Bipolar disorder lesson continued from yesterday

=>PLEASE FORWARD TO FRIENDS, FAMILY AND LOVED ONES <=
Hi,

How’s it going?

Thanks for all the emails from everyone
happy that I was okay from my almost
car crash last night.

I have to go to New York City today
for a meeting that will last all
day.

A bunch of people wrote how
they felt that thinking about
something bad happen was negative.

It is negative but what is more
negative is NOT planning and
then a total night mare happening.

I have to make this really quick
because it’s a long drive there
and there will probably be traffic.

Before I left, I wanted to point out
a post on my blog which is a good
idea for everyone to follow:

I was in an accident a year and a half ago
that I had to be taken to a major hospital
by helicopter. I am bipolar, and my girls are
also.

When we were being initially treated by
E.M.T.s I was frantic to have someone write
down their meds, and doses. (One of my daughters
went toxic on lithium because of a mistake before
this).

They wanted me to calm down, and knew my
hubbie was on his way, and said they would get
that from him, they were more worried about me,
the girls were just bruised. I freaked because
I knew that only I knew the info, and he wouldn’t
even know where to start. I got someone to write
it down finally, but started to go into shock,
and had a hard time remembering my own meds.

I now have binders, one for each of us with
phone #’s, med names, doses, even ones previously
taken and didn’t work, or bad reaction. Recent
bloodwork, dr notes, diagnoses, allergies,
physicals, etc. I take it with me for dr visits,
and it makes my life easier, and gives me piece
of mind for in case of emergency.

This is a great suggestion. You should do
this. It was so well said, that I simply
wanted to share the post.

I have many interviews with people that
point out how much of a disaster it
is when you don’t have all this info
in one place and medical people have
to guess in an emergency.

Don’t let it happen to you. TAKE ACTION
TODAY! Get all this stuff together.
It won’t take you that much time. But
do it today. Don’t put it off otherwise
you’ll be sorry later.

Hey, I just looked at the clock, I have
to go.

Have a great day and I will catch you tomorrow.

Your Friend,

Dave

  1. Great advice Dave!
It is essential to plan ahead when you’re dealing with bipolar.
I don’t view it as being negative, rather pro-active. I deeply regret not being more pro-active.
    And I’m glad you’re ok!

  2. Sometimes a close call is the reality check that makes us put our papers in order. It’s true that you need to plan ahead. Bipolar or not! I am a bipolar supporter for my daughter who is about to turn 21. I am always there to help her with the bills and medical and things she needs help for, but we are trying to get her to be more independant. I’m about to have a minor procedure and it requires an overnight stay at a hospital. My daughters will have a chance to pick ME up and take care of me. I think it’s a good thing for them, but I know they are a little worried. We’ll all be fine, but it’s something out of their comfort level.

  3. Great suggestion. I would add to make a copy with diagnoses and meds and put a copy in the glove compartment and purse. I have one I run off for hospital trips; new doctors that makes life a lot easier. Recently with the rough winter we’ve had I’ve made copies to have in car, my purse, my work bag, my swimsuit bag, my desk… if we’re unconscious we need that critical information in as many places as possible.. thanks for the reminder to DO IT !!
