How’s it going?<\/p>\n
Boy I have a lot of things to
do today. I feel like I say
that every day \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
Yesterday I received a phone call
from a friend of mine. This friend’s
brother has bipolar disorder. Over
the years, he has had all kinds of problems
with not only bipolar disorder and also
addictions.<\/p>\n
Anyway he didn’t go to a doctor
regularly and didn’t take his
medication consistently.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately he did a ton of things
wrong which I will sum up her:<\/p>\n
Went to multiple doctors over the years
for really no apparent reason
DO> As a result, each doctor had to start
over from scratch to learn about him. This
made treatment a nightmare.<\/p>\n
Didn’t see any doctor regularly
DO> In addition to having a whole bunch of
doctors over a whole bunch of years, he didn’t
see the one he was suppose to regularly or
when he was suppose to and as a result side
effects from the medication where never reduced
to a minimum<\/p>\n
-He stopped taking his medications so many
times I lost count.
DO>When you have stuff working well, or even
kind of well, I am told by experts that when
you stop it, it’s bad and it takes a lot to
get back on track. (I know this is an over
simplification but I am sure you know what
I am talking about)<\/p>\n
-He doesn’t have a knowledgeable support
team. His family thinks the know about
bipolar but they really know little to
nothing.
DO> His family winds up agreeing with
many bad decisions he makes like: changing
doctors frequently; not taking his medication
consistently; not having a job, etc.<\/p>\n
Last night my friend was telling
me how all his brothers problems in
life were caused by his medications for
bipolar disorder.<\/p>\n
It’s odd how many people work. Many people
want something other than themselves to assign
blame too.<\/p>\n
I see this all the time in business consulting
which I do. I see company owners who want
to blame bad decisions on everyone other
than themselves. They will look for anyone
anywhere to blame.<\/p>\n
The only owners who do well are the ones
who accept blame themselves and personal
responsibility and move forward. The ones
that say, “Man, I really messed up, I take
responsibly for what I did and now we
are going to move forward. I am not going
to do that or make that mistake again. Thanks
for pointing that out to me.”<\/p>\n
As a business consultant it’s rare that
ever happens. <\/p>\n
It’s normally deny, deny, deny, assign
blame to someone else in the company.<\/p>\n

I was totally shocked. I asked my friend My friend said, “well because he looks The crazy thing is, it’s been like 10 days. It’s just amazing.<\/p>\n I listened and listened and didn’t say My head hurt so much from hearing all this “When a person stops taking medication, I explained what the bipolar doomsday scenario I went on to say, “I am not going to My friend said, “okay.”<\/p>\n In my head I was just amazed thinking “how Then I got up this morning and remembered I just don’t know what to say.<\/p>\n It really makes my head hurt. I realize It’s a sad fact that in a few months, I’ll Finally, I want to say the following, -You talk to you doctor<\/p>\n -You are monitored closely by your doctor -You have at least one supporter who has IMPORTANT NOTE<\/p>\n -If you feel like getting off your medication, -If you have side effects with your medications -Find a good doctor you like and trust.<\/p>\n You know what? The older I get, the less I like As a result, people get mad when they don’t Someone made a comment about the fact that I asked Pascale (who is a tell it like it is I guess she is right. it was the medications that were the problem
not the numerous bad decisions made over
the year, that I didn’t even wind up
trying to explain how what he was saying
made absolutely positively no sense.<\/p>\n
to me. He said his brother stopped taking
his medication and the family saw he was better
and that he had outgrown bipolar disorder.<\/p>\n
his decision to not take medication any more.<\/p>\n
continued to take his medication if the family
would have said, “hey, you really need to
take your medication to be stable for the long
term.”<\/p>\n
Now it was his decision but well the family
could have probably pushed him in the right
direction.<\/p>\n
why do you think he outgrew his bipolar?<\/p>\n
good and is doing well since he stopped
taking it.”<\/p>\n
How the heck can you measure success in
10 days?<\/p>\n
much. <\/p>\n
that I said, one final thing:<\/p>\n
I have seen that they do okay for a very
limited period of time and then incrementally
get worse and worse and worse. Those around
will not notice because they adjust to
the worse behavior. Eventually that person
has a complete breakdown which can turn
into what I call is the bipolar doomsday
scenario which can absolutely destroy a family.”<\/p>\n

that this EXACT SAME THING happened about
7 years ago and my friend’s brother went
off his medication and then was doing
okay and went into super episode and randomly
got married and then divorced. It took him
years to kind of recover.<\/p>\n
I can’t save every single person in the world.
I wish I could but I don’t have enough time
and money. I guess all I can do is just keep
doing what I am doing and help those that
want to be helped.<\/p>\n
probably be writing you about how my friends
brother went into a huge bipolar episode. It’s
sad but true. I have found in 100% of the cases,
this is what will happen.<\/p>\n
NEVER EVER get off your medication unless:<\/p>\n
without medication, reporting what’s going
on via fax, phone, email, etc.<\/p>\n
medical releases signed so he\/she can
tell a doctor and therapist how you are
doing<\/p>\n
ask yourself why. Then talk to your therapist
and doctor about your feelings<\/p>\n
and can’t stand them, talk to your doctor. He\/she
can modify your medication but can’t do so
if you don’t talk to them.<\/p>\n
to explain to people the error of their ways.
What do I mean? Well I am a “tell it like it is
person.” That’s gotten me in a whole lot of
trouble for many years. Many people really want
to hear what they want to hear. <\/p>\n
hear what they want to hear. My friend is one of
those people. He will get mad if you disagree
with him and that’s why I didn’t “get into it”
about his brother.<\/p>\n
I seem to be harsh with telling the story
about my mom and her bipolar disorder. That
I am hard on my brother, my dad or myself.
I am not harsh I just tell it like it happened.<\/p>\n

you have over 100,000 people on your list,
someone is going to be mad at you for something
every day. Actually probably hundreds of people
at the same time. You can’t please everyone.”<\/p>\n
tell the real story and not sugar coat it.
It would be easy for me to do. I would simply
say, “My mom had an huge episode, we all did everything
right. Everyone was and is really supportive
and now she is doing great. She never had any
other problems after the first episode and it’s
just totally wonderful and everyone was super helpful.”<\/p>\n
