Hi,

How’s it going?

Today I wanted to send a simple email
about some announcements about bipolar
disorder.

I actually have to take off pretty quick
because I have to figure out how to
get out of my driveway.

We have 4 inches of solid
ice on the roads. I don’t even
know how I am going to drive today.
But I have to because I have places to go
and people to see 🙂

Here are the announcements:

1. I have put together an article on having
a low cost fun Christmas. I also have an
audio recording that I am sending out. It
has REALLY important information on
how to have a good Christmas. There are
a number people on my list struggling
on my list that don’t feel they can have a
good Christmas because of financial problems.

This article and audio recording will be
sent out tomorrow. Andrea was going to
post it today but it’s her son’s birthday
and she doesn’t have time. I’ll have her
get it up tomorrow.

2. Yesterday was the day angry emails, a
few angry posts and angry phone calls. I know
in December I get a spike in hate mail,
death threats and people all mad at me. Why?
Well I think that when seasons change,
holiday stress comes and unstable people aren’t
doing well, they take it out on me. It’s
happen EVERY year since I started.

A person who has bipolar disorder who works
for me asked, “Don’t you get sick and tired
of hearing this type of stuff in December
every year?” I said, “yea I do and it’s annoying
but I realize the people doing this stuff
are sick and not really in their right mind
or not thinking clearly.”

So I just ignore all of this.

3. New program coming.

I want to tell you about a new program
that I talked about in November. But it
addresses one angry post I saw yesterday.

It said:

“Every piece of email I receive from this
Bipolar Supporter stuff starts talking about
money and asking if I would pass up a doctor
who costs more for someone who is incompetent
but charges less.

I am on Social Security Disability and have one
of the lowest levels of income…. below federal
poverty level. I have NO money!

This woman is mad at me. Why? I think because
yesterday I sent a daily email that basically
said, many people “get what they pay for
when it comes to doctors.” I was encouraging
people to shop for doctors and work with
doctors that know what they are doing when it
comes to their situation with bipolar disorder
as opposed to just jumping at the first
one that is a “deal.”

Anyway the person who wrote me is
mad obviously. I believe because of what I said
in my email. If I am guessing, she feels she
can’t afford a “Good” doctor and that my
advice is not for people like her. It is
for sure. She obviously has financial problems.
There are so many things that I could write
about what I think she could do to afford
treatment. I believe she is way off track.

I wanted to remind her and all the other
people on my list that I am going to be launching
a new program on how to get free and low cost
medication and treatment for bipolar disorder.

I, along with 7 other people, have been working hard
on this program for a while now. There’s going
to be a pilot program launched soon to test out
any bugs and then a full roll out to everyone
on my list. This program will be totally free
and paid for but yours truly.

Why isn’t it ready now? I don’t think some people
realize but I am NOT a drug company with billions
of dollars in my bank account and a staff of 1000
people waiting to work on projects. ALL these projects
are paid for by ME out of my own pocket and we have
up to 17 or so people who can work on things at any
one time. BUT there are a lot of projects that require
time and money. I have gotten zero grants and no
donations. I am not saying that for you to feel sorry
for me but so you know the deal.

Right now, I have 15 projects in development which
I think is pretty darn good. We have a great team
that works really hard. I think 80% of our team
has a mental illness or at least one. Some have
many. This is the reason we can get a lot done. Why?
The people who work for me are great problem solvers
so they can get like 3 to 4 times what a regular
person can get done in the same time frame. They
spend little time figuring stuff out and more time
doing things.

BUT, every day I have to decide what projects will be
worked on. Which projects will get what money.
The low cost and affordable treatment for bipolar
disorder is a top priority. And I will be making
this totally free. It will be for anyone and everyone.

So the next time you want to send me an angry
email or complain that I haven’t come out with this
or that fast enough, reread what I wrote and realize
how much we have done so far and also we only
have so much time and resources to get things done.
We all work as fast and as hard as possible.

As it stands now everyone that works for me
is working right up to Christmas and the day
after Christmas. At least 50% of the people
who work for me are working on Christmas
to get things done. Do I want you to feel
bad for me? NO. But I want to cut down
on the complaints on why projects aren’t
done faster.

3. I have a new guide coming out on how to
lose weight faster if you have bipolar disorder.
I have actually lost 60 pounds myself and kept
it off for 8 years. I have taught tons of people
my system.

