{"id":5230,"date":"2008-04-02T09:44:00","date_gmt":"2008-04-02T13:44:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bipolarsupporter.com\/bipolarsupporterblog\/ever-have-this-happen-with-a-doctor-for-bipolar-disorder\/"},"modified":"2008-04-02T09:44:00","modified_gmt":"2008-04-02T13:44:00","slug":"ever-have-this-happen-with-a-doctor-for-bipolar-disorder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.bipolarsupporter.com\/bipolarsupporterblog\/ever-have-this-happen-with-a-doctor-for-bipolar-disorder\/","title":{"rendered":"Ever have this happen with a doctor for bipolar disorder?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi,<\/p>\n<p>Did you know that good bipolar<br \/>doctors can turn bad?<\/p>\n<p>And did you know that it could be<br \/>your fault?<\/p>\n<p>Now, I&#8217;m talking to both survivors<br \/>and supporters here.<\/p>\n<p>In my courses and systems, I talk<br \/>extensively about this subject, and<br \/>even teach you about the system I<br \/>developed about how to find a good<br \/>doctor:<\/p>\n<p>SUPPORTING AN ADULT WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?<br \/>Visit:<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bipolarsupporter.com\/report11\">http:\/\/www.bipolarsupporter.com\/report11<\/a><\/p>\n<p>SUPPORTING A CHILD\/TEEN WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?<br \/>Visit:<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bipolarparenting.com\">http:\/\/www.bipolarparenting.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>HAVE BIPOLAR DISORDER?<br \/>Visit:<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.survivebipolar.net\">http:\/\/www.survivebipolar.net<\/a><\/p>\n<p>But this is something that really can<br \/>happen, and you don&#8217;t want it to \u2013<br \/>that your good doctor would turn into<br \/>a bad one.<\/p>\n<p>The way it could be your fault is that<br \/>your doctor only has so much time to<br \/>see you, so it&#8217;s during that time that<br \/>you have to get all your &#8220;business&#8221;<br \/>with him done.<\/p>\n<p>So if you &#8220;waste&#8221; his time by doing<br \/>things like lying to him, or not<br \/>keeping him informed with what&#8217;s<br \/>happening with you (and your<br \/>medications), if you hide your<br \/>symptoms or just don&#8217;t tell him<br \/>about them\u2026 well, then, he is<br \/>just not going to be able to help<br \/>you now, is he?<\/p>\n<p>And is that going to be his fault<br \/>or yours?<\/p>\n<p>You might have the best doctor<br \/>in the world, but if you feed him<br \/>bad information, or no information,<br \/>he is going to be a bad doctor<br \/>when it comes to you.<\/p>\n<p>It is YOUR responsibility to do<br \/>all the things I listed above: to<br \/>tell him the truth, to keep him <br \/>informed about everything, <br \/>including your symptoms, side<br \/>effects from medications, and<br \/>anything else that has to do with<br \/>your medications, etc.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also important that the<br \/>supporter tells the doctor <br \/>anything they have noticed in<br \/>their loved one, too, in case the<br \/>person hasn&#8217;t noticed it in <br \/>himself.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not saying that the survivor<br \/>is lying here, I&#8217;m just saying that<br \/>his memory and his supporter&#8217;s <br \/>memory may be different, and<br \/>his supporter can HELP him by<br \/>&#8220;putting her two cents in.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Your doctor, no matter how good<br \/>he is, is still not a mind-reader.<br \/>He only knows what YOU tell<br \/>Him.  That&#8217;s the only way he can<br \/>help you.
