My daughter has been diagnosed with Bipolar and had she been diagnosed at a younger age we would not of had so much trouble with her and we would of understood more. Candy

God Bless You!
Hi my name is shiena/mary offline, anyhow in response to your post…
My daughter has borderline also. She is 21 yrs old now and has
struggled with this all her life I believe. She too is a cutter…a
pretty bad cutter. It kills me inside to know this and not quite
understand – even reading sooooooo much about the disorder. Here’s
what I know from our experience… The more stress going on in her
life and around her the more likely the cutting will happen and
usually more extreme during these times. I pray she is on medication
and if not please please let her know there is meds that will help her
to control things and make her feel more “normal” that’s how my
daughter explains it.Along with the meds she should also have a
couselor to talk with. They can evaluate her current mood patterns and
wether the meds are working. Please know this has nothing to do with
you personally and it is probably from some extreme dramatic situation
in her past. My daughters is linked to her father and I and the
divorce we put them (I have a son too) through.
Now for you… yes YOU! You have taken on a major role now in her
care taking. Along with what I’ve already told you- you need to start
reading everything you can on the disorder!!! She is going to go into
manic episodes possibly going on shopping sprees plummeting you into
severe debt, unplanned trips, even sleeping around. It all depends on
her personality what might happen. This is why you MUST get her on
meds and set up a plan of action for when it happens. Yes
unfortunately even with the meds it can happen when she becomes used
to them. The responsibility on your part is VITAL to her and very HARD
on you! God Bless You! Your going to need His help to get through this
lifetime disorder.A stable daily schedual for her will make her feel
more in control. I recieve e-mails from a man who took care of his
mother after a terrible upbringing and a insain household. He has
written many courses on the topic and honestly he KNOWS what he’s
talking about. He’s not a doctor but a loving son who put yrs. and
yrs. into finding and figuring out this info. I suggest going to his
site…

and checking it out there is alot of awsome information there. Even if
you can not afford the course sign up for his weekly e-mails he hits
on alot of great topics!
So Becka…
My heart is with you as a supporter! It is a very frustrating roll to
take. Forgive all the negatives I’ve listed here but I found out the
hard way and a heads-up would of been nice for me! Remember to take
care of YOU too! If you don’t her only or main supporter wont be there
for her! Excercise works well for me! You can take her with you it
will help her too getting rid of alot of negatives that build up!!!
God Bless you both!

Depression makes us strong and successful? Depression is good for us? What is that professor trying to prove? He obviously does not have bipolar disorder or clinical depression nor does he really know anyone who has. How did he become a psychiatric professor if he has no empathy at all? Yes, it’s true that every human being gets depressed occasionally. We have all been there. We all have emotions and feel sad over the loss of a loved one or may get depressed when things don’t work out the way we had hoped. However, we usually have a reason for feeling down and rarely, if at all, experience the hopelessness and suicidal thoughts someone in a bipolar depression can feel. To “embrace their miserable side” does not change their lives for the better, in fact it could end their lives. Not prescribing meds for bipolar or clinical depression can put people’s lives in danger. While it is true that most people with bipolar are very creative, the creativity is usually done during hypomania when people feel increased energy and enthusiam. When they are depressed, they have little or no enthusiasm for anything and may not even bother getting up for days. They usually feel worthless and hopeless and shut themselves away from the world. I am not a doctor or a therapist, but I have observed the bipolar moods in my boyfriend, my ex-husband and a couple of other people. I find it hard to believe that professors and psychiatrists would compose such an article as this.
