Hey, guess what? I went to the movies last night and saw SAW 5.\u00a0 <\/span>I told Michele who works for me to tell her husband that I saw Saw 5 and she said, “You saw 5 what?” lol<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

She didn’t know it was a movie.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I am going to write an email about the important bipolar lesson you should learn from the theme of a movie like Saw. <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

You probably think I am out of my mind if you know what saw is. BUT, there is a valuable lesson to be learned and can be applied to bipolar disorder.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Okay, I have to tell you about oil and bipolar disorder.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

They do go together, really!<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I’ll tell you how.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Actually, one of my ex-girlfriends never changed her oil. <\/span>She was “daddy’s girl.” <\/span>If daddy didn’t change the oil, she didn’t bother.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

NOTE: <\/span>If she is reading this (and I doubt it), she is going to be super mad at me for posting this but I didn’t use her name so no harm done.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Anyway, she blew up many a car. <\/span>Transmissions, engines, and a lot of other things got ruined, all because she wouldn’t put oil in her cars.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The longer she had cars, the worse they got.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Why?<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Because she never took care of them.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Are cars supposed to totally break down at 30,000 miles? <\/span>Of course not.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

But they do if you do NOTHING to maintain and take care of them.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This is similar to bipolar disorder. <\/span>You have to manage and take care of it.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Some people think it gets worse with age.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Well, just like my ex-girlfriend and her car, of course if you do nothing to manage it, of course it will get worse. <\/span>But it doesn’t have to be that way.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

If you’re smart, or if you have a loved one with bipolar disorder and you love them, you’ll work harder to put systems in place to keep their bipolar disorder maintained.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

If my ex-girlfriend had just kept oil in her cars, they wouldn’t have gotten ruined.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

If your loved one has systems in place, they will stay stable.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For example, to maintain a car, you check the oil, you get regular tune-ups, get the engine checked when necessary, get the tires rotated, etc., don’t you? <\/span><\/span>I mean, you want it to last as long as it can, right?<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Well, it’s like with bipolar disorder. <\/span>You have to have a system, too.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

You have to take medication daily, see the psychiatrist and therapist regularly, see the doctor when necessary, have bloodwork checked, stick to a healthy diet, exercise, get the right amount of sleep, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

You need a system to keep your bipolar disorder in order, just like you do with your car \u2013 if you want to keep your stability. <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Your stability is much more important than your car.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

So if you have parts in your car that need regular maintenance and you take care of those, you should be willing to take care of the parts in your treatment plan for your bipolar disorder that need regular maintenance as well, because they are even more important.<\/span><\/p>\n
