A Bipolar Secret I Never Revealed

Hi,

How’s it going today? I must say I have been having
a very hard time with a number of the people
and vendors that make this entire Organization
that helps supporters and those with bipolar disorder
a success.

Last night I was up at like 2:00am working on a
plan to correct all these problems.

Then I got to thinking how this relates to you
and a secret you can learn based on how I am
going to deal with the problems I have been facing.

Today I am going to make a complete plan of attack.
I will be making a list of all my problems, who
is a problem, what is a problem, and then
listing which problems are the highest priority.

I will number them in priority order using 1, 2, 3,
etc.

Then I will start to brainstorm solutions to these
problems. I will take each problem, put it on a
sheet of paper and then brainstorm solutions.

Now for the problems I can’t come up with solutions
to, I will start to research if there are any books,
tapes, manuals, consultants, seminars, etc. that
can help me.

Here is the biggest secret that I learned to using
this method.

It’s to go to a quiet place to do it. I prefer the
library. Virtually all of my strategic planning
with my mom when I was helping her through bipolar
disorder was done in the library.

Why? Because it was quiet, it was a different location
and the library is conducive to thinking, planning,
researching, etc.

So many people who are supporting loved one’s with
bipolar disorder first, don’t ever make any plans
at all, secondly if they try to make plans do
it while they are being screamed and yelled at
by the person they are caring for.

Is this you? Are you trying to help your loved one
but you can’t even think because there is so much
going on and/or you are getting yelled and screamed
at daily?

Now if you are in a situation where you are the sole
caretaker for this loved one, see if you can get someone
to fill in for you for a while, or some local organization
that does this (in some states they offer this service).

Do something to get to a quiet area to start listing your
problems and then solutions to them or who or
what can help you.

I speak to so many people that have no idea what Bipolar
problems they really have or what are the most important to solve.

I ask, “what’s your top three problems with supporting your
loved one?” They say “Everything.” I say focus on the three
and they can’t. They haven’t thought about what are all the
problems or which ones are the most pressing.

They get annoyed at me and say things like “Dave, I am too
busy to stop and write stuff down or think about those things.”

How can you solve a problem if you haven’t defined it?

If you got my course at

http://www.bipolarsupporter.com/report11

You’ve probably heard the interview with the woman who’s
job it is to deal with the worst of the worst situations
of families supporting loved one’s with bipolar disorder.

She advocates the same type of strategy. In addition to a
number of different techniques and strategies someone can
use to deal with a loved one who is in an episode.

Actually as a side note, I accidentally discovered this
woman through someone who had to get coaching from her.
Every day, she has to go into homes with people who are
in episodes and deal with them when family members can’t.

The amazing thing is, she can do it and most of what she
does can be learned.

Anyway, I have to take off now for the day. I hope
you enjoyed this email today.

Update On My Mom And Bipolar Disorder

Hi,

I just heard from my mom with very good news. My mom’s
doctor is very happy with my mom’s progress and now
she wants to see her in 2 months which will be the longest
period my mom has gone without seeing her.

BUT, we are still going to be vigilant. That means
she will keep doing what she has done to get the
results she has gotten.

Many people make a big mistake. Once their loved one
is doing well, they feel they can forget about everything
that got them to the position of doing well.

I wanted to send this “good news” message this morning
because if you have read my story about my mom here at:

http://www.bipolarsupporter.com/report11

You know that things were really, really bad. There didn’t
look like there was much hope. Many people doubted
my mom could get better. I can honestly say that
I never doubled it. It’s funny my bother said
there was no way that things would get better.

I remember one time trying to figure out how to protect
my mom’s c.r.e.d.i.t when she was in the hospital. I
told my brother one day when my aunt three wayed us
together.

My brother said, “Don’t waste your time. Even if you
fix it, she’ll ruin it again. Just have her declare
bankruptcy.”

I found that very cold.

Although I am known for information on bipolar disorder,
I am equally most product of my course on handling
d.e.b.t. which you can see here:

http://www.bipolarcentral.com/debtletter/

When it came to whether or not my mom would do well,
most people were burned out over all the years of
episodes.

My dad never made any comments. I think my aunt
was highly skeptical but she was really supportive.

Most of my mom’s friends wrote her off.

But, now she is doing great.

Now:

-Admits she has the disorder
-D.e.b.t is under control
-She will be out of d-e-b-t in 6 months. She will have paid off
about $30,000 of d.e.b.t herself with my system. BUT it was her
effort. She get’s the c.r.e.d.i.t not me.
-Great doctor
-3 Backup doctors
-Great therapist
-2 Backup therapists
-Medication working (is modified to this day, or tweaked)
-Detailed plan if she gets sick again
-Full cooperation
-Working for 2 years

-Getting along with people

-She will have saving and a surplus in the 4th quarter of this
year and start building a retirement fund. I am currently finishing up
my system for that. I have spent 6 months working on a system to
build a retirement fund fast, if you don’t have a lot of time and aren’t making a lot of money.

-She is taking computer classes and knows them fairly well. Prior to her episode she had virtually no knowledge of how to use computers.

Everything is going very well. So there is hope. No matter
what your situation. If we can do it, you can. Things
can get better.

When I speak to people on the phone, some take action and
know things can get better. Others try VERY hard to sell me
how there is no hope for them. They really want me to agree
and kind of get mad when I refuse to.

They say they had it worse than I did so that’s the reason
they can’t be successful helping a loved one with bipolar disorder.
I totally disagree with them.

The key is knowledge and a plan. That makes all the difference.
You don’t have to get my course you can

-Get all the books, manuals, guides, seminars on tape you can
-Start interviewing people
-Contact good doctors in your area, pay them for time to ask questions
-Contact good therapists in your area, pay them for time to ask questions
-Same with social workers
-Check with psychiatric hospital workers
-Also, learn from those who are high functioning with the disorder.

