The Woman Who Lost $350,000 From Bipolar Disorder

It’s Sunday morning and I am getting ready to take off for the check.
Before I go, I have to tell you about a really sad story that I heard.

Yesterday I got a call from someone who wanted to get my course. She
had some questions.

I took her call and she was telling me how her son has bipolar disorder
and how hard it’s been. Then she told me that he had completely
wiped her retirement savings. She had spent $350,000 of her $400,000
of savings she had earned over 40 years or so. Now she is disabled
has PTSD (she feels from her son’s bipolar disorder).

BUT, she is a tough woman who will survive. I have confidence in
her. She has the right attitude. Many people I speak to have the
wrong attitude but not her.

Listening to her made me really sad. I felt so bad for her. Because
she is older, it’s going to be more difficult to replace the
retirement savings she lost. But she has an excellent plan
on how to do so. Keep reading…

If you read the description of my course/system at:

http://www.bipolarsupporter.com/report11

You see that I have information, an audio module,
and f.r.e.e bonus reports that talk
about bipolar disorder and m.o.n.e.y.

When I first setup up my site, people saw that and thought I was
crazy.

People would write stuff like:

“What the heck is wrong with you, why do you have audio about m.o.n.e.y…
take me off your list, you have no clue”

or

“I just saw an article about how to pay o.f.f d.e.b.t, I thought
this site was about bipolar disorder. Remove ME NOW!!!!!!!”

Things like that. I would remove the people and knew
they were going to be in trouble.

If you don’t know this already, I have some REALLY REALLY REALLY bad
news for you. If you have any money and you are supporting someone with
bipolar disorder and you don’t have a protection system you are at
risk for losing most of it.

Now before I get hate mail telling me that’s not true and it’s not fair
that I say this about people with bipolar disorder, do your research.

I have so many stories in my head of people who have been financially
wiped out from bipolar disorder.

-The man from California, self made millionaire, dated a girl with
bipolar disorder, within one year was broke, lost his house

-Woman from Colorado, son had bipolar disorder, she has spent $400,000
on him over 10 years.

-Woman from Atlanta, told me she has not lost a dime from bipolar disorder
and her son, I challenged her to recheck the figures. Came back, discovered
losses totaling $75,000 over 5 years.

-I lost $250,000 myself over like 6 or 7 years. My dad has lost a fortune.

-The lady I spoke to yesterday.

I could go on and on but I hope you are getting the point.

I don’t tell you stuff in these emails to give you a hard time but rather
to inform you. I tell you the stuff that nobody else will tell you or
talk about. Go to a bookstore, look at books related to bipolar disorder
and they NEVER talk about the stuff I do. Like m.o.n.e.y.
I have no idea why? It’s dumb.

If you are new to my list, you might be wondering how can people
lose so much money. Is it from treatment? Well let me give you just
a few ways but this isn’t all of them.

-From treatment

-From legal fees

-From fraud (i.e., someone with bipolar disorder takes your social security
and name and signs up to buy stuff that costs a ton, stuff like mortgages,
boats, planes, cars, diamonds, etc)

-From simple massive waste (in my mom’s episode, she used a c.r.e.d.i.t
card and was buying about $1500 a month for about 12 months in
groceries before I figured it out).

-From massive interest and late fees. My mom fell behind on payments and was
paying 29% i.n.t.e.r.e.s.t on her cards and late fees every month. This
went on for two years before I caught it.

-Buying presents for friends or family members. My mom gave most of her
retirement funds away to another family member. Why the family member
took it and didn’t give it back, well that’s another story.

-Being manipulated and paying people’s bills instead of their own while
they are in an episode. I heard of one lady that was dating someone that
did NOT have bipolar disorder. He knew she did. He manipulated her into
paying about $35,000 towards all sorts of his bills.

This is just a short list. I have heard so many stories it’s hard to
believe. When I tell people about my mom and the grocery bill, people
think I am lying. I actually thought I was lying to myself or maybe
misreading what I was seeing.

I couldn’t believe it happen to our
family. I have all the proof and I use to get my friend to look
at it to make sure I was reading the numbers correctly and totally
them right. Every time he was like “Dave, sorry bro, it’s all true.”

When I first was called by my dad to help out with my mom. I
went over and went into my mom’s room. She had and you are going
to think I am lying and making this up but 5 feet (FIVE) in
diameter, 2 inches high of bills on the floor. I am not kidding.

When I finally got her into treatment. On the first day I have some peace,
it took me 9 straight hours to organize her bills. There were pages
and pages and pages of bills I found. I am not kidding.
Dead serious.

