  1. I loved the story about the blind men and the elephant. It’s a good comparison with bipolar disorder and its different symptoms and how people see it from different angles.
    .
The article about violence and drugs. In my observation people with bipolar are not generally violent. However, a manic episode can bring out a lot of anger and enhances strong emotions. If someone by nature has a tendency to violent behaviour, they are likely to get worse during a bipolar episode. Most people with bipolar maybe verbally threatening but don’t put it into practice. I wouldn’t take chances though. If someone gets to the point of threatening, s/he is usually at the stage of needing professional help. Some schizophrenics are more often violent following the voices in their heads.

  2. To NIGHTLADY – I’ve been following your posts ever since the first one you made, and you are one INTELLIGENT woman. Keep on keeping on with your boyfriend who is bipolar; seems to me you care about him a LOT…Thanks soo MUCH for the information and help you gave in your explanation of how to get my kitty to “take his medicine!” However, I called the vet for some ideas, and she said to put it in cream cheese! Well, even getting Tinker to open his mouth – even for an instant – is dangerous. The vet volunteered that I could bring Tinker in for an injection…she said it was “pricey,” but ANYTHING that could be done to alleviate all the guilt, anger, AND frustration about getting the antibiotic down Tinker’s throat, was welcome…on Friday, he got his shot, and I’ve seen a noticeable improvement. Wonder if the vet thought I couldn’t afford a shot at the beginning or what. NOTHING is to “expensive” when it comes to my boy’s health. Normally, I couldn’t afford it, but right now, I have a financial “cushion” so that I could pay the price of not having to “come to blows” every time I got CLOSE to him. Seems like he’s no longer afraid when I call his name, or approach him, so I think I made the intelligent choice of taking the “easy way out.”

BIG HUGS to all bipolar survivors and those who love us. May God bless you real good. I continue to pray for my country.