There is information out their for you. This what I did, and you can
do it too.

We are regular people. Over the last two years,
I have seen so many people that had everything going
against them, turn things around with a plan and strategy. It
can get better. Hang in there.

On a side note, I finally found someone who is going to teach
me how to setup the podcasting stuff. So you will be able to
hear me over the internet for free. It’s kind of like radio
but on the internet.

Well I have to run. See you tomorrow.

David

Why People With Bipolar Disorder Can Be So Successful

Hi,

Yesterday I told you how I was going to learn
how to record onto my computer. Well the kid
in charge of teaching me looked like a rock
star—he had 100 earrings, black finger nails
and multi colored hair.

I was excited because I knew if he looked like
that he would know his stuff. He helped me buy
everything and explained the ins and outs from
a to z. He did an excellent job and now I know
how to do it.

So, that means I will be making more material
for you. BUT, unfortunately, he doesn’t know
how to do podcasting which I still have to
figure out.

Okay, let’s get to today’s topic.

I received any email from a person the other day.
She asked me why so many great leaders, business
people, etc. have bipolar disorder.

I have long had a theory but I don’t have any
kind of study to point to prove my theory.

Here’s what I think.

Okay. Here’s the deal. In order for you to start
something, whatever it is: a daycare center,
write a book, build a website, go to college,
discover the cure for cancer, create world
peace, you have to do something really important.

Know what it is? Take a few minutes and guess,
then scroll down for the answer.

DID YOU GUESS? Don’t cheat. Scroll down…

Okay here is what you have to do. You have to TAKE ACTION.
You know how many people have ideas to do stuff and
don’t do anything?

Have you ever found yourself saying? I thought of
that…I could have done that? Wow, that guy made
100 million from that idea? I had that idea 3 years
ago.

I can’t believe that so and so saved 30 children with
that idea. I could have done that. I thought of that.
You get the idea right?

Well the difference between the person who accomplishing
something and those that don’t is taking action.

The vast majority of people will never take any action
to accomplish anything.

Then they will blame it on everyone and every thing
other than themselves.

For example just look at my courses:

HAVE BIPOLAR?
In my course/system at http://www.survivebipolar.net/

SUPPORTER OF AN ADULT?
In my course/system at http://www.bipolarsupporter.com/report11

SUPPORTING CHILD?
In my course/system at http://www.bipolarparenting.com/report2/

Some people got them. Some people didn’t. Some people had
money to get them. Some people didn’t. But some people who
had the money didn’t get them because they just didn’t
get around to it.

Why didn’t the people who wanted to get it, had the money,
not get them? Hmmm.

How come some people who didn’t have the money got them?
Hmmm.

It’s all about taking action.

Some people without money, saved up the money, did something
to get them.

Some people got the material but didn’t go through it. They didn’t
take action. So it doesn’t help them.

As good as my material is, it will never open itself out of the box
and start working without you taking any action.

Again, I will say it again. The key is action.

You see, with my family nobody took action with my mom. For
decades. I am not kidding around. I remember when I was
around 10 or so, my mom was in bed for YEARS. Now she
ate food and everything, and did get up, but for the vast
majority of the day, she was in a dark house in bed.

NOBODY did anything. Looking back it was insane. I was too
young to do anything. I remember feeling weird when my friends
would ask about my mom and I would be confused because their
moms didn’t stay in bed all day. I didn’t know what was
normal and not normal.

Eventually some how my mom started staying in bed and then
began being active. Eventually she had a major episode.
Nobody knew what to do. No one really did anything.

When my mom was going in an episode, we just ignored it
and hoped it would get better. It never did, it just
got worse and worse and worse and eventually it became
a disaster.

Over the years, no one, primarily my
dad took any action to learn about what she had, make a
plan, etc.

Then you know the story, she had a major episode in 2004
and then I took massive action to figure it all out.

I am just this kind of person. I might not be good at
editing, spelling, grammar (which certainly am not), but
I am REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY good at taking action.

I am thinking of starting a side business editing
people’s written work, want to be my first client? Just
kidding 🙂

As a quick side note, I get some phone calls from folks,
that call and say that my grammar is not good and
I need to fix it. I ask them if theirs is excellent,
and they all say yes. Then I ask, how many websites,
emails, articles, special reports, manuals and guides
do you have?

Dead silence. Why? Because although they are sooooooooo
good at writing them have never taken any action to
publish anything for others to see.

Hey, don’t get bored, I am going to tie this to why so
many great leaders have bipolar disorder. Hold on.

Just look at my daily emails. I got the idea
on one day and then started sending them the next day.
Most people wouldn’t do that. They would plan, wait, plan,
wait, check on stuff, run it by their mother, father, lawyer,
friends, pastor, doctor, dog, cat, bird, etc. They would wait
for everyone to agree and then they would find another
reason why they wouldn’t do it.

Do you know how many people I know that are getting ready, to
get started, to get set, to get ready, to get started, on something?

This guy tom I know, had an idea for a business NINE years ago
and is just getting around to get ready, to get set, to get started
to get ready to write his business plan.

Me on the other hand, I just do things. Just like helping my
mom. I took massive action.

If you are reading this right now. I commend you. I really
do. Why? You took action. You had to find me. Fill out a form
maybe. Then open an email from me. Read it and get this far.
I really commend you. Many people would not have gotten this
far.

There is a ZERO percent chance my brother would get this far
to help my mom.

When it comes to my courses/systems, people have to get
them and then they have to go through it. I had a lady
call me a month ago, she just wanted to know ONE thing. That’s
it. I told her I didn’t have the answer and she had to
discover it for herself. I told her it was in my course
OR she could check 2 different books, also 3 websites
and do some other stuff.

