It&#8217;s so annoying.<\/p>\n<p>I was super mad about it. I don&#8217;t have<br \/>a car and my friend wasn&#8217;t around. I was in<br \/>the hotel in the morning and I discovered<br \/>this. <\/p>\n<p>I randomly decided to call someone who<br \/>has actually a whole bunch of disorders.<br \/>This person is super high functioning.<\/p>\n<p>I was going on and going about how<br \/>I was super mad. The person listened<br \/>and said, &#8220;Hey Dave, we really should<br \/>go over the stuff and anyway, is <br \/>not having any socks the end of the<br \/>world? It could be worse.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I was like, &#8220;Hey, you&#8217;re right.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Then the person was like, &#8220;hey,<br \/>why the heck would people be looking<br \/>at your feet anyway.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I was like, &#8220;Hey, you&#8217;re right. Only<br \/>like a weirdo looks at people&#8217;s feet&#8221; <br \/>LOL<\/p>\n<p>Okay so in my hotel. Which is suppose<br \/>to be a new one. I almost lost my arm<br \/>in the elevator trying to hold the door.<\/p>\n<p>My key didn&#8217;t work to use the elevator<br \/>multiple times. My key didn&#8217;t work<br \/>to open my door many times.<\/p>\n<p>The water to take a shower was cold<br \/>yesterday. FREEZING cold. I started <br \/>to put soap on me and then it went<br \/>cold. I was stuck. I had half my<br \/>body with soap and the other half with<br \/>no soap. I couldn&#8217;t call anyway.<\/p>\n<p>I just had to deal with a freezing<br \/>cold shower which was total shock.<\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t believe the hotel that was<br \/>suppose to be new had all these problems.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and I forgot my lap top charger<br \/>at home as well. I ordered a new one<br \/>that was suppose to be sent one day.<br \/>Well they screwed up and sent it 4 day.<\/p>\n<p>Geeze. It&#8217;s been a pain of a trip.<\/p>\n<p>Oh I actually met with one of my subscribers<br \/>from San Diego California. That was really<br \/>cool. We had a fun.<\/p>\n<p>Okay enough with the stories let&#8217;s get to<br \/>the topic at hand today.<\/p>\n<p>Today I want to talk about the <\/p>\n<p>10 Rules for Emotional Health<\/p>\n<p>I know, I hate rules too, but I think<br \/>this list is really important for your<br \/>emotional health, whether you are<br \/>the one with bipolar disorder or the<br \/>supporter.<\/p>\n<p>1. Take care of yourself.<br \/>If you are a survivor, you have<br \/>to take care of yourself in order<br \/>to manage your disorder.  Get<br \/>the right amount of sleep, eat<br \/>a healthy diet, and exercise,<br \/>are just a few examples.  Same<br \/>goes for you supporters.  You<br \/>can&#8217;t be any good to someone<br \/>else if you aren&#8217;t good to<br \/>yourself first.<\/p>\n<p>2. Focus on the positive instead<br \/>of the negative.<br \/>Survivors, if you stay negative,<br \/>you will stay sick.  Supporters,<br \/>if you stay negative, you will be<br \/>no good to your loved one, and<br \/>you will be no good to yourself.<br \/>You need to be a more positive<br \/>person, in order to stay emotionally<br \/>healthy.  You need to take every<br \/>negative thought and turn it into<br \/>a positive one.<\/p>\n<p>3. Let go of the past.<br \/>Yes, I know this is easier said than<br \/>done.  Supporters, I know you&#8217;re<br \/>probably saying to me, &#8220;But you<br \/>don&#8217;t know what he\/she has done<br \/>to me!&#8221;  But remember, I am a<br \/>supporter, too!  There&#8217;s plenty<br \/>of hurt and other negative feelings<br \/>I went through with my mother.<br \/>I just had to learn to let go of it,<br \/>or I would still be suffering from<br \/>those horrible memories, and<br \/>still be lost in the past, instead of<br \/>living a good present like I am.<br \/>I had to make a decision to <br \/>forgive my mother, as you need<br \/>to make a decision to forgive your<br \/>loved one now.  If you don&#8217;t, you<br \/>will keep that resentment, and<br \/>both of you will suffer.<\/p>\n<p>4. Be respectful and responsible.<br \/>This is more for survivors.  You need<br \/>to own up to what you&#8217;ve done and<br \/>said in your episodes, even if you<br \/>don&#8217;t remember.  