I know with so many people with bipolar disorder,
their weight is a big problem. I want to help.

I have been working on this new guide for some
time as well. I am actually going to send it out to 75
people for free. (Warning-There’s over 160,000 people
who signed up for my list)

All they have to do is pay the shipping. It
will be like a free review trial. ALL details will
be explained Friday Morning at 9:00am EST. Also the first
25 people who respond get a free consultation
from me on how to lose weight faster and keep
it off (which I am an expert on). I will call you and
even pay for the phone call.

The first 3 people to respond will get a free
vacation certificate as well. As you might know, I have
a number of businesses. I am able to get vacation
certificates for a bunch of places in the US.
I will be giving away 3 vacation certificates
to the first 3 people to take me up on my free
trial.

Mark your calendar the December 21, 2007 at 10:00am.
You should go to www.bipolarcentral.com/weightloss

NOTE-This site doesn’t work now but it will
on that date. Just make a note of the site.

Actually Michele Soloway has used the program
and lost weight.

4. I will be hiring more new people for
a few new positions. Keep your eyes open
for an announcement over the next coming weeks.

5. For some reason I have had a bunch of people
ask about coming to my office to take a look
at my stuff. One guy posted that he wanted to
get one of my programs below:

SUPPORTING AN ADULT WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.bipolarsupporter.com/report11

SUPPORTING A CHILD/TEEN WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.bipolarparenting.com

HAVE BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Visit:
http://www.survivebipolar.net

But wanted to know where he could go
to talk about it if he was unhappy with
the material. I think the person was
being a “wise guy.”

There is NO office people can come
and visit. Why? Can you imagine if
I had to staff a 24 hour a day or even
a 9 hour day office where people could
come by? Imagine the security costs.

For some reason I don’t think a lot of
people understand the economics of things.
If you have a big office with security
which you’re going to have to hire, that’s
going to take money away from research and
development. So you would wind up spending
more on the office and it’s overhead than
anything else. That makes no sense.

It’s like there was a support group
I USE to go to. There was like 8 to 11 people
there. It was great. They had okay speakers
and great food. Why were their so few people
there? They had ZERO dollars for a marketing
budget. They were more concerned with food
and handouts than they were in great
speakers and having a 100 people in attendance.
They did NO marketing because they spent all
their money on food. Can you believe that?????

Whenever I complained that they needed
to market themselves better to get more people
their, I heard, “We don’t have the money or
the budget.” I would say, “Well let’s cut the
fancy handouts out and stop serving food.”

They never did. Now they don’t exist. Why?
Someone reviewed the program and felt it
helped too few people. Is this insane or
what.

Everyday I have to make decisions based on
the longevity of this organization and reaching
and helping the most people. Having a office you
can come by and hang out in is not going to happen.
It doesn’t make any financial sense at all.
If that makes you mad, sorry.

Well I have to take off. I know for sure I’ll
get a lot of hate mail because of some of things
I wrote but oh well.

Have a great day.

Your Friend,

Dave

  1. But Dave !!!
Did you get some boots ??? We MUST know !!! Actually there are a couple places that sell these wrap on your shoes spikes perfect for this icy crap. Roaman’s Healthcare products is one.. 1-800-474-5624; I’m not seeing web site info, but am betting they have one. Not sure how good a quality they are; but there are several variations of this. And with the kind of weather most of the USA is getting; perhaps we all need these !!

Thank you Dave for all the work you do, thank you, thank you.

  2. Dave,
December truely is a nightmare for supporters. I’m getting death threats and hate mail from my boyfriend and I’m afraid he may actually destroy me this time…and himself. Knowing he’s “ill” is cold comfort. Please help me stay sane!!

  3. Sorry for all the nasty e-mails you get. I am thankful to have your advise anf help of any kind. I live with a husband and son both bipolar…One is on the way to check himself in at the hospital. Need I say how I have been treated the last week! Antway. Tnank you for all and any help. I too am low income and struggling.

  4. Dave,
I have been visiting your site for quite awhile. I have information regarding securement of medications for non-insured or underinsured or ones who can not afford co-pays. I am an ADRN-Purdue University graduate and BSN student in Community Health at Purdue University. I would enjoy sharing this vital information. Let me know if I can be of assistance to your cause.
    Thank you,
    E. Field

  5. Dave,
THANK YOU for all that you do. You are a God-send for many people.

Have a blessed Christmas and New Year! Our family is praying for you and your outreach for all those who struggle with bipolar.