I actually told her EXACTLY what to do to NOT get my
course because she said she didn’t have the money. Then
she said, “well I will get that stuff you recommended.”
Keep in mind this was stuff she could get for f.r.e.e. I
gave her an alternative to my material. Are you thinking
I am crazy? I am not, I am not all about money you know.

Guess what? I called today so I could include her in my
email and asked if she got the stuff. She said, and I quote
“Well, not yet, I’ve been busy, I am going to do it next week.”

I laughed. So first, I spent 22 minutes on the phone for nothing
because she didn’t take action.

Now, why do so many great leaders have bipolar disorder? I believe
that it’s because in the manic part of bipolar disorder, you do
stuff without totally thinking it through. As a result, you
get a result. If you keep doing stuff, or taking action,
generally you will accomplish things.

There’s a saying by Woody Allen: “Eighty percent of success is showing up.”

Many people with bipolar disorder, do more stuff, take more action,
show up more and as a result accomplish more. The more a person
does, the luckier he/she will get. If you keep doing stuff
then eventually you catch a break, which makes it look like
you are really smart or special when it’s all about probability.

Take action towards your goal to increase the chance to accomplish
it. Sounds simple but virtually no one does it. People with
bipolar disorder do, and that’s why lots of them are successful.

Gotta run and battle with my printer, duplicator, etc.

Dave

Bipolar Warning: Why I got so MAD yesterday

Hi,

First, remember you have to move your clock forward and
we lost an hour. I know that’s a pain but sorry,
I didn’t setup the system 🙂

Okay, yesterday I had a situation where someone was advertising
and promoting a multi level marketing company’s “nutritional”
product on my blog.

I actually police my blog and pay someone to do so. I got
an “urgent” call informing me. Now, I am all for f.r.ee
speech and everything but not this kind.

I have a ZERO tolerance policy about advertising on my
blog. Anything ads will be removed and if someone keeps it
up, there will be serious consequences.

I am not kidding around.

The situation was made even worse with the fact
it was a multi level marketing aka network marketing
product that was being promoted.

I guess since I know this industry so well (I wrote
my thesis on it, I consult firms that invest in mlm
companies, etc), and I know bipolar disorder so
well, I get mad when people promote miracle
products for bipolar disorder.

Ones with ZERO, and I mean ZERO research into
them.

Let me tell you, I have spent a TON of money
paying doctors, researchers, writers and all kinds
of investigators to find out if ANYTHING can work
and replace medication.

I have NEVER, EVER found ANYTHING. Not one single
thing. Nothing. Zero. Also, anyone that has told
me they know someone, who knows someone, who knows
someone, who knows someone, who found something, I looked
into all of these in 2006.

Actually I had a system of finding people not on medication
taking natural products and interviewing them. In all cases
they were not on the right track and they were either in
a disaster and they thought everything was “a ok” or they
were going to be in a disaster soon and didn’t realize it.

What do I mean? I remember one person that got off his
medications. He was doing just fine. He had 3 jobs,
was painting, volunteering, starting a business, and he
had lots of money. I informed him he was manic he said
he wasn’t. HELLO?

I followed up 7 months later. First line disconnected, email
address bounced back, fax line disconnected. I finally reached
him on his cell.

He lost it all and was brought into the hospital by the police.
He was broke and trying to “find” his family to get help.

I actually felt bad. And spent like half the day finding his
family and then spending hours on the phone trying to help
them.

I have lost track of him now.

He’s not an isolated case. There were so many others like
this, I had to stop even looking into it because it was a
waste of my time and money. I had to pay 3 people to
find, follow up with and preinterview these people.

The only good news is, I can pass the lesson along to
you at no cost in this email.

I don’t even bother to waste my time and money in
2007. If I hear of a miracle cure, or something
I just let it go. Michele made a comment to me
and said “Let someone else spend the time and money
running down these things.”

I almost felt like a person that was chasing Big
Foot sighting. For those out of the US, Big Foot
is a like a myth. Actually I can’t really even
explain what Big Foot is, go to google.com type
in Big Foot and look around if you want to know.

Back to the story, the thing that gets me so mad is that, people
make these claims and they don’t realize how it
hurts folks with bipolar disorder.

EVERY SINGLE person that I know that is stable,
doing well FOR THE LONG TERM, not for 6 months or
7 months but for the long term is on medication.

EVER SINGLE ONE.

Period. My mom, all the people that work for me,
all the people I have interviewed that have huge
success stories, the ones that I meet when I
got to conferences and meetings.

Sometime I am baffled that people want to experiment
either on their loved one or on themselves trying
“natural” remedies made by questionable companies
especially in the MLM industry.

Some supporters call me and say “well I don’t want
my loved one on medication” I always say “Oh
so you don’t want them on what’s proven to work? You’d
rather have them try risky non proven treatments?”

Then they get all mad at me and think that I secret
work at a drug company and I am in the global medication
conspiracy.

Sometimes I think these supporters need to have their
heads examined.

Hey, before I get the hate mail, don’t even bother
sending it, because I will not read it. I have a totally
inflexible opinion on this issue.

I am never going to promote nutritional products
made from let’s say a mlm company that is telling
you a product cures everything, fixes your hair,
turns you into a super model, cleans your house,
cuts your grass, watches your kids, etc. AND all
you need to do is “invest” a bunch of money
and you can get R I C H telling the others
the same thing.

If you are doing this, shame on you.

Look, if something really did work, don’t you think
that I would promote it? Why do I promote going to the
doctor, paying his/her fee? Because it works?

Do you think that I have a financial agreement with all
doctors all over the world and they give me a commission
on all the people that come to them from me?

I know you don’t think that but you know what? There’s a
few people that have written me that think:

-I own a drug company.

-I own stock in drug company. Actually maybe I do or maybe I don’t. If I could even figure out how to read my mutual fund statements I would know.