You really need advanced systems to protect your money. Now if
you have bipolar disorder, I am not attacking you. My mom knows
all this stuff now. She told me to write you this email today because
she knows how bad it can get if you have bipolar disorder.

She has an iron clad protection system now. If she went into another
huge super episode my money and her money would be 100% protected.
Period. I invented the system to withstand the worst possible
episode.

But, the sad part is, once you lose your entire life savings like the
woman from Texas and dozens of other people I know, it’s really
hard to build up your savings again.

I personally believe that s.t.a.r.ting a h.o.m.e business is the
way to go. There’s no faster way. That’s why I put together
161 ways to do this at:

http://www.bipolarcentral.com/bipolarbusiness

People get all mad at me because I have a course on making
m.o.n.e.y from home. They think I am running some scam.

When I get emails like this, I am thinking “man you have no
clue.”

There have been people that I have spoken to during my
f.r.e.e consultations for non medical and non legal questions and
I kept saying go through my stuff on money. They were like
“Sure Dave.” They didn’t. They got wiped out and called me
months later and were broke and felt dumb.

I am not kidding. This is serious stuff.

But back to the woman from Texas.

Actually the woman from Texas has started a business online
that is doing well I am really happy for her. She has the perfect
business. Something from home. Something that has very low overhead.
Something a disabled person can do. Something that has high profit
margins.

Her business model, which she came up on her own (I had
no involvement in her idea), can make a ton of money a year. I can
see $100,000 a year with the right marketing.

But there’s a lot of options for everyone. Her business is
perfect for her. But for me it would not be.

NOTE-If you get my course at http://www.bipolarsupporter.com/report11
you CAN ask me questions about starting a business and also how
to promote it. Remember you can NOT ask me medical or legal
questions because I am NOT a doctor or lawyer.

Well I have to run to the gym. I am heading to the movies today to
see Breach with me, myself and I. I was going to see the movie
The Number 23 but I heard it was horrible.

Your friend,

Dave

P.S. Don’t wait around, check all your money today, check your c r e d i t
s.c.o.r.e as well. Put systems in place to protect your money. You’ll
thank me later. Trust me. I wish someone told me $250,000 ago.

P.P.S. Coming soon. This week, I will be emailing Lessons from the Iraq
War you can use for Bipolar Disorder.

  1. Dear Mr. David Oliver,
Thank you for sending me your articles everyday. I find them very informative, and I really like your outlook and expertise on Mental Health/Bipoloar disorder, and you Advocating for those unfortunate people that suffer from bipoloar disorder. you requested to not ask you questions that would require a doctor, but I was hoping you could at least tell me how you view OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER AND IF YOU THINK IT IS COMMON TO BIPOLAR ILLNESS??? as are they the same type illness? I have been diagnosed with so many Mental Health diagnosis over the years, I often wonder if I am just a number, and gradually psychiatrists give me another diagnosis, and then prescribe me new prescriptions, etc. I started out with a diagnosis, alchololism, anxiety/panic disorder, and Major depressive disorder 19 years ago, I suffer and I am treated the same to this day, however, I am a recovering alchoholic. Now I am being treated with Obsessive compulsive disorder. My psychiatrist tells me I do not have bipoloar disorder, however, when I read your articles, they appear to be very similar. Can you share your opinion with me.
    thanks to you,
    kimberlyalch@yahoo.com
    Kimberly

  2. What is the difference between BIPOLAR DISORDER/MANIC DEPRESSIVE DISORDER AND OCD/OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER.
How was your mother finally diagnosed, at what was her original diagnosis as from your readings, I get the impression she had bipolar for many years, untreated as not diagnosed.
what medications are most common for treating these two disorders. Have you heard of seroquel?
Please if you have time, can you share with me,
    thanks,
    kimberly

  3. Dave, I am Bipolar and have been diagonosed for almost 5 years. I want to thank you for the lesson on finances. I have lost so much money related to my BP. It’s hard to admit. My credit sucks! I’ve filed bankruptcy due to hospital bills. I’ve been in the hospital 10 times in the last 5 years related to the BP. Anyway, I am planning on starting a home business. I am doing research now to find the one best for me. Thanks for the help.

  4. Hey Dave,
It’s Dawn. I just wanted to say yes, I have heard of a lot of people losing thousands of dollars because of the irresponsible behavoir that comes with Bi-Polar Disorder. However, there are some of us out there that don’t necessarily have that exact problem. The problem I have is that my everyday bills exceed my means. The only way I can see to fix that is to go back to work and get off of disablity but in order to do that I have to go school so I can get a job that isn’t going to put me into an episode from the stress. Now that is putting me into debt because I only get so much free funding, the rest has to be covered by student loans. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you but that adds up real quick. I’m looking at around $16,000.00 by the time I finish my bachelors degree. So my question on that is do you know of any scholarship programs that can assist in this area. My school said that if I keep my grades up above a “B” then I will qualify for a few programs but I have to have two terms under me before I can apply. At that point I will already have incurred about $4,000.00 in student loans. Do you know of any other way?