    The Harburg Family

  6. Dave:
I just read that you are going to be hiring new people for your staff and I would certainly like to be considered for one of those positions . I have had Bipolar Disorder for 10 years and have had it under control for almost a year. I was just diagnosed 2 years ago and it took that long for the meds to finally kick in and work to their fullest potential. I now go to school and work, but am looking for something else to do. Would be greatly interested in what you have to offer. I too am low-income and struggling. I wish you and your’s
a Blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year.
    Teri E.
P.S. I am sorry for all the hate mail you get at this time of the year.

  7. Sorry, for your bad emails and hate emails. I am not bipolar but my deceased father was. I still follow your website because the hurt from bipolar never goes away, not even in death. Thank you for all you do for us. My best friend’s boyfriend is also bipolar & I try to be a help to her through your information. Thank you again.

  8. The woman that complained was complaining about the lack of funds to purchase even one of your courses. You got too full of yourself and your programs. You should’ve taken the blog in context of the original blog about me trying to get a refund for your book on jobs at home that wasn’t worth the $10 in shipping. Your monry back guarantee doesn’t seem to apply. I am bipolar and want a refund for this quasi-term paper. I’ve called, written emails and blogs and have gotten not one iota of a response. This is not a good way to do business. I’m sure hte credit card company will not be as elusive when I contact them. Sincerely John Copple

  9. Can Someone help?
My fiance and I had a great relationship, she became pregnant and we were both very happy. The day she found out she stopped taking her meds. Within one week I noticed her getting cold and indifferent toward me. Within two weeks she has said she never wants to see me again or let me have any thing to do with the baby. I have no contact with her now, it has been 7 weeks, could bipolar cause this? What should I do? It,s as if I’m dealing with two different people.

  10. Dave

Hang in there please. I know people like you, who stick their neck out to help their fellow man, usually get a lot a hate mail. It is unfortuanate, but these people seem to have way too much time on their hands.
I am as guilty, as the next guy, in not praising those who help, often enough.

Today I thought I would make the time to tell you whay a tremendious help you have been to me. I thank the Creater for leading me to your site. I have Bipola as well as Spinal Nerve Damage, a heart condition and CPOD. My Caregiver is wonderful, except seems to think of Bipola as something very low on the list and cureable.
I just wanted you to know you are helping me. I am in a home, Disabled, and very little income. However I don’t blame you. I don’t blame anyone. Shit just naturally happens.

I hope just one big hug from a very grateful fan can help offset all the hate mail you receive.

May the Creater look over you and help in all your endevors.

    Jaye Sevenhawks
    jayesevenhawks@yahoo.com

  11. Dave,
I just wanted to let you know I think you are doing a great job! More people need to be educated on Bipolar. I am Bipolar, and also a supporter. Half of my family thinks that me and my sister that also has other mental illnesses are faking it! I just wanted to let you know I have ran into a few irrational people this holiday season also, and I don’t think they were Bipolar. I also work on the internet and have received an abundance of strange responses in my business. I hope this makes you feel better about the hatemail you are receiveing. Keep up the great work!

  12. IMPORTANT NOTICE

I hate to have to be a downer today but I have gotten a number of serious threats and stupid posts from “someone.”

I am pretty confident I know who this “someone” is. This person I believe it reading my blog and I believe is able to understand what’s going on. This person is not
    incoherent.

    TO THIS PERSON:

If you keep making threats you’re going to get into a whole lot of trouble because every email, post and phone call you make is logged and believe me, the authorities take these things seriously regardless of if you have a mental illness or not.

You will find yourself in a whole
    bunch of trouble.

I am urging you to stop this stuff TODAY.

    Dave

  13. Hi Dave

Im a bipolar supporter for one year and a half and i feel so tired. He is 43 and is a man that never accept help, he always think that i want control him, but the only thing that i want is that he take the medication. In adittion he has troubles with alcohol, this month he went out for two weeks, crash his step mom’s car and the go back like nothing happend…i want quit, he want marry me this year but im thinking seriously. Every time when he do things like this and he never accept help, make me think that my life could be a hell, if he realize that he need help, maybe everything were so diferent….please i need and advise from you.