-Someone in my family is a doctor and I make money sending people to doctors.

-You’re gonna laugh but some think, I have been hired by drug companies
to promote medication because I am a tool in a global conspiracy
to promote medications instead of nutritional products. I know that sounds
crazy but people tell me this. One person said “Dave, I can tell
you are a nice guy but you’re being used by ‘them’.”
When I ask who “they” or “them” is/are I never get an answer. I guess it’s the 4 or 5 people that control the world?

If you have bipolar disorder and you are doing well,
for a while, it’s because of proper treatment.

Oh and I just thought of another thing I almost
forgot.

If you take ANY nutritional supplements, you MUST
tell your doctor so he/she knows. For example,
my mom’s doctor, who is EXCELLENT, believes
in complementary natural treatments to medication.

If my mom sees something and wants to try it,
she takes in the literature and/or the product
and gets her approval. My mom’s doctor is
very open and will do research to check up on it
and give my mom the okay. She will also monitor
my mom.

GUESS WHAT?
There are tons, and tons of other doctors that are
the SAME EXACT way. So don’t think, “Oh, it’s easy
for him to say because his mom has the only good doctor
on the earth, and well there’s no one like his mom’s doctor
for me to talk to.”

HAVE BIPOLAR?
In my course/system at http://www.survivebipolar.net/

SUPPORTER?
In my course/system at http://www.bipolarsupporter.com/report11

SUPPORTING CHILD?
In my course/system at http://www.bipolarparenting.com/report2/

I have an entire system of finding a doctor. If you are
“in to” natural complementary treatments, make sure you
put that on the call back request form you use to
find doctors.

That’s all you need to do. And when you interview the doctors
that are calling you, ask about if they support natural
complementary treatments.

These days, many doctors include complementary nutritional
products AND other natural things along with medication.

BUT you have to work as a team. You can’t go it alone, like
so many people do.

The people that “sneak” stuff behind their doctors back
are just hurting themselves. Actually I take that back,
they might be hurting others. Do you know how many people
get off medication and kill someone else? It’s sad.

Not to mention, do you know how many people that get off medication
and then commit suicide? Just ask Michele who writes for me. She
has a blog as well. Her sister had bipolar disorder and got off
her medication. She was doing great in her own head. Then she
killed herself.

She is gone. She will never be back. There are no “do overs” for her.
All because she got off her medication.

Anyway, back to the lady who posted the stuff on my blog.

I told my mom the
entire story and I was rather annoyed that this person
also included “maybe this can help your mother.” My mom
asked me why I was so mad and I said, “Because you are
doing fine and don’t need any questionable mlm nutritional
product’s help.”

My mom said, “David don’t get so worked up
the woman probably didn’t mean anything by her comment
and she probably just wants to help but doesn’t know
all of what you know.”

I told her she was probably right.

I called her and explained a) don’t promote products on my blog b) how
serious it is.

Anyway, the woman I
spoke to was a really, really, nice person who really
didn’t know a number of things. I felt bad for her. I feel
she had been suckered by a mlm company. But that’s my opinion.
Nevertheless, she said sorry.

I was also really concerned for her brother. He
got off his medication, without checking with the doctor,
and now he thinks he is doing okay. I have seen over
the years, people get off their medication and they THINK
they are doing well. In their minds, everything is going
along just wonderful.

Now if you check their life out, it slowly turns into a
disaster.

I hope this woman’s brother gets back to the doctor
and gets back on his medication.

Anyway, okay enough about multi level company’s today,
I have a bunch of stuff I have to do.

Hey I have to figure out how to record into my computer.
I am going to Radio Shack because I found some kid that
says he can explain it to me. I am still working off
recording into audio tapes. That’s really old school,
don’t you think?

On a side note, I listen to cds, and I was in the gym
and had my cd player, this guy came up to me and pointed
at my cd player and asked me if I ride horse to work
:).

I need to get with the times I guess LOL.

Okay have to run, catch you later.

Dave

Bipolar Lesson: Feel like giving up with your loved one?

Hi,

It’s 6:45am on Saturday and I am dead tired. I have a ton
of things to do today but I wanted to write you really quick.

I received a rather interesting email from someone named Tam on my email
list.

She wrote:

“I’ve been reading everything I can get my hands on, and thanks for all the f.r.e.e info and stories that you share, however one question, and no I don’t know the answer.

How can you give support, advice or just be a good lean post when you have nothing left to give? My daughter 17, diagnosed 1 year ago and it’s been a road with all kinds of twist and turns and the latest mania episode pushed me over the edge and I feel that I can no longer be the guide, because I feel I have been broken finally.

Now who does she turn to? My cup runeth over, and it’s spilling. Thanks.”
-Tam
=============

The big question is, Tam is asking is, how do you find the strength
to keep supporting your loved one?

This is a VERY difficult question for me to answer via email.
I could do a better job on the phone, one on one with you
or in a group setting. However, let me try as best I can.

I hope what I say make sense.

But first let me tell you a story to explain how I learned
the secret to strength with bipolar disorder.

When my mom first started going into an episode, it started
off slow. She yelled every now and then. She was angry some of
the time. I could take it. But then as each month passed
and December hit, she had a total melt down. She became a
totally different person. Screaming, yelling, throwing things,
etc.

Now at this point, I did NOT have a system or course like
I have now at:

http://www.bipolarsupporter.com/report11

I am writing this because some people incorrectly think I
had like a book, manual or personal advisor that told me
every single thing I should and shouldn’t be doing.

All I really had was my aunt. I use to speak to her every
day about what was going on. We would talk about what I was
seeing and hearing and she would try to offer me advice.
She was really worried but there was nothing she could do.

