Your Friend,
Dave
What happened to the link to the blog from your email? There wasn’t one with last week’s news either.
There are 2 subjects I wanted to comment on.
1. Last week’s news about sleep. It was said that lack of night sleep lowers your seratonin levels and can develop bipolar disorder. This has me a bit worried now, since I never get to sleep until about 4am and then sleep (usually badly) until about noon. I would not want to take sleeping pills, as they tend to knock me out for the whole day as well as the night.
2. Several articles about the “At home bipolar test.” The only way to prove whether this test works or not, would be to test a good number of people who are sure (i.e. have been diagnosed) they already have bipolar disorder. Also, test people who would be absolutely no candidates for bipolar disorder (those with no symptoms). If All the former test positive and All the latter negative, it would prove that the test is reliable. It can then be applied to those who are not sure of their symptoms.
I THINK THAT YOUR RIGHT ABOUT THE RISE IN JUVENILE BIPOLAR DIAGNOSIS TO BE DUE TO INCREASED AWARENESS. I DON’T BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A CONSPIRACY TO OVERMEDICATE OUR CHILDREN LIKE I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE THAT SOME PEOPLE DO. IF I HAD BEEN DIAGNOSED SOONER I COULD HAVE BEEN TREATED SOONER AND BEEN SAVED FROM QUITE A FEW PROBLEMS INCLUDING SEVERAL SUICIDE ATTEMPT AT A YOUNG AGE BECAUSE I JUST DIDN’T KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH ME. NO ONE SEEMED TO KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH ME. I’M ALL FOR WATCHING CHILDREN FOR EARLY SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS.
