Don&#8217;t let bipolar disorder overwhelm you"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi,<\/p>\n<p>I just wrote an article recently that I think a number<br \/>of people, really, really, really need.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s titled: &#8220;Ways to Calm Down Quickly When Overwhelmed&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I have received many emails over the last few days<br \/>from people who are overwhelmed with problems from<br \/>bipolar disorer. This is supporters and surviviors<br \/>of bipolar disorder.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, here is the article:<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes we don\u2019t even realize how much stress has <br \/>built up within us until all of a sudden we feel <br \/>totally overwhelmed.  Then there are other times when <br \/>a stressful situation is immediately thrust upon us <br \/>and we are instantly overwhelmed by it.  At those times, <br \/>we go from a calm state of mind to completely stressed <br \/>in an instant.<\/p>\n<p>Whichever situation happens to you, you need to know <br \/>how to calm down quickly in a stressful, overwhelming <br \/>situation.<\/p>\n<p>There are several easy and quick ways to deal with that <br \/>overwhelming feeling.  Then you will be better able to <br \/>deal with whatever put you in that stressful situation.<\/p>\n<p>The following suggestions may be helpful to you (some may <br \/>be combined):<\/p>\n<p>-Take a walk.<br \/>Exercise is a great stress reliever, because it is a <br \/>natural one.  We all have endorphins in our bodies, and <br \/>they become excited by any type of exercise, whether it <br \/>is aerobics, or just a simple walk.  When these endorphins <br \/>are excited, they make us feel better naturally, thus <br \/>becoming a natural stress reliever, and instantly calming <br \/>us down.  Walking will give you a chance to think about <br \/>whatever it is that put you in the stressful situation to <br \/>begin with, and is also a quick and easy way to deal with <br \/>that overwhelming feeling of stress \u2013 to relax both your mind <br \/>and your body.<\/p>\n<p>-Take some deep breaths.<br \/>If you cannot leave the situation you are in, you can at <br \/>least take some deep breaths.  Relaxation experts advise <br \/>anywhere from five to ten deep breaths in and out slowly <br \/>(to a count of 5), relaxing your body.  At the same time, <br \/>they advise picking one word or phrase (some call it a <br \/>\u201cmantra\u201d) to repeat as you breathe in, and again as you <br \/>breathe out.  This will help you concentrate on your <br \/>breathing, and distract you from the stressful, <br \/>overwhelming situation in which you find yourself.  <br \/>You may not be able to remove your body, but you can <br \/>relax it.<\/p>\n<p>Practicing breathing exercises has both physical and <br \/>emotional benefits for you.  For one thing, you can do <br \/>them anywhere and at any time.  For another thing, this <br \/>type of breathing gets more oxygen into your body and <br \/>will improve your ability to think clearly, helping you <br \/>to better cope with the situation at hand.  With a clear <br \/>mind and a relaxed body, you will be able to quickly and <br \/>easily deal with that overwhelming feeling of stress.<\/p>\n<p>-Change your perspective.<br \/>Sometimes we are our own worst enemy.  And sometimes we <br \/>create our own stress!  Negative thinking is the most <br \/>obvious way we do this.  Changing your perspective can <br \/>work well with the breathing exercises described above.  <br \/>For instance, pick a phrase such as, \u201cI can handle this.\u201d  <br \/>Try looking at your situation from a positive perspective.  <br \/>Think, \u201cWhat is the worst that can happen?\u201d realizing that <br \/>anything less than that is something you can cope with!  <br \/>Then watch your stress level immediately lessen.<\/p>\n<p>I will be sending part two tomorrow.