Why? She had an illness about 12 or 15 years ago that left her
paralyzed so she couldn’t jump on a plane and come and help. Not
to mention she had two younger kids.

Each day, I tried to absorb all of what my mom was doing and
saying. At first I could and then eventually it would get to
me. I would yell back. I would get really mad. My yelling
caused her to yell and scream.

No matter how much energy I had, she could yell longer. And
then she began saying things that didn’t even make sense.

Then I was mad all the time. I kind of felt like I was
turning into her. I would even start yelling at my friends
and people I knew because I was annoyed 24 hours a day.

If you are caretaker, has this happen to you yet?

Then I started to realize, I was arguing with someone who was
not even in her right mind. Where was my dad? Well he called me
in to “help” with my mom and he would leave early every day
and slip in late at night so he didn’t have to deal with it.

I don’t blame him. He has a heart condition and he had
fought bipolar for more than 30 years and had clearly lost and
surrendered years prior.

I think at some point, my dad simply gave up and felt he could
not defeat bipolar disorder and bipolar disorder, had and would
continue to defeat him. So he basically enlisted me to “help”
sometime around December at which time I did.

There’s a lesson here so please keep reading.

Where was my brother? My brother refused to call me back.
I called time and time again.
One time I called him on cell phone with a prepaid phone card
so he couldn’t see it was me and it would show up as a local
number but not mine. He picked up, and I said I need help
mom is really sick and I don’t know what to do. He said, “I’ll
call you right back.”

I waited on the side of the road for 42 minutes and then realized
he wasn’t calling back.

So understand, I was totally alone myself.

Christmas that year was a total nightmare. Then January came
and I was determined that my mom needed to go to the hospital.
My dad agreed but didn’t know how to get her there. He asked me
to call my brother and I told him Stephen will not call me back.

My dad said my mom had a doctor she went to sometimes when
she wasn’t feeling well. (He didn’t even say psychiatrist
or that my mom had bipolar, he called it not feeling well,
sick, etc.).

We looked for the number and didn’t find it. My dad remember
it was in a certain city in New Jersey. I went online and
didn’t find it. Eventually I found it in a telephone book.

The doctor was no help at all.

Then I invented a technique of getting my mom into the hospital.
It’s the “look for a window” technique that I speak about in
my course at:

http://www.bipolarsupporter.com/report11

It takes a while to explain so don’t think I am hiding something
from you. It takes pages and pages to describe and I can’t make
this email super long.

In my material, you know that I write there is no easy way to get
someone into treatment and I discovered 21 ways to do it that do NOT
involve involuntary commitment. I discovered some on my own and most
from emailing a survey to over 25,000 people who are on my mailing
list, and who were supporters of bipolar disorder.

When I had the same technique used at least 5 times from 5 different
technique, I considered it a technique to be included in my system.
After a massive amount of time that’s how I got 21 methods.

Now before I confuse you. I created these techniques AFTER my mom
was doing well and stable NOT before. I did however create/invent
or come up with the “look for a window” technique when my mom
first went to the hospital.

So to be clear, some techniques came from before my mom was totally
stable when I had no course at all. Others came after, when I decided
to create a course.

I created my course after my mom was stable and I wanted to give
back and help people to not suffer like we did.

I hope this makes sense.

Anyway, back to the story.

After my mom went in the hospital, I had some time to think. I
decided that I was sick and tired of her illness (I didn’t
know what it was called at the time). I decided at around
9:00am the morning my mom went in the hospital for the first
day, I would know everything there was to know about her illness,
how to prevent it, how to control it, if it took me years to
figure it out.

I decided I was going to stop work and focus 100% of my effort
on this goal. It took me 9 months of massive research to develop
first a philosophy of what had to be done.

Then I started putting my techniques into action and seeing
amazing results.

Hopelessness turned into hope. Defeat turned into little
victories and then bigger victories. Fear turned into
faith.

I slowly started gaining strength and realizing bipolar
was controllable and that my mom could do well.

Finally, I knew what had to be done, even if my mom wasn’t
doing perfectly well, I felt eventually in control because
I had the right knowledge or information.

I knew I had arrived because I was 100% convinced my mom
would do well and I knew how to help her. I had never been
like that ever.

Even when she had bad days as she was recovering from her
episode, I never wavered. I knew exactly what had to be done.

I real secret for having the strength to continue
forward is knowledge and information about what to do.

If you remember Tam’s email to me, that was above in
this email, she just doesn’t know what to do. That’s
what’s giving her a feeling of hopelessness.

Right now, if you feel you can’t
go on, it’s probably because you don’t know what to do,
how to do it, and how to help your loved one exactly.

Not knowing is slowly wearing you down. Day by
day you start to consider “should I give up?”

Or, “is there any hope for my loved one?”

One of the reasons I have so many interviews in
my course is because I wanted you to hear real people
that suffered, almost gave up, and then that turned it all around
and exactly what they did to do so.

I want you to understand, I am not saying get my course, rather
get information. It’s okay if you don’t get my course. It
really is. You can do this:

-Contact doctors

-Contact therapists

-Go to many support group meetings

-Call hospital social workers

-Read all the books you can
(especially ones that tell you what bipolar disorder really is, ones written by real doctors NOT people who have long sad tales to tell and want you to feel sorry for them.)

-Talk to anyone and everyone that is connected to bipolar disorder

-Read and study material related that could help with bipolar disorder. You are going to think I am totally crazy but this is 100% true, some of the systems that I thought of that work come from how Ronald Reagan, former President of the United States Of America, handled the Cold War
and Soviet Union.

You probably think that I am totally out of my mind. But, think
for a second, the Cold War involved a threat to the US, bipolar
is a threat to you and/or your family. See the connection?

AND THIS IS HUGE:
Find successfully people who have bipolar and ask lots of questions. Don’t get bogged down listening to the ones that only complain and aren’t doing well. They will make sure feel worse. Avoid those people like the
plague.

