Hi,<\/p>\n

How’s it going today?<\/p>\n

You know, I got lucky.<\/p>\n

I’ll tell you how.<\/p>\n

I have a laptop computer, but I didn’t have the best back up in the world with my laptop.<\/p>\n

Then my computer stopped working.<\/p>\n

I was in trouble.<\/p>\n

Luckily I was able to back the computer up before it crashed. Next time I might not be so lucky. (Shame on me.)<\/p>\n

In the computer world, it’s called having a back up system.<\/p>\n

In the “real” world, it’s called “Plan A” and “Plan B.”<\/p>\n

Whichever way you want to look at it, you need back up plans, systems, and strategies for what you do.<\/p>\n

HAVE BIPOLAR DISORDER?

\nIf you use plans, systems, and strategies with managing your bipolar disorder, you still always have to have a “Plan B.”<\/p>\n

With bipolar disorder, anyone can go into an episode at any time, so you need to be prepared.<\/p>\n

What should your supporters do?<\/p>\n

Do you have a medical release for your supporters?<\/p>\n

Have financial systems?<\/p>\n

What happens if you lose your medical insurance?<\/p>\n

Etc.<\/p>\n

Don’t think it can’t happen to you, because it can.<\/p>\n

And has happened to others with bipolar disorder and their supporters.<\/p>\n

Those that had a Plan B did well.<\/p>\n

Those that didn’t, had problems.<\/p>\n

For example, scroll down to hear Norma’s story:<\/p>\n

George and Norma were married. They didn’t have any money problems, so George had no reason to think that there would be any problem (thus, no Plan B).<\/p>\n

But Norma did have bipolar disorder, and one day she went into a bipolar manic episode.<\/p>\n

She went on an excessive spending spree, giving no thought to the consequences.<\/p>\n

Norma cleaned out their checking account, and maxed out all their credit cards.<\/p>\n

Now, if they’d had a Plan B, it might have gone something like this: (Scroll down)<\/p>\n

Financial Plan for George and Norma:<\/p>\n

1.\tHave George hold onto the
\ncheckbook.<\/p>\n

2.\tDon’t let Norma hold any of the
\ncredit cards.<\/p>\n

3.\tLimit the amount of credit cards
\nthat George holds down to only
\n1 (or 2 at most), only for emergencies.<\/p>\n

4.\tLimit the amount of cash that Norma
\nhas access to.<\/p>\n

Many people with bipolar disorder and their supporters have learned to follow this financial plan and have become very successful with it.<\/p>\n
