Creative Ways to Cope"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi,<\/p>\n<p>How&#8217;s it going?<\/p>\n<p>I have had a bunch of problems recently.  It&#8217;s hard saying on top of this organization that is growing really fast.<\/p>\n<p>Everybody has problems however.<\/p>\n<p>Some people see their problems as big ones, and some see them as small ones.<\/p>\n<p>Some people see problems as an everyday thing we just need to deal with.<\/p>\n<p>I heard a negative person say that problems are &#8220;a reality that ruins my day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yet a positive person said, &#8220;Problems are opportunities in disguise.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Some people just complain about their problems, while other people do something about their problems.<\/p>\n<p>The point is, we all have problems.<\/p>\n<p>We just differ in the way we approach them and in the way we solve them.<\/p>\n<p>Like take bipolar disorder, for example.<\/p>\n<p>People with the disorder tell me their biggest problem is not with taking their medications.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not with going to all their appointments.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not with sleeping right, exercising, or eating a healthy diet.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not even with dealing with the stigma associated with bipolar disorder.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest problem that people with bipolar disorder tell me that they have is coping with having the disorder itself.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes it feels like the disorder has taken over their whole lives.<\/p>\n<p>Even when they&#8217;re not in an episode they live in fear of when the next episode is going to come.<\/p>\n<p>In my courses\/systems, I talk about this, but I also say that if you&#8217;re prepared for it  in advance, you don&#8217;t have to live with this fear.<\/p>\n<p>SUPPORTING AN ADULT WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?<br \/>\nVisit:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bipolarsupporter.com\/report11\">http:\/\/www.bipolarsupporter.com\/report11<\/a><\/p>\n<p>SUPPORTING A CHILD\/TEEN WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER?<br \/>\nVisit:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bipolarparenting.com\">http:\/\/www.bipolarparenting.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>HAVE BIPOLAR DISORDER?<br \/>\nVisit:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.survivebipolar.net\">http:\/\/www.survivebipolar.net<\/a><\/p>\n<p>But I asked some people to give me suggestions on creative ways to cope with bipolar disorder, and here are a few suggestions:<\/p>\n<p>1.\tHave a pet<br \/>\nA dog or cat gives you unconditional<br \/>\nlove.  even just petting them can<br \/>\nsoothe your nerves when you feel<br \/>\nstressed out.  And they&#8217;re always<br \/>\nso happy to see you when you get<br \/>\nhome (whether you&#8217;ve been gone<br \/>\n5 days or only 5 minutes!).  How<br \/>\ncan you be depressed when you&#8217;ve<br \/>\ngot a pet?<\/p>\n<p>2.\tCrossword Puzzles<br \/>\nDoing Crossword Puzzles or<br \/>\nWord Find Puzzles help you to<br \/>\nfocus and keep those distracting<br \/>\nthoughts to a minimum.  You also<br \/>\nfeel a sense of accomplishment<br \/>\nwhen you&#8217;ve finished one.  It&#8217;s<br \/>\nbest to do the easy ones (at least<br \/>\nat first) so you don&#8217;t feel<br \/>\noverwhelmed or get too<br \/>\nfrustrated, which would be<br \/>\ndefeating the purpose.  Be<br \/>\ncareful, though, because these<br \/>\ncan be addicting!<\/p>\n<p>3.\tColoring<br \/>\nI know this sounds like &#8220;baby<br \/>\nstuff&#8221; and yes, this is the same<br \/>\ncoloring we did as kids, but many<br \/>\npeople with bipolar disorder<br \/>\nhave found coloring to be very<br \/>\ntherapeutic.  It keeps stress<br \/>\nlevels to a minimum, helps you<br \/>\nfocus and concentrate, and brings<br \/>\nout your creativity at the same<br \/>\ntime.<\/p>\n<p>4.\tDoing Puzzles<br \/>\nThis is very good for focus and<br \/>\nconcentration for people with<br \/>\nracing thoughts.  You may want<br \/>\nto start with a fewer piece puzzle<br \/>\nat first, however, so that you don&#8217;t<br \/>\nget frustrated or overwhelmed.<br \/>\nRemember to work the outside<br \/>\npieces first (and the corners)!<\/p>\n<p>5.\tMusic or Art<br \/>\nIf you have talent in either of<br \/>\nthese two areas (or even if<br \/>\nyou don&#8217;t!), many people have<br \/>\nfound it to be helpful to them<br \/>\nto do this &#8211; if for nothing else<br \/>\nthan just to keep their fingers<br \/>\nbusy.