    Cynthia

  14. To John,

First I would like to say, I don’t really appreciate what you are posting and emailing daily.

There is NO record of you returning anything that you have ever ordered from me. All I have is posts/emails complaining with no last name.

The people who handle customer service are great people who work VERY hard at their job. They log EVERY thing and are super detailed.

Now that I finally have your last name, I was able to find you. Heather is going to issue a refund for EVERY SINGLE thing that you have ever gotten from me including shipping and handling. This will be done with 24 hours.

You also will be removed from all my mailings lists and never hear from me again.

    Good luck.

    Dave

P.S. Feel free to contact your credit card company as well, I have no problem with that.

  15. Cynthia —
A frog is a frog is a frog. DO NOT think that because you marry this man things will change… they WILL get worse and at some point, if it hasn’t already, his abuse will be directed at you AND any children you have now or in the future. RUN, don’t walk AWAY, please.

This man needs at least a year of alcohol and drug treatment; then a full assessment, medication, etc. etc. More than anything he needs to look in the mirror and see himself.. until that happens, you are at risk.

Please call your local domestic abuse or battered women’s shelter… emotionally battering is every bit as destructive as physical.

And, i AM a fully credentialed psychotherapist with a focus in domestic abuse. I’ve done research and group therapy with these guys for going on 13 years. Please be safe
    Betsy

  16. Danodavisir– please call her obstetrician first thing tomorrow. As we all know, an unmedicated bipolar man or woman can be dangerous to themselves or others.. even more so with a woman experiencing the hormonal fluxes of pregnancy. Protect your baby.

Sue Ellen – i’ve been to canada several times for alternative medicine treatment… that particular branch of medicine is exceptional and they are masters at cutting red tape.. if you can find a referral to someone who’s an MD, as well as any form of alternative medicine, they might be of help.

    Erin – Bless you !!!

Jods – be safe !!! Find your local battered women’s shelter, call them immediately. Someone with abusive tendencies that’s bipolar really can kill you at some point. (and see my reply to Cynthia)

Dave – it really is horrible you have to deal with death threats, or any kind of threat. Most of us are very grateful for the TONS of information you gift us with that’s free. As a professional, I am so impressed with how you ride the line WITHOUT trying to be a therapist or lawyer.. tis not an easy thing !! You are such a gift. I can’t believe it’s been a year since my daughter crashed intoi some combination of cocaine poisoning/psychosis and bipolar hell. Her “bad” drugs use is much better, and she finally seems to be accepting that her “natural” way of dealing with bipolar isn’t working so i’m hopeful for the new year. But lordy it’s hard to see such a beautiful, intelligent young lady so broken and DAMN the bottom feeders somehow have sonar that links them to troubled women.

Christmas.. sigh. I’m reclaiming Christmas. Dang it i LIKE the holiday… making cookies with my daughters who even at the ages of 29 and 30 still love to make holiday cookies. A few twinkly lights are so magical at night. Scented candles and hot chocolate.. mmmmmm the finer things in life !! And, thank g’ness it will be all over with in 9 days !!!

ok.. my turn. I am TERRIFIED at leaving my 29 year old alone here in WI to go have a calm christmas with my 30 yr old in MN; especially when this is the one year anniversary of her crash which was followed by 30 days of hell in the state mental hospital.

I’ve tried to talk her into coming and staying in the hotel, partaking of as little or much as she wants to.. there is an all day christmas hangout christmas eve followed by church services that is the routine of 30 yr old daughter’s b’friend’s family.

AND they’re all well behaved because there are “strangers” in the house !!!

Bipolar daughter (off medication) is adamant she’s staying here… and kind of planning a trip to the hospital around Christmas. Her doctor won’t do the paperwork, which means presenting at the ER as a “danger to self or others” so that they’re mandated to take her which also means 24 hours in isolation… and we’re talking prison cell.. absolutely NOTHING on walls.

    Suggestions ?