Your loved one<br \/>has remembered everything you&#8217;ve<br \/>said and done, and is probably<br \/>still feeling hurt and resentful<br \/>about it, so you have to be<br \/>respectful and responsible and<br \/>do the right thing, and make up<br \/>to them for it.<\/p>\n<p>5. Have an attitude of gratitude.<br \/>Supporters, living in the world of<br \/>bipolar disorder can get to you<br \/>sometimes \u2013 you can get to feeling<br \/>like it&#8217;s all that&#8217;s in your life.  But<br \/>it doesn&#8217;t have to be.  Trade all<br \/>the negatives of the disorder and<br \/>what it has done to your loved one<br \/>and your lives, and develop an<br \/>attitude of gratitude instead.  Be<br \/>grateful for every day that your<br \/>loved one goes without an episode<br \/>and make the most of those days.<br \/>Be grateful for the smaller things<br \/>as well.<\/p>\n<p>In my courses\/systems, I talk about having<br \/>A positive attitude and how just changing<br \/>yourself from a negative person to a positive<br \/>person can change your recovery as well as<br \/>your life:<\/p>\n<p>SUPPORTING AN ADULT WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?<br \/>Visit:<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bipolarsupporter.com\/report11\">http:\/\/www.bipolarsupporter.com\/report11<\/a><\/p>\n<p>SUPPORTING A CHILD\/TEEN WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?<br \/>Visit:<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bipolarparenting.com\">http:\/\/www.bipolarparenting.com<br \/><\/a><br \/>HAVE BIPOLAR DISORDER?<br \/>Visit:<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.survivebipolar.net\">http:\/\/www.survivebipolar.net<\/a><\/p>\n<p>6. Develop one or two friendships outside<br \/>the one you have with your loved one.<br \/>This goes for both of you.  Go to a support<br \/>group meeting.  Meet new people.  Get<br \/>out from the bipolar disorder that tends<br \/>to overwhelm your life and isolate you.<br \/>You need to have other relationships<br \/>outside of just your own.  You need to<br \/>learn to talk about other things besides<br \/>bipolar disorder.<\/p>\n<p>7. Have some fun!<br \/>People who don&#8217;t have fun in their lives,<br \/>especially people who have bipolar<br \/>disorder, tend to become more depressed.<br \/>This doesn&#8217;t  have to be expensive, but<br \/>just something that keeps your spirits<br \/>high.  I know a couple who have &#8220;Date<br \/>Night&#8221; every Friday night, and sometimes<br \/>all they do is go to the local mall and<br \/>have a cheap dinner at the food court<br \/>and watch the people!  To them, this is<br \/>fun.  Other times, they just rent a<br \/>movie, put covers on the floor,<br \/>pop some popcorn, and snuggle<br \/>together to watch the movie.  And<br \/>both of them have bipolar disorder,<br \/>by the way!<\/p>\n<p>8. Remove yourself from hurtful or <br \/>damaging (negative) situations.<br \/>For survivors, there are many situations<br \/>that are negative, stressful, over-<br \/>exciting\/stimulating, and can trigger <br \/>an episode for you.  These are <br \/>situations that you need to avoid.<br \/>If you find yourself in one of these<br \/>situations, you need to get out of<br \/>them right away.<\/p>\n<p>9. Accept that life is all about choices.<br \/>Some choices are good, and some are<br \/>bad.  But they are YOUR choices.  You<br \/>need to learn to make good choices.<br \/>The more good choices you make, the<br \/>more emotionally healthy you will be,<br \/>and the happier in the long run.  If <br \/>you make bad choices, there will<br \/>always be consequences to pay,<br \/>and you don&#8217;t want that.<\/p>\n<p>10. The future is up to YOU!<br \/>Have a plan for the future.<br \/>Unfortunately, no one knows when<br \/>your next episode will occur, <br \/>although I have tried to teach you<br \/>how to avoid episodes, how to<br \/>watch for triggers, and how to<br \/>manage your bipolar disorder.<br \/>However, I have also told you<br \/>that you most likely will have<br \/>another episode.   That&#8217;s why<br \/>I always tell you to have a safety<br \/>plan in place for the next episode.<br \/>you can make short term plans<br \/>and long term plans for your<br \/>future, and you should make<br \/>plans just for yourselves that<br \/>have nothing to do with bipolar<br \/>disorder.
