I hope you’re having a really great day!<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I am actually up in New Hampshire today at that meeting. It took literary all day to get here.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

So far, I learned several things that are going to help me help more people dealing with bipolar disorder.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I have been coughing like crazy because of this cold that I have. Thanks to everyone who sent me feel better soon messages.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Okay, before I came up here, I had to have an outline of what I wanted to go over and talk about.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Remember in school, how you had to write outlines for everything?<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Well, imagine having to write an outline for your life.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I.<\/span> <\/span>Have a childhood<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

II.<\/span> <\/span>Go to grammar school<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

III.<\/span> <\/span>Go to middle school<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

IV.<\/span> <\/span>Graduate high school<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

V.<\/span> <\/span>Go to college (maybe)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

VI.<\/span> <\/span>Get a job<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

VII.<\/span>H<\/span>ave a career<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

VIII.<\/span>Get married<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

IX.<\/span> <\/span>Buy a house<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

X.<\/span> <\/span>Have children<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

XI.<\/span> <\/span>Have grandchildren<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

XII.<\/span><\/span>Get old<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Well, you get the picture. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Have you noticed something in the outline? <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Never in the outline does it include becoming the supporter to a loved one with bipolar disorder!<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Did you ever expect that? <\/span>NO.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I didn’t either.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

But it happened.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Nobody can predict their life as simply as an outline. <\/span><\/span>Life just doesn’t happen that way. <\/span>There are unpredictable twists and turns along the way.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What if your job\/career doesn’t turn out the way you expected it to, and you had to change careers in mid-stream?<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What if you ended up getting divorced?<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What if one of your children’s lives didn’t work out as planned and they had to move back in with you?<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What if one of your children moved away and you never got to see your grandchildren?<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

See? <\/span>Life doesn’t work out like an outline.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Especially when you’re dealing with bipolar disorder.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Think back to your loved one’s last episode. <\/span>It was probably a surprise to you.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

You try to do the best you can to know the signs and symptoms of bipolar disorder. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

You try to know your loved one’s triggers. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

You try to know the warning signs of their impending episodes. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

But you still can’t predict how\/when they’ll have that episode.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It’s certainly not on your outline, is it?<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

All you can do is your best.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Nobody expects a supporter to be perfect.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

So don’t expect yourself to be perfect.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Just do the best you can.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
