This can be to your doctor <br \/>who handles your bipolar disorder,<br \/>your family physician, or really it can<br \/>apply to any doctor you see.<\/p>\n<p>For supporters, this can apply to you<br \/>as well.<\/p>\n<p>First of all, you need to ask yourself,<br \/>does your doctor really know you?<\/p>\n<p>How much have you really told him<br \/>or her about yourself and your <br \/>disorder, your life, and how it&#8217;s<br \/>affecting you and your family?<\/p>\n<p>Many people aren&#8217;t really that<br \/>comfortable talking with their doctors<br \/>because sharing personal health or<br \/>psychiatric information makes them<br \/>feel vulnerable, intimated, or<br \/>embarrassed (or all three).  But this<br \/>can only hurt you in the long run.<\/p>\n<p>Rosemary Browne, M.D.,  is asst.<br \/>professor of clinical medicine at the<br \/>University of Arizona, Tucson.  She<br \/>says, &#8220;As physicians, we are here to<br \/>provide help in any way we can, so<br \/>we need to know what&#8217;s on your <br \/>mind, but  we can&#8217;t read your mind.<br \/>The more forthright and direct you are,<br \/>the more we can help.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>See?  She gives the doctor&#8217;s point of<br \/>view.  They can&#8217;t help you if you<br \/>don&#8217;t SPEAK UP!!!<\/p>\n<p>One thing I teach in my courses\/<br \/>systems is, if you don&#8217;t feel<br \/>comfortable with your doctor, maybe<br \/>you should find another doctor.