I have to run now, have a great day.

Catch you tomorrow.

Bipolar Lesson From The One Armed Speed Reader

Hey,

I wanted to write you really quick before I head over to
the old gym. It’s something I forgot to tell you last week.

Last week, I was out in a store and saw a guy who
had one arm. I was thinking to myself, “That really
is terrible…it must be really hard for him.”

So then I wondered how he deals with it, how hard his
life is and things like that.

So me being the shy, introverted person that I am,
I walk over to him and say, “Hey, I wanted to ask you
a question, I am kind of doing some research because
I run a site that helps people deal with bipolar disorder,
both supporters and people with the disorder and I was
wondering if you could help me out, really quick.”

IMPORTANT NOTES:
First, you probably think that I am crazy to just go up
and ask a stranger such a question but I must say, through
full disclosure, I use to sell shoes door to door, and lots
of other things when I was a kid so now, rejection, the word no,
people yelling at me telling me to go away, doors being
slammed in my face, have no affect on me. And now, I can
handle people writing me curses like:

“Take me off your list you F$#king A%^hole!!!!!!!!!”

So I have think skin.

So back to the story, he said, “Ummm well I guess so what
do you need?”

Well I said “I notice that you have one arm, and here’s
what I wanted to ask you and I think you’ll be able to
help several thousand people who deal with bipolar disorder.”

NOTE:
Here’s the sales person in my coming out. When I use to go
to someone’s door to sell shoes, I think I was like 14 or so,
I would say, “I was wondering if you could help me out, I just
got started in this business and I needed some help, I only
need just few minutes Sir/Ms.” Then you gently insert your
foot into the door.

I never knew the techniques I used to sell those shoes
would come in handy one day.

Okay back to the story, so I asked him, questions like:

How do you get a long with one arm
What’s the key to being able to get a long
Do you wonder why you have one arm?
Etc.

So he told me all this and he said over time he adapted as a
kid and now he doesn’t think about it.

Then I asked again, “Do you spend a lot of time thinking about
why you have one arm?” He said, “Oh, no, that’s a waste of time.
I can’t change that.”

I asked, “What would happen to someone who had one arm that
spent a ton of time thinking about why they have one arm?”

He said, “Well, they would go crazy because there is no real
reason it just happened, and you have to move forward and move
forward with the cards God gave you. The question becomes
how can I get along in society with one arm, or do what I
want to with one arm, or accomplish whatever goals I set
for myself with one arm.”

I said to him, “Hey thanks, I got it. You’re going to help
a bunch of people with your story.” He said, “What do you
mean, what did I do? How?”

I told him that so many people dealing with bipolar disorder
spend so much time trying to figure out WHY someone has
bipolar disorder instead of HOW to cope and deal with the illness.
I told him I was going to email my entire list so they could
hear the story.

He said, “Oh that makes sense, so bipolar disorder is like a mental
illness and you are saying that if you have it, you have to learn
how to live with it and not worry about why you got it? Kind of
like I have to learn to live with one arm and not wonder why I only
have one arm?”

NOTE: He didn’t know much about bipolar disorder and notice
I said, “why you go it.” This is not to suggest that you can
catch bipolar disorder. I just wrote what he said as I remember
it. Make sense? Hope so 🙂

Back to the story, I said, “Yes, exactly!” He said that made
sense to him and then we both had to go but before he did
I learned he is a speed reader like I am. He actually went
to the same school I did.

It’s really odd, I get tons of emails where people ask why someone
has bipolar disorder. I see this in all the groups I volunteer
at. I hear this when I speak.

If you notice in my main courses/system

The course/system for supporters of adults:
http://www.bipolarsupporter.com/report11

The course/system for supporters of children and teens:
http://www.bipolarparenting.com

The course/system for those with bipolar disorder:
http://www.survivebipolar.net

I spend very little time on the why of bipolar disorder. Why?
Because first there are a zillion books that cover that. Also
websites.

The question becomes, once someone has bipolar disorder:

How to live with bipolar disorder
How to support a loved one with bipolar disorder
How to find a doctor
How to afford a doctor/therapist
How to develop a system to manage the disorder
How to get employment if you have bipolar disorder
How to raise money to pay for care

So on and so forth. There’s a million things to learn but
you get the idea. To many people, spend too much on the “Why.”

This is a huge mistake in my opinion. Focus on the how
not the why.

Hey I gotta run to the gym. Catch you tomorrow.

Shocking Bipolar Pregnancy Story

Hey,

I’m alive!

Sorry for the delay. So many things came up today
so I haven’t had a chance to write. Plus it snowed
AGAIN today so I had to shovel.

Anyway, I just had to tell you this story REALL quick.

I seriously have to keep it short today 🙂

Yesterday someone how a woman got my cell phone
and called me at like 5:45am. I am not a big fan of
conversation in the morning but I listened half
asleep :).

She said she need 5 minutes and that she had
got my course at:

http://www.bipolarsupporter.com/report11
and was using the f.r.e.e question certificate
(note: for non medical and non legal questions).

She said she wanted to have a baby but her husband
had bipolar and she was afraid the baby would
get it.

She wanted to know if I, David Oliver, would have
a child if there is a risk of my kid having bipolar
disorder.

I told her absolutely I would. I am not genetic expert
but there is a risk that my kid or kids could inherit
bipolar disorder. I am not worried one bit however. Not
one bit. Why? Am I crazy? No.

As far as I am concerned bipolar disorder is manageable.
The people who have problems, generally do NOT follow
a system to manage it. They wing it. They don’t:

have a doctor or go regularly
don’t follow a proper treatment plan
don’t take medication at all or regularly
and many other things I talk about in my
course at http://www.survivebipolar.net

The course for people with bipolar disorder.

