{"id":5533,"date":"2007-06-24T07:46:00","date_gmt":"2007-06-24T11:46:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bipolarsupporter.com\/bipolarsupporterblog\/dealing-with-bipolar-supporter-stress-one-solution\/"},"modified":"2007-06-24T07:46:00","modified_gmt":"2007-06-24T11:46:00","slug":"dealing-with-bipolar-supporter-stress-one-solution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.bipolarsupporter.com\/bipolarsupporterblog\/dealing-with-bipolar-supporter-stress-one-solution\/","title":{"rendered":"Dealing with bipolar supporter stress one solution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi,<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday I wrote you and told you I would <br \/>share one strategy to help you deal<br \/>with stress from supporting someone <br \/>with bipolar disorder.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s really simple and you might find<br \/>it too simple. <\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s get away and take a walk. I find<br \/>this probably one of the biggest stress<br \/>reducing things that I can do for myself.<\/p>\n<p>I actually walk generally 5 days a week.<br \/>Wednesday, through Sunday. I walk first<br \/>thing in the morning.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes however I will walk off afternoon<br \/>stress so I will have two walking sessions.<\/p>\n<p>Usually the second on is only 15 minutes<br \/>while the first one is 30 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>I also weight train and do intense<br \/>stretching as well. I do this 6 days<br \/>a week. But take a week off every 6 to 7<br \/>weeks. I don&#8217;t want to make this complicated<br \/>for you so here&#8217;s a good plan for you.<\/p>\n<p>NOTE-Before starting any exercise routine,<br \/>always check with a doctor. Also remember<br \/>I am NOT a doctor, therapist, pharmacy<br \/>worker, insurance agent, lawyer or even<br \/>a dog walker. Someone wrote me the other<br \/>day if I walk dogs for a living. I <br \/>don&#8217;t walk dogs \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, if you walk 3 times a week<br \/>or better yet 5 after you get a doctor<br \/>approval, you might want to do it at night.<\/p>\n<p>This way you can walk away a lot of your<br \/>bipolar caregiver stress.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know what it is, but if I am <br \/>having a terrible day, if I just walk<br \/>for like 15 to 30 minutes these things happen:<\/p>\n<p>I feel better<br \/>I come up with solutions to bipolar related problems<br \/>quicker<br \/>I feel like I can be a good supporter<br \/>I am more upbeat<br \/>I don&#8217;t feel so run down<\/p>\n<p>When my mom was REALLY, REALLY sick with her<br \/>bipolar disorder major episode, I wound<br \/>up not going to the gym BUT I continued<br \/>to walk.<\/p>\n<p>It was through walking that I thought<br \/>of many solutions to my mom&#8217;s problems.<\/p>\n<p>Actually it was one day that I was walking<br \/>that I came up with the idea on how<br \/>to find a doctor for my mom and get<br \/>them to contact us instead of us contacting<br \/>them.<\/p>\n<p>They say that walking releases hormones<br \/>or something that causes an increase in<br \/>some part of your brain. Today I will<br \/>not let my mom&#8217;s bipolar disorder episodes<br \/>destroy my health.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway with that said, walking helps to<br \/>make sure you keep your own health in<br \/>check.<\/p>\n<p>Please don&#8217;t take this suggestion lightly.<br \/>Schedule an appointment with your doctor<br \/>to get approval to start walking several<br \/>times a week and see how it start helping<br \/>you cope and deal with your loved one&#8217;s<br \/>bipolar disorder.<\/p>\n<p>I am not kidding, I have taught this to <br \/>many people where I volunteer at and<br \/>they love it.<\/p>\n<p>I KNOW IT&#8217;S SIMPLE but some times<br \/>the simple things are the most powerful.<\/p>\n<p>I have to head to the gym speaking of walking<br \/>see you tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>Your Friend,<\/p>\n<p>Dave<\/p>\n<p>P.S.
