Actually yesterday was kind of funny. I was debating with a therapist at 11:30pm whether or not bipolar disorder was real or not.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Over the next few days, I will tell you exactly what happen and was said. It’s very instructive.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Anyway, I have a friend that says to me yesterday “my sister is doing great. Isn’t on any medication.”<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In my mind I am saying, “here we go again.”<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Why? Well every time the sister gets off her medication I heard one week she is doing great and then all of a sudden disaster strikes.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It’s amazing how my friend doesn’t even recognize this pattern and goes along with the thinking of “she’ s doing great and she isn’t on medication.”<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I was thinking about what makes the difference between someone who has a total disaster of a life with bipolar disorder and someone who doesn’t.<\/span><\/p>\n

I wanted to tell you about a person who works for me. <\/span>Her name is Michele. <\/span>Now, Michele wasn’t always the stable person with bipolar disorder that she is now.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Michele USED to be:<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

-A drug addict and alcoholic<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

-A terrible mother<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

-Married 5 times<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

-Couldn’t get any c.redit<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

-Had EVERY car repossessed<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

-Was evicted from her house<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

-Was homeless<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

-Couldn’t have a checking account<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

-Couldn’t have a savings account<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

-Maxed out ALL her c.redit cards<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

– Had creditors calling all the time <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>(until her phone was cut off)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>– Attempted suicide 7 or so times.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

-Went from bipolar episode to bipolar<\/span><\/p>\n

episode with no medication<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>-Never could hold a job more than 6 months<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

TODAY she is:<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Happily married<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Restored her broken relationships with<\/span><\/p>\n

her family<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Off drugs and alcohol <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Has good relationship with her children<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Has good car<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Has beautiful home<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Has checking account<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Pays all her bills every month<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Bipolar is stable and she is on medication<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Has great job (working for me)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Has a c.redit card<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Has worked in the same place for more than 3 years (she works for me)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span> <\/span><\/span>No suicide attempts<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Michele actually even has a c.redit card from my company to make business purchases.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What makes the difference?<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The difference is having a plan. <\/span>A system.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I always talk about this. <\/span>But how do you explain about someone who suffered so much over so many years who now is married for awhile, stable, good with money, etc.?<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

You heard that bipolar disorder gets worse with age, right?<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Then why is it that so many people with the disorder who work for me, it has actually gotten BETTER with age?<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It’s because they have a plan. <\/span>They have systems in place.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Just because you’ve got bipolar disorder doesn’t mean you have to stay at home all the time and hide under your covers letting your supporter do everything for you!<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

These people who work for me have proven that. And Michele has proven that! <\/span>Look where she came from, and look where she is today! <\/span>Because she has a plan. <\/span>She has a system.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What makes the difference? <\/span>I think it is having that plan and that system. <\/span>Even if you don’t have bipolar disorder, you can still have a plan and a system. <\/span>It will set you apart.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

You will get more things done. <\/span>You will be more productive. <\/span>You will not panic when other people do. <\/span>You will have less stress. <\/span>You will have more money. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

See what I mean?<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

That’s what makes the difference.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It’s really amazing. I must say as I put the list together of all old Michele even I was stunned. It’s amazing the way she\u00a0 USE to be. It’s hard to believe. I wouldn’t believe it unless I interviewed her mom and husband who confirmed what the old Michele was like.<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s really amazing.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s not just her there are many others I know like this. They are success stories. It’s possible. NO MATTER WHAT YOU OR YOUR LOVED ONE’S SITUATION IS.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some say that I am giving too much hope to those who are hopeless. Do you know this is one of the biggest criticisms about me? I have therapists and doctors that have warned me not to have too high hopes for “those people.” Those people meaning those with a mental illness.<\/span><\/p>\n

I have been told not to expect too much because they <\/span>can’t do well in life. It’s that strange. Well I don’t think this way and I really think that people who do are losers. <\/span><\/p>\n