NOW, before I get a bunch of emails telling me “Dave
that’s not true. I have tried everything and it doesn’t
work”, I have found bipolar disorder is manageable. Whenever
I start asking questions and do my investigation into the last
episodes as I teach in my courses, I find people are not following
a good system. I have found that huge gigantic, life destroying
episodes are less about random chance and are more in a person’s
control.

I have 8 people who work for
me and I can see what works and what doesn’t work.

And no, I am not saying I know everything there is about
bipolar disorder but I am telling you, I believe one should
not fear a person with bipolar disorder or fear having a child
because of bipolar disorder. Again this is my opinion.

And it’s my email list so I can say what I want :).

With that said, I do want to have kids and I am not worried
about bipolar disorder. But I can not tell you what to do.

If you don’t want to have kids for fear of bipolar disorder,
that’s up to you. But I would get the facts first.

The person that called me was making a decision with virtually
no information.

Last year I got this question over and over and I put
together some material at:

http://www.bipolarcentral.com/pregnancy/

I told her about my material which she is going to get and
I made her promise to write me her thoughts after she goes
through it and allow me to post it on my blog.

That was the least she could do since she woke me up at
5:45am. 🙂

If people saw what I see and worked with the people I work
with, they would not be so worried about bipolar disorder.

I have to run and will write more about this later.

Hey, I have to run, catch you tomorrow.

Bipolar Lesson: Are You This Kind Of Fool?

Hey,

I was talking to my friend yesterday about people who
represent themselves in court.

There is the old adage, in legal field that describes a person who represents himself in court trial: “Has a fool for a client.”

Attorneys strongly recommend that they should handle all legal matters
for their clients and that clients shouldn’t attempt to be their own
attorney and handle legal matters on their own no matter how simple
they may be.

If you believe this, and you should, have you ever heard of or seen:

The person who tries to diagnose and treat him/herself with bipolar
disorder.

If you try to be your own doctor, you have a fool for a client.

I have seen this rather disturbing trend at support group meetings.
It goes like this. People jump on the internet and maybe get a
book or two. then all of a sudden, they believe they are experts
at diagnosing bipolar disorder.

Then, to make it even worse, these people go support groups
and diagnose each other and offer medical advice. Even though
NONE of them are doctors and have any training.

It’s the most unbelievable thing I’ve ever seen.

At meetings I hear stuff like: “Hey I took whatever medication and it
worked.” People will crowd around and say, “What medication was that?
I need to get on that. I need to get my loved one on that. Say
that again so I can write it down.”

Or, and this is even worse, people say: “I took this medication and
it did horrible things to me, my hair fell out, I gained a ton of weight,
my arms and legs fell off, I had all this bad stuff happen.”

If you’ve been to support group meetings, you know that people exaggerate
wildly about these things. That’s why I said the arms and legs part.
You know this is true if you’ve been to these groups.

If you find what I am saying offensive, remove link is at the bottom.

Then the same people crowd around and say, “Oh, my, I have to get off this medication.” Or something like: “Gimmie my cell phone, honey, I have to call so and so and warn this medication is bad. How do you spell
that medication again??”

When I hear this I am so disturbed. I do a ton of volunteering and I
hear this soooooooooooooooo much it makes my head hurt. I wish they
would BAN talking about medications at ALL support groups which
they can’t because we have the freedom of speech.

Well now that I think about it, that was dumb what I just said. I don’t
want “them” taking away freedoms. So I take that
back, I just wish people would stop treating and diagnosing themselves
when they have absolutely no clue.

Correct information is almost never passed at these meetings in regards
to treatments. And if some information is correct, the person who is
hearing it, isn’t good at taking notes, isn’t good at hearing what is
really said to write it down or isn’t organized and won’t be able to find
anything written down at a later date.

And remember, I am NOT doctor and I don’t play one on TV, and I am NOT
offering medical advice at all but, every one is different, what
works for one person might or might not work for another. You
can NOT treat and diagnose yourself. You or your loved one
MUST GO TO A QUALIFIED DOCTOR for a proper diagnosis. Period. End of story.

My mom’s doctor has told her she takes a combination of medication
that no one other client takes and that she has never seen this combination ever successfully work on anyone except my mom.

I hope you get the point that I am trying to make.

Only a QUALIFIED doctor can make this determination. One that went to
school, studied and graduated, (a real school, not a mail order school) should treat and diagnose. Not someone who went on the internet and spent
a few days “researching” bipolar disorder and picked up two books
at Barnes and Noble.

Unfortunately, you hear a lot of nonsense at support group meetings.
Now before anyone gets mad at me for making such a statement, I do
volunteer at them and have done so for two years now. I volunteer
WAY MORE than 99.9% of people so I think I have earned the right
to make these statements.

How many people do you know who volunteer at THREE different groups
for two years?

NOTE-I am not saying all support groups are bad and there is
no value in them, what I am saying is that many people are trying
to treat and diagnose at them and that’s not good.

If anything, when you are at support group meetings, you should be asking:

How to find a QUALIFIED doctor

How to interview a doctor

How to determine if a doctor is a good fit for you or your loved one

How to find the money to pay for a doctor

What you can do to help a doctor treat you or your loved one better

What kind of information you can provide a doctor to help with you
or your loved one’s diagnosis.

The material you will find in my course and system at:

http://www.bipolarsupporter.com/report11

Now, I am not telling you to get my material. You don’t have to,
I am trying to point you in the right direction. You can go
get a bunch of books, interview people, and do what I did to
find the information yourself without getting my course.

Do whatever you think is easiest, fastest and would be most
beneficial for you. I don’t want you to think that I am “pushing”
my course on you.

You know what? In two years of volunteering in three places, NOBODY
has ever asked any of those questions. I can’t even believe it.

