use whatsoever. The lot Worthless, no worse they inflame all situations. Then they Kill your Mind. They are NOT WORTHY, they are the lowest form of scum on Earth.

The “medication” does the opp of what it is stated to do. Hence Lilly are in Court for lying. I feel FAR worse on the “meds.” The Judge tells me not to speak if I had had a dose within 48 hours. The “medication” “treatment” is far worse than the “disease.” As aformentioned I had a Great Life before, NOW I have NO Life Nowhere!

PLEASE LET US TREAT THESE INEPT FOOLS!

ON “MEDICATION”I need my Vital organs tested Monthly. No they don’t test the Rotting Brain. IT IS MENT TO DIE, THAT IS WHAT THE “MEDS” R FOR. MY IQ HAS FALLEN TO 133 THAT IS TERRIBLE. HAVE THEY MADE ME A LEFT BRAINED MORON? IT’S NOT FUNNY.

NO Quack will test the “meds” Why if it is so good? If it did 1/2 of what they say, we would want to take it. THEY SHOULD USE THE CRAP THEY COULD NOT BE ANY MORE BRAINLESS? THEY HAVE BEEN TO UNIVERSITY!

    WHAT DO YOU DO DAVO?

Do you want to know the Truth about the “mental health system?”

  9. I read about bi-polar and am now a bit confused. My son was diagnosed with bipolar a few years ago by a doctor in Florida.
He is now seeing a psycologist who claims that he does NOT have bipolar.
All the symptons I am reading about is how he behaves.
He abused his medication and alcohol and also had Red Bull. A dangerous combination which caused him to go into coma for a few days. Now he is out of coma but the complications are liver shut down, kidneys shut down, red blood cells went way down, brain damage and muscles shut down.
Thanks God he survived after 9 days in intensive care and now has blood, liver under control. Doctors said that his kidneys seems to respond too. But he has a terrible memory loss and need to start all over learning how to walk with a physical therapist. His mind is that of a child but doctors say that he should be back to normal in about 3 to 4 months.
It has been scary, and I need everyone to know that it is very dangerous to let your loved ones care for themselves with medication and alcohol.
If you have a loved one with these symptoms please supervise their dosage and take the situation seriously before it is too late.
I am lucky that my son is alive, doctors and hospital attendants are saying that it is a miracle that he is alive.
PLEASE KEEP ALCOHOL AND RED BULL OUT OF THE LIVES OF DEPRESSED PERSONS OR PERSONS WITH BI POLAR.
