The doctor, a psychiatrist, <br \/>put him on medication. Finally, I got the <br \/>doctor to change his medication. I could <br \/>see a difference in him almost immediately!!!!<br \/>That was over six months ago! He still has a <br \/>little rage inside, but his &#8220;episodes of anger&#8221; <br \/>don&#8217;t last as long.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When I was reading this, I was excited for<br \/>this person&#8217;s success.<\/p>\n<p>A few thoughts came to mind.<\/p>\n<p>First, I don&#8217;t think most people realize<br \/>how just small medications in a treatment<br \/>plan can make a big impact.<\/p>\n<p>With my mom, just a small change, once<br \/>made all the difference in her moods.<\/p>\n<p>Secondly, I don&#8217;t think bipolar supporters<br \/>realize that someone times the doctor<br \/>may be wrong or thinking that your loved<br \/>one is doing better than they are.<\/p>\n<p>This happens because maybe your loved one<br \/>doesn&#8217;t tell the whole truth nothing but<br \/>the truth when asked, &#8220;how are you doing?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Also, with the fact that most times, doctors<br \/>don&#8217;t see what is really going on with your<br \/>loved one.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not their fault it&#8217;s just &#8220;the deal.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, it&#8217;s the bipolar supporter&#8217;s job<br \/>to help the doctor treat a loved one in<br \/>the best possible way.<\/p>\n<p>Even though my mom has a great doctor,<br \/>there have been two occasions in the last<br \/>3 years that I had to step in and persuade<br \/>my mom&#8217;s doctor that treatment had to be<br \/>changed.<\/p>\n<p>In my courses\/systems I have lots of<br \/>worksheets and checklists about<br \/>helping yourself with bipolar disorder<br \/>or helping a loved one when you are<br \/>trying to explain to a doctor that <br \/>the treatment plan may be off.<\/p>\n<p>SUPPORTING AN ADULT WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?<br \/>Visit:<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bipolarsupporter.com\/report11\">http:\/\/www.bipolarsupporter.com\/report11<\/a><\/p>\n<p>SUPPORTING A CHILD\/TEEN WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?<br \/>Visit:<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bipolarparenting.com\">http:\/\/www.bipolarparenting.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>HAVE BIPOLAR DISORDER?<br \/>Visit:<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.survivebipolar.net\">http:\/\/www.survivebipolar.net<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I made these worksheets and checklists<br \/>to be used as a tool to help yourself<br \/>or communicate information accurately<br \/>to a doctor or therapist.<\/p>\n<p>If you feel that your loved one&#8217;s medication<br \/>is not right, you can:<\/p>\n<p>-Fill out the worksheets<\/p>\n<p>-Bring them to the doctor<\/p>\n<p>-Point out what you are seeing including<br \/>days of the week and time<\/p>\n<p>-Explain why you think there<br \/>should be a change.<\/p>\n<p>Build your case that is persuasive<br \/>so the doctor listens. In my courses\/systems,<br \/>I talk about how to do this at length.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s hard to explain it all in a simple<br \/>email but here are some general guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>             WARNING!!!!<\/p>\n<p>Do NOT bring print offs from the internet<br \/>and plant them on a doctors desk or<br \/>fax them to him\/her.<\/p>\n<p>This is super annoying for the doctor and<br \/>winds up making them mad at you. <\/p>\n<p>I hear these stories of people going to<br \/>websites and printing 30 pages off and<br \/>then circling certain spots and then <br \/>throwing it at the doctor and saying, <br \/>&#8220;look at that!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s a good way to make a doctor<br \/>mad.<\/p>\n<p>Also, do NOT expect results too fast AND<br \/>don&#8217;t expect your loved one to have perfect<br \/>moods. NOBODY does. Meaning, if someone<br \/>cuts your loved one off driving, he\/she<br \/>will probably be mad, medication doesn&#8217;t<br \/>fix that. If that were the case, EVERYONE<br \/>in New York and New Jersey would be on medication<br \/>because everyone is mad about &#8220;stuff&#8221; <br \/>once a day in the northeast \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>So be reasonable.<\/p>\n<p>I have to run, catch you tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>Your Friend,<\/p>\n<p>Dave<\/p>\n<p>P.S.