  5. Dear Dave,

Although my husband hasn’t been diagnosed with Bi Polar disorder, in fact I haven’t yet found a way of talking to him about it at all. I feel sure this is the reason for all the problems I have had with him, for so many years. I really look forward to your e-mails, they have given me hope for the future. Today’s e-mail about finances is so true. I’ve spent 25 years trying to understand why my husband spends money the way he does, making me and the kids wait (or do without)so many things and why I never seem to have any money for things I want, even though I work full time. So now it all makes sense, just as all the other things I’ve puzzled about do. So thanks, you may just have saved my marriage, as things don’t seem quite so frightening anymore now I know there are other people out there going through the same things, so maybe there is a way to work things out. I’ll keep on trying a bit longer anyway…,it’s our silver wedding on the 9th March. Lets hope he doesn’t have a rage on that day, which is what usually happens on special occasions!!!

  6. Dave,
I was diagnosed with BP when I was 19 = over 28 years ago, and it has been a tough road in all areas. I have never been able to “manage” money and did get in debt and filed was bankrupt = however had very or little support…like I said it was tough = still is. I did however through all of it manage to get a degree and I am a teacher and have 20 years of military (active and reserves) behind me. I decided to do this because I recognized my financial incapabilities. Because I did this will have a stable income later and that was my sincere motivation. I did have military support – keeping me on track and the college I attended keeping me on track with paperwork and deadlines. I have been in therapy 3 times during all this with medications….no longer than 6 months…stupid of me….and currently just got out of a deep depression with medication and therapy and more recently, your information. I just can’t find a supporter or tracker….kinda like a visiting nurse of sorts???? IS THERE ANYBODY OUT-THERE??? I sent an explanation out to my family and my family does not understand. During my college years, it was maddening – with toddlers about. But it worked, with colege and miltary track systems in place (theirs). I just can’t get a system in place to work now. I am somewhat depressed but when I teach I light up the room. “Perfect” release for BP right? Anyway – just wanted to say to anyone- it’s tough but you can do it – and if you are helping someone – please watch and love them.

  7. I started a “home” business, it’s went completely crazy and cost me over $100,000 bucks, so when you tell people to run businesses from home that is not always the best thing to do. I was in a huge manic phase, well I am always manic, but I wasn’t aware I was manic at this time, I wouldn’t listen to anybody, I wanted to do want I wanted to do, I charged up so many credit cards that I opened many under fraude. I had to do bankruptcy to get out of the whole mess, that was 6 years ago, when I found out I was bipolar. so home businesses aren’t always the best way to go. I don’t think you know everything about being bipolar, you haven’t got a clue how it is to actually be bipolar. my husband took all monitary control away from me, and it works for us, he gives me a cash allowance and what I need. maybe you should tell more people to do this, cause it works better than having all the money right there art your fingertips to go spend, it’s so easy dave to go on a spending spree and make yourself manic, or I live in a manic state even on 5 meds, meds don’t work for everyone, and I have a terrific doctor. so, you need to send people more emails that say some people aren’t helped by meds, it’s in my chemistry, I have tried all of them. so, you don’t know everything about bipolar, dave. your mom is just one person. I talk to 300 people a day with bipolar with my support group, i don’t recieve a dime.

  8. Hi, Dave! It looks like kidrocknemo was a bit manic with the postings, eh? It is true, medicine does not always help, and those of us with bipolar type two, or unipolar, may not be anything like bipolar people! Anyway, it is good to hear that even after being diagnosed, Adele was able to be a teacher and in the military! When I was first diagnosed, I was told that I would not be allowed to take jobs in quite a few occupations….also, I would like to second the motion that not everybody with bipolar disorder has financial problems, all due to overspending….other family members may be just as ill or more ill and can be the source of problems too!

  9. I have a daughter that has Down Syndrome and Bipolar disorder; as well as obcessive compulsive disorder. I’m 50 years old and i also have OCD-ADHD. I have never been diagnosed with bipolar. What is the simplest way to get a diagnosis. I do go to a psychaitrist and am on Cymbalta
    kfmpinebelt@aol.com

  10. I had gone through over $100,000 when I was manic. I wish someone had the insight to know when to help when I most needed it.