I hope you get my point. You can tell I feel strongly about this
stuff. If you worked for me and were one of my writers, you would
know how strongly I do feel about this. I harp on it almost
every day. If you ever talk to Michele Soloway, one of my key writers,
ask her, and she will tell you.

Well, hopefully you aren’t a fool for a client?

If you want a diagnosis, find a great doctor and pay him her. Don’t
be cheap either and focus on cost. That is, if you find a qualified
doctor and you feel he/she is expensive. Do something to afford him/her.
Don’t get all mad and say it’s not fair, the system is against me,
so on and so forth. Do whatever it takes

If you had brain surgery, would you be looking for a “deal” with the
doctor? No, you would want the best and do whatever you could to
afford it. And the good news is this, bipolar disorder is NOT
even close to the costs of surgery. So anyone can afford it. That’s
right anyone who is creative.

If you read through all my materials, you will clearly see that.

Oh by the way, people have written to me what a blog is. Go to
google and type in blog and you will learn about them. I am low
tech myself. I don’t even have an ipod 🙂

Dave

Response To Comment On Bipolar Blog

First I wanted to thank all the people that have written comments
on my blog. If you want me to read something for sure, write it
on my blog. I read 100% of the blog entries.

Dawn wrote on my blog at:

http://supporterblog.blogspot.com/

NOTE: What I have done is posted my responses noted with DO>

DAWN:
Hey Dave,
It’s Dawn. I just wanted to say yes, I have heard of a lot of people
losing thousands of dollars because of the irresponsible behavoir that comes with Bi-Polar Disorder. However, there are some of us out there that
don’t necessarily have that exact problem.

DO> That’s great. BUT, do believe you should have a system in place
that will prevent this from happening if it should. I always say
hope for the best, but plan for the worst. It only take a short
period of time to wipe out your finances.

DAWN:
The problem I have is that my everyday bills exceed my means. The only way I can see to fix that is to go back to work and get off of disablity but in order to do that I have to go school so I can get a job that isn’t going to put me into an episode from the stress.

DO> I see another way, cut your expenses if possible, if you have d.e.b.t
cut that using a system. You can get a bunch of books on cutting expenses
and saving m.o.n.e.y. You would be surprised all the ways there are to
do this. Or see my course at www.bipolarcentral.com/debtletter

Also, you should work to add extra income. I teach people
to be creative. For example, can you get a part time low stress job and s.t.a.r.t a home b.u.s.i.n.e.s.s. BUT you have to be careful not to exceed
the limits on what you can make on disability. Make sure you talk your
plan over with your doctor as well to monitor your treatment plan.

I think you have to look at possibly doing a split between a job and other
h.o.m.e business income. NOTE-I am not an accountant or offering legal or
financial advice but you should consider with a business you can
expense and write off things related to the business. This saves money.

The extra money can go towards paying off your d.e.b.t. Check out
books in the book store or the library related to this subject. Or
look at what I have at: http://www.bipolarcentral.com/bipolarbusiness

Do NOT sink a ton of m.o.n.e.y into the business.

Watch out for m.ulti l.evel marketing schemes or anything that sounds
way too good to be true. I actually wrote the book on scams literarily.

I am one of the nationals leading experts on identifying get r.i.c.h
quick schemes. I have a book titled “Get Rich Quick Schemes Finally
Exposed.”

Consider picking one or two that are simple to start up and generate immediate profits with high margins. Side note: I helped a lady start a plant watching business. Less than $10 to start and pretax margins are 98% or so. She keeps 98 cents or so for every dollar she makes.
She makes like $500 to $800 a month, last I heard. Totally stress f.ree
and very simple to do.

If you, your doctor, and others involved in your support feel you can
create enough of a stable income, you may consider getting off disability
BUT make sure you think it through carefully. Run ALL the numbers FIRST.

DAWN:
Now that is putting me into debt because I only get so much f.r.e.e funding, the rest has to be covered by student loans. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you but that adds up real quick. I’m looking at around $16,000.00 by the time I finish my bachelors degree. So my question on that is do you know of any scholarship programs that can assist in this area.

DO> I am not sure. I have had people ask me about this. If I were
you, I would research books on how to get scholarships, look for PAID
services that find them for you and talk to guidance counselors
or people in college admissions offices. The paid services, although
cost money, are really efficient and have guarantees of some kind.

Take all the information and you will most likely have the answer.
I think there are paid services that do this for you however.
I don’t know who. Check google.com and research.

Lastly, I would think that you could get more scholarships not
connected to bipolar disorder but ones like everyone else can get. But
I am not 100% sure.

DAWN:
My school said that if I keep my grades up above a “B” then I will qualify for a few programs but I have to have two terms under me before I can apply. At that point I will already have incurred about $4,000.00 in student loans. Do you know of any other way?

DO> What I wrote above. If you got my course at:

http://www.bipolarsupporter.com/report11 and fill out the form
for non legal and medical advice (remember I am NOT a doctor or
lawyer or accountant) and fax or mail to me. I will
call you on my dime and spend time brainstorming a plan. I have
too many ideas to write in this medium. But what I wrote already
should put you on the right track.

Remember to talk to your doctor about your plan to make sure
your treatment is line with your goals.

Finally look at your skills. If you can get a higher paying job,
you can work less. Can you consult anyone with anything? Consulting
pays very well. You can be a consultant on a wide variety of things.

I just hired a lady who is consulting me on how to organize my
physical files and my files on my computer. Many people know how
to do this but she took action and started a b.usiness to do it.

She makes great money.

=======================================

Well that’s it for today. I have to run. Lots of things to
do today. Catch you later.

Oh I forgot. I saw the movie Breach on Sunday. It was EXCELLENT.
I highly recommend it. Anyone see The Number 23? I heard bad
things from some friends but one friend said it was good.

Dave