  17. Dear Mr.Oliver, I would love to start out by saying to you how much you have helped me out by you having your website. Thank you for taking the time, hours, weeks, months and years getting all of the information you have on bipolar. I wish i had this information when my two son’s were little. They are now 20 & 17 years old. Mike is the oldest and Dan is the youngest. Mike lives in an apartment and Dan lives with his dad in a house. People should not judge you and send you hate e-mail. I know everybody has their own opinion but you are giving free advice. They can take it or leave it. You are not judgeing them because they are disabled or don’t have enought money. When you go to your main website you can get all their is to know about bipolar. Mr. Oliver don’t worry about what people think just know in your heart you really are helping out alot of people in this cold cruel world. I would love to thank you and everybody very much for getting all of the information, putting in order, setting up the website, e-mailing me everyday and answering all of my questions. Thanking you for being their me. Sincerly yours, Kitten

  18. Hi Dave, so sorry the holidays are bringing out the creepy side of peoples, please stay safe, so many of us need you! I’ve taken your advice on keeping our holidays simple and reducing stress and spoke to my daughter about it. She had been having trouble at work and last night quit (Along with her boyfriend and his best friend, in protest of what the boss did). They had cut her shifts to 2 or less a week and the owner told her it was because of her “Emotional Problem” She couldn’t give her any examples of times it caused a problem at work, but my daughter had told her in confidence about her bipolar after her last ER visit (Back in Sept)that took 2 days to get in and out of. (until they gave the ONLY med that has helped her, ever. Now my daughter is considering legal action agaist her employer, but asked me what I thought. I really don’t know! I wonder how she’ll handle the stress, but in the past she has been very focused when she needs/wants something very badly. She is going to call her therapist to discuss this tomorrow, but I’d like any other opinions. Thanks!

  19. What HATE mail??!! I want this to be a LOVE LETTER to you, Dave, for all the research, development, and HARD work you’ve put into Bipolarcentral for all of us bipolar survivors AND supporters! If the people writing hate mail would just stop and think, and take their blinders off, they would see it, as well as feel it. You have been such an INSPIRATION to me and I’m sure others. You have afforded me a place to express my opinions and, hopefully, be a blessing to others suffering the same illness. I will be eternally GRATEFUL that I found your site BEFORE all the others out there who APPEAR to offer what you do in such abundance. Just keep up the VERY good work, and don’t get discouraged when others don’t understand the restrictions you are under. I, for one, look forward to the new worksheets you’re offering, especially low-cost meds and therapists – now THAT would be worth its weight in gold…

I hope you and your Mother, Father and brother (if he’s still on the scene), a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and
    SUCCESSFUL NEW YEAR.

BIG HUGS to all bipolar survivors and those who love them. My prayers are with you. Stay sane…

  22. Happy Holidays Dave!!
Just wanted to tell you that I think you do an amazing job. I haven’t bought your program yet but I’ve been reading the daily emails and you are so right about everything you say. My 17 year old daughter has been struggling with bipolar for the past 7 years and up until this year, it has literally been hell in our home. She’s been hospitalized so many times that I’ve lost count. She was even sent to a residential program for a year (that turned out to be a nightmare). This illness has ruined her life! She’s finally on a medication as of this past April, and the old funny, sweet, loving, enjoyable child I once knew is back…. but so many years of hell really changed everything that was going on so well in her life. (Long story…. let’s just say she was an extremely intelligent, determined, wise beyond her years, and amazingly gifted and talented child.) She was enjoying life to it’s fullest until this illness suddenly hit at full force in early adolescence. I HATE this illness and I HATE that it took so long for the professionals to figure out what was going on with her. It took away all her self esteem and I am now working on building her back up to where she used to be as a younger girl. Sometimes it seems we’ll never be back to where we were…. but she seems to now be trying at least. It sucks that so many people (relatives) couldn’t see this as an illness…. instead of just a child behaving horribly nightmarish. Now they see it…. since we finally have her on the right medication. But so many years were hell to her. I’ve never given up though. I just wanted to tell you Dave that I can really relate to everything you say.

  23. I’m pretty pleased to find this site. I want to to thank you for ones time due to this wonderful read!! I definitely appreciated every little bit of it and i also have you saved to fav to see new things on your site. I wanted to tell you, I bookmarked 5 Announcements about Bipolar Disorder at Buzzfeed so my friends can read it also. Could I also reveal a word of advice. Getting excellent video marketing could well be extremely tough. I find it most constructive to talk with a a video production professional. Our staff of Video Marketing specilaists are here to assist with all of your video recording and advertising specifications.